Flyinrob13 comments on Strategies for dating "good" Colombianas There are a lot of guys I worked with in Colombia who found the same thing youre looking for. Sometimes you get lucky and find it right away, and sometimes you have to wait a while. I wouldnt get down on a girl though who wanted to go to the US. I met a lot of great women who would like to visit the states, but would never leave Colombia, but I also met some great ladies who would love an opportunity to live in another Country. Hey, I wanted to live and work in another Country, so I understand. I think that youre just a bit paranoid about being with a chick that just wants the blue passport and not you. You should be able to tell.

Flyinrob13 comments on Mens Magazine offends Colombia!! Stuff magazine is published by Dennis publishing, a privately owned company. The owner, Felix Dennis, is one of Britain's best known entrepreneurs. Although the company has one of its headquarters in NYC, its still a British company. Its not an American magazine...USAmerican of course.

Flyinrob13 comments on Flying with Avianca oh my god Yup So I show up to the airport in Bogota, and am told that the flight is full. I have already paid for the ticket. I am then charged to fly the same route the next day. It was their fault, and I still ended up having to pay cause I changed my reservations. I figured that I could fix that problem, and a problem I had going from Santa Marta to Bogota, once I got back to Miami...at least thats what they told me in Bogota and Santa Marta. Wrong. The employees I talked to were nice, but they were unorganized. I am happy that people post these types of problems, cause it might keep other people from flying on that airline. I am starting a job in Bogota this July, and I will be flying on American or Delta down there. Thats a good idea to contest the charges. I will try that next. Currently I am in the process of hacking this out with a lady in Miami. Yay.

Flyinrob13 comments on Where can I buy a motorcycle helmet in Bogogta? Dan Did they renovate the store or move locations? When I went searching for a Harley Dealer there, the store I went to was empty, and they were just putting together the merchandise area in the front, and the shop in the back. Before I left, they had most of the new bikes in the front of the shop to. The store wasnt open yet, but they let me inside so I could get a T shirt, and we talked a while about the new bikes and the cost of Harleys down there. 2o bucks an hour for labor is a great deal. Do you ride down there?

Flyinrob13 comments on Where can I buy a motorcycle helmet in Bogogta? Dan The one in Zona Rosa just opened up last week or so. Ronman said that he went to one in Nov. 04. I had heard that there was another one somewhere in the city.

Flyinrob13 comments on Avianca Advisory My itenerary on Avianca was as follows: Miami to Cartagena...Cartagena to Bogota...Bogota to Miami. While in Miami, I had them change the Cartagena to Bogata leg to Santa Marta to Bogota. I was told that I would pay a difference in fare in Santa Marta. No big deal. Well, the folks in Santa Marta got the itenerary change, but after spending about half an hour talking back and forth, said that they had to charge me the full fare of the ticket, and that I would have to get a reimbursement in Miami. The reason was because they couldnt figure out how they could just charge me the difference. Whatever. Well, while in Bogota trying to get to Miami, I was informed that the plane was full, and I wouldnt be able to go on that flight. They told me that I could pay extra and go stand by to Ft. Lauderdale. I did, and didnt get on the flight. Well, the next day I showed up at the airport to try and get to Miami again, and I had to pay MORE, because I had an itenerary change. I explained that it wasnt my fault, and they stuck to their story. Well, of course, when I got to Miami, I had to work a lot of reimbursement issues. They wouldnt do it over the counter, only over the phone with customer care. Good luck. They were all very friendly though.

Flyinrob13 comments on Sick and tired While in Colombia, both men and women would ask me what I thought about Colombian women, and how they compared to American women. I told them that I thought that Colombian women were great. When comparing them to American women, I replied that there are Colombian women in America. I went on to explain that the US is full of different cultures and types of people, and that its difficult to lump them all into one group. Unless youve been to the US, im sure that its hard to imagine how culturally diverse it is here. I thought that was a pretty good answer to give them. Its also really easy to say in Spanish! Its true, right?

