gecho comments on LYRICS!!!

las caleñas son como las flores
que vestidas van de mil colores
ellas ¿tienen? sus amores
cuanto estan correspondidas

Caminando van por las aceras
contoneando llevan sus cinturas
ellas mueven las caderas
como los cañaverales

Chorus

The lyric is almost like this!
Fruko y sus Tesos salsa band, featuring Piper "Pimienta" Diaz

gecho comments on Help me! Need advice on how to deal with f.....g latin NOVELAS, I can't stand it

to lockheed This is the real deal: latin american novellas shows a post-traumatic version of latin Cinderellas based in old mexican soup operas. This is a common for most of them, BUT NOT ALL; moreover, main novellas consumers are mexican a latin people in US. For example, here in Colombia, we had no more than 2 hours of novella per day (only monday to friday), so Latin american people are smarter than you think... it is just a cultural difference.

gecho comments on What are the general things to know about life in Bogota?

more advices As I red in your post, you speak spanish. I hope you read spanish as well.

I hope this could be a good information for you! Good Luck

gecho comments on Being called "Doctor" in Colombia ?

real reason, please take note!!! I´m not an historian, but I know some things...

Because our spanish based teaching structure (school and university) some Diplomas during XIX and part of XX century were written with DOCTOR based in latin word DOCTO, which means "skillful in certain subject", so they were several DOCTOR´s or well-prepared students such as lawyers, philosophers, literature, and all related subject, including medical.
So, for ignorant or low level academic people, they used to say DOCTOR to a university graduated man, most of them (first half of XX century) lawyers who worked to and for goverment (national or local) despite the fact they didn{t had any PhD.
Another version of this "word" its the mexican "Licenciado".

So, in this time, DOCTOR is irregulary used by poor people talking about well necktie dressed men, lawyers or high rank people no matter its academic diploma... and, of course, physicians.

That´s it... It´s just a colombian social phenomena, nothing strange.

Hope this info had cleared your curiosity

gecho comments on buying a emerald wedding ring

advices I recommend you to go to "Hacienda Santa Barbara", and old fashioned but inner modern mall at Bogota (north part), there are several and good jewelry stores. Please, be adviced that the emerald is certified! If you want a REAL GOOD EMERALD, not a simple green-like stone, this should be certified! I Recommend DH Joyeros stores (several emeralds and other stones, several sizes and prices) in that mall.

gecho comments on La Chiva, Colombia’s pride and joy

to modefoque Mr Modefoque, if you felt ashamed is because your ignorance: I´ve been in NY and I could feel the opposite. And I would say to my co-workers YES!! THAT “THING” IT´S A COLOMBIAN PIECE OF PRIDE, BECAUSE THAT “UGLY-TOO-BAD-FASHIONED-OLD-BUS” BROUGHT ECONOMICAL DEVELOPMENT TO SO-FAR TOWNS HIDDEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COLOMBIAN ANDES, TAKING OUT THE BANANAS AND COFFE BEANS FROM THERE TO YOUR GRANDPAS AND DADS MOUTHS IN PAST TIMES…! The “Chiva” is a Colombian ICON, just like the Venecian boats, wild west horses, or Indian elephants.

TAKE YOUR IGNORANCE OUT, MAN!!!

There are fun things to do for a single guy at the "Zona Rosa" in Bogota, there you can find "Palos de Moguer", "Bogota Beer Company and other several pubs, restaurants and party places, or you can go to "parque de la 93", another good place to go to!

gecho comments on Escuelas (Facultades) Medicas
