I'm sure plenty of countries like Iraq and Colombia have also disobeyed the Geneva Convention and I'm sure the USA's actions pale in comparison to theirs.

Not according to my caleño friend My caleño friend doesn't agree with you. He says that neither men nor women in Colombia have a tendency to be faithful (he himself has two girlfriends and they don't know about the existence of each other). However, he has a tendency to talk bullshit. For instance, he said that thrifty women don't exist in Colombia, but I found a paisa girl, who I have an interest in, who is thrifty even by my standards. I met her when she and a relative were hitch-hiking, as the bus fare between Rionegro and Medellin city centre was a bit excessive for them. She told me that she doesn't use the metro system in Medellin, as its too expensive for her (about 8000 pesos for 10 journeys if you are a student, which she is).

Yes, I believe Medellin is safe. I also happened to meet a really attractive girl from Bello (very appropriately named in my opinion), a city, which is part of the Medellin conurbation.

There are some areas that I wouldn't visit after dark e.g. Santo Domingo (at the top of the cable car system), but I had absolutely no problems in Medellin (probably because I am 250lbs and 6"3).

Count yourself lucky if your colombiana actually values thrift Colombian girls don't seem to value thrift as much as those in the UK or NZ. I remember a guy I came to know told me that I was miserly on account of the fact that I decided to go to a supermarket rather than a restaurant to get something for lunch. I remember another time when I said to him regarding the hotel receptionist (he works as the security guard in the hotel) "Me alegro que ella no es mi esposa: - me costaria muchisimo" (after she had been yacking on the phone for over 40 minutes) and was greeted by roars of laughter.

However, I consider myself very lucky to have found a beautiful Colombian girl, who also happens to be thrifty. I think 10 journeys on the Medellin Metro cost under 8000 pesos on the student tariff (to which she is entitled). She told me that she mostly refrains from using it on account of the fact that the buses are significantly cheaper. This is thrifty even by my standards.

I am counting myself incredibly lucky, as girls, who are simultaneously thrifty and beautiful are not as common as I would like.

Possibly, no-one will bother you During my 3-week visit to Colombia last December and January, nobody bothered me. It was obvious that I was a foreigner, as I just don't have hispanic facial features. However, it may be that nobody bothered me, as I weigh roughly 205lbs and am 6"3. Who knows?