Flyinrob13 comments on Gringos, Colombia, Travel and Women I just got back from my first trip to Colombia a few days ago (im still suffering from withdrawls), and had a great time. I did meet up with some people down there, but also spent time traveling alone. I went to Cartagena (direct flight from Miami), Santa Marta, and Bogota. I travel a lot, but took more precautions in Colombia than I normally would while outside of my own country (USA). The people who worked in the Hotels were very helpful in giving some good advice on where to go and where not to go, as were the cab drivers believe it or not. My advice would be to stay pretty low key, dress nice, dont wear anything really flashy, know some spanish, and check your 6. At night, I stayed in the busy areas of town. I did talk to a girl from Cali who told me that it is a little rougher there than in the places I was visiting, but I cant confirm that. Overall, I felt pretty safe. I do think that your experience would be better if you met up with someone there who was familiar with the areas you want to travel to, because it would be nice to have someone show you around. Just be safe, and remember youre a guest. I have only been to Colombia once as a tourist, so take my advice for what its worth.

Flyinrob13 comments on Great Story Mario I just got back two days ago after spending 3 weeks in Colombia, and loved it. Im glad that you had a great time yourself. Ya gotta tell me what the whole embassy thing was about though. I stayed away from it, but have heard that it is pretty impressive in size. I know what you mean about the cab drivers also. When the people there would ask me if I thought that Colombia was dangerous, I would say "hell ya...these cab drivers are crazy?". That usually got a pretty good laugh.

Flyinrob13 comments on Affordable hotel in Cartagena old City? Advice needed I stayed at the hotel tres banderas a few weeks ago, and though it was great. They have a website with prices, information, and pics. Its in a great part of the old city, is clean, secure, and the people who work there are great also. Downside is that they dont have hot water, but it didnt bother me. I will stay there again.

Flyinrob13 comments on la nacional en bogota Last week someone told me that a masters back in the US carries more weight or is better than getting a masters here in Bogota. That might be true if youre going to Wharton or something, but other than that, what do ya all think.

Flyinrob13 comments on Are all Colombian people wonderful. Are all colombiam women angels Hey Goosekirk Last night I was at Cafe Renault in Parque 93, and had some Indian food. They didnt have a huge selection, and I only had the hummus and the bread (naan?), but the other Indian items on the menu looked good.

Flyinrob13 comments on Are all Colombian people wonderful. Are all colombiam women angels I have been in Colombia for a few weeks now, and am really enjoying my time here. I spent New Years in Cartagena, drove up to Santa Marta for a few days, and then flew to Bogota. Every night I go out, I just have to smile. No dance floor required. For some reason, that has left a huge impression on me. Pretty cool. There are some things here that are different from what im used to, but thats to be expected. For the most part, I think that people here are very friendly and nationalistic. Most of the people that I have met here a are very welcoming in my opinion, and they even say "welcome to my country", and go on to explain why the city that they are from is the best city in Colombia.

Flyinrob13 comments on colombia/columbia?? Gomezman5 I guess the store manager had a point. Columbia is spelled Columbia in english. How can you argue with logic like that? Seriously, the guy probably doesnt care. Just like a lot of retailers here in the states. Was it a huge coffee shop chain? In the future, I would probably still say something, but I wouldnt bet on a positive outcome.
|
|
Flyinrob13 comments on colombia/columbia?? I dont know what to tell you I imagine it is because different people are used to spelling the name differently. I tried to search for a city in the us named Colombia, but didnt come up with anything. I guess if youre used to spelling it one way, it sticks. If you are printing reference sources, it seems like you would be a little more conscience about proper spelling.

Flyinrob13 comments on PBH people catagories Los Trolls Yeah, all you guys have taken flack for one reason or another...mainly over female issues of course...but you take it well. I imagine that one day I will type the wrong thing, and become part of Los Trolls myself. One can dream.

Flyinrob13 comments on colombia/columbia?? It says Colombia on the world map that I have here in the States. I guess you could argue that its like calling Germany, Alemania, and not Deuchland (I dont know if I spelt that right)if you think that its a translation issue. I dont think thats the case though. I just think people misspell Colombia.

