surprisingly Surgical procedures of a cosmetic nature can significantly increase a subject's mental well being. I can't recall the exact details of the study which reported this finding, but I read it not too long ago. I am scientist and can effectively evaluate this type of research, if that carries any weight with you. Of course, no two families or people are exactly the same and there may be a whole host of other factors pertinant to your situation.

Gaviotas I remember reading that Gaviotas was still doing well and was equally respected by both guerilla and paras for their unquestioning and humane treatment of the wounded from either side.

I also read that b/c of the conflict, they are not currently accepting international visitors.

I think the guy who set up gaviotas is currently working with other countries to duplicate this effort. You might want to investigate that! Good luck!

sure I agree, everything does have it's cost. And in this case it's usually worth it, because they are so passionate, beautiful, classy, etc... There are so many people, though, always talking about how perfect and wonderful colombian girls are without addressing the negatives that, I thought I'd play devil's advocate. Granted the concerns I voiced were stumbling blocks for me as well as cultural differences. I'll watch out for those goldiggers when I get to Medellin! ;-)

colombianas I'm an American guy in his late 20's who has some experience with Colombian women. They are both beautiful and approachable. Whereas a woman from the States will often castigate you for overt licentious behavior, not so with the colombiana. Not only will many swoon to your advances, but dollop heaping loads of attention on you just for acting a confident male, which of course is reinforcing! And if this seems too good to be true then it is, b/c there's a lot of pitfalls to dating a colombiana. In general they are much more possessive and consequently an emotionally higher maintenance breed of woman. Yes, their tenderness and affection has a price, mainly your independence. You might as well just forget about ever hanging out with the guys again by yourself at night!

Perhaps, the biggest disconnect is in sense of humor. Don't be surprised if something you say teasingly is taken seriouslyand responded to with utter contempt and disdain. Thus, a silly comment can spark a passionate fight. In these situations it's always best to firmly stand your ground. As a Latin women will never respect a man who grovels apologetically.

Latinas do not age as gracefully as say Europeans, granted I've met plenty of exceptions to the rule.

Finally, there's the issue of religion. Quite a few take their Catholicism rather seriously. Most Americans I know have a rather vague, indifferent, or ambivalent attitude towards religion (of course I live in New York). For what it's worth those are two of my cents.
