gbeckler comments on Is Ecuador a better dollar deal over Colombia? I have visited both Colombia and Ecuador. Referring to bickerss comment on the cost of property in Ecuador: I looked at property in Quito, the Cumbaya Valley and Cotacachi. I found a 450-sq-ft apartment for sale in the Gonzalez-Suarez neighborhood (one of the top five neighborhoods in Quito) for $42K. I also found a 1250-sq-ft condo for sale for $42K in Cotacachi and an 1100-sq-ft home for sale for $60K in the same town. All three properties are new. Bickerss, where can you purchase property in the best neighborhoods for $500-600 USD per sq meter? Just curious. By the way, I enjoyed both Colombia and Ecuador equally.

gbeckler comments on We were in Ecuador in March and visited both Quit and Guayaquil. I enjoyed the Malecon, Iguana park and nightlife in Guayaquil but the heat and humidity was oppressive. I enjoyed Quito because the climate was more comfortable.

gbeckler comments on Where are some good places to hang out in Medellin besides Poblado? We visited Medellin in July and stayed in El Poblado. We met a local from the U.S. who ended up being our tour guide. We had a great time. If you would like to get in touch with him you can email me directly at gbeckler at comcast.net. I didn't sense that people were arrogant and unfriendly but we were there only three days. Gary Thanks for the map Tom.

gbeckler comments on Hello i'm new to this forum and Going to Bogota For the 1st Time. I would add these comments: use a moneybelt, put your wallet in your front pocket (you might want to carry a fake wallet with a few dollars), only carry enough cash for your immediate needs, don´t flaunt wealth, be aware of your surroundings, avoid risky neighborhoods. Don´t show a large amount of cash when making purchases. Watch for pickpockets on the Trans Milenio when it is packed (a local advised me to empty my pockets before riding the Trans Mileno during busy times), I was in Bogota all last week on vacation and had a great time with no problems. I believe tips are included in the restaurant bills so you should not tip...maybe another reader could confirm this.

gbeckler comments on Travel Itinerary Prolly? Thank you for your reply. What do you mean by "prolly"? Is the bus service you refer to between Cartagena and Bogota? Is it safe to travel by bus or should we fly? So are Calle 83 and Calle 92 in Zone Rosa?

gbeckler comments on Brief travel guide to Parque Tayrona Nightlife in Medellin the first full week of April I am thinking of vacationing in Medellin the first full week of April but am wondering if it is the best time to go. I’d like to sample the nightlife but have heard that some of the clubs may shut down and many people will go to Cartagena that week to party. Is this correct? How is the nightlife the first full week of April?