Flyinrob13 comments on some help in Cartagena!!!! Yep I will let you know how everything ends up. Right now, all the prices in Cartagena are pretty high, and will stay that way I think until mid January. I doubt that the place im staying at will be the best place in the world, but at this point, im lucky to just have a place to stay. Well see how it goes. Yeah, when I called down there, all the talking was in Spanish. If you are calling down there for a room, I would find someone who speaks Spanish to do it for you. Of course the fancier hotels will be able to help you out in English. For your trip down there, talking translator would be nice.

Flyinrob13 comments on some help in Cartagena!!!! Suzannyo Thanks for your advice on places to stay in Cartagena. I will be heading there on the 29th, and will be there until the 5th. Im going to head up to Bogota after that. I called Don~a Ana, and although she didnt have any room left, she referred me to a friend. I have been searching for a place to stay there (Cartagena)for a while, and quite frankly its been a pleasure. The people that I have talked to have been the friendliest people that I have dealt with over the phone in my life. They are very patient with my spanish, speak slowly, and when Don~a Ana gave me the phone number for her friends place, she made me repeat the number about 10 times before I got it right...poor connection and poor spanish. Before she hung up, she told me to make sure and stop by so that we could meet in person. I finally found a place, and know that its going to be a great trip. The pictures of Cartagena online are awesome, and in person its going to be better.

Flyinrob13 comments on Best Salsa clubs in Cartagena See ya there I will be in Cartagena on the 28th until the 5th, and then heading up to Bogota. New Years should be a great time. What do most people dress wear when they go out at night? Are jeans cool, or is it better to go with the slacks?

Flyinrob13 comments on Hey Caslug Thanks for the advice. I will use the taxi guy that works for them. Also, I am sure that I will have time to ride the transmileno...what is that? I have heard that the Zona Rosa is a pretty fun place, and im looking forward to checking that out also.

Flyinrob13 comments on Colombian Peso jumps to two-year high against dollar Once the interest rates go back up in the US, the US dollar will gain value again. A strong dollar will increase imports to the US, and Colombia will benefit from that. Hey, im no economist, but sounds reasonable to me.

Flyinrob13 comments on Mario Man, I wrote a reply earlier, but it didnt post, and I lost it all. That sucks. Anyway, I bet you didnt imagine that you would catch so much flack for being excited about meeting a girl that doesnt live next door. You know, we live with a globalized economy, the world become a "smaller" place with each new technological advance, and the internet is one of those inventions that brings people closer. Why limit your social environment to just your own neighborhood? Whether its finding friends or finding love, why would it matter how you do it? Thats just my humble opinion, which I will share with all of you...who dont live anywhere near me, but we are all talking....humm.

Flyinrob13 comments on Mario Ill be heading down on the 6th and leaving on the 17th. Its going to be a great trip im sure. According to what I have read here, the suites real were a good deal, so thats where im going to stay. It really is amazing what you can find on this forum, and if you cant find it, just ask. Cool. A beer sounds great if you find the time. Im sure that for a few first timers, there will be plenty to talk about. Yeah, some folks are supportive of the trip, but most arent. I feel pretty good about the trip, and am excited to get down there and see the city. Not as excited as you, understandably, but excited nonetheless. Hey, I understand why you nixed the idea of her takeing care of the money, but that would be nice.....

Flyinrob13 comments on Mario Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Just got back from a business trip. This will be my first time going to Colombia. Ill be going in the second week of January. I have had to plan the trip around my work schedule, but no big deal. I guess thats what everyone does. Its cheaper to fly to Europe than it is to fly to Colombia! Unreal. I am really looking forward to my trip.....is it just me, or when you mention to your family that youre going down there, they think you are crazy. I think that if I follow the advice in the forum here, ill be alright. Also, im meeting someone there, so that will be a bonus.

Flyinrob13 comments on Hey Crazy4cali Good luck. Ill be headed down to Bogota in January myself, and I will be interested to hear about your experience in Colombia. What part of Seattle are you from. I am living out in Sumner. Moved here from Texas, so I know what Mario is talking about when he mentions the scenery. Its nice out here.

Flyinrob13 comments on Hey Mario It sounds like both you and your novia have had a lot of life experience. I am sure that you are both mature people, and know what you want out of life. I think that both of you will be willing to do what it takes to make it happen, because you both want to be happy. That is my very humble opinion which I thought I would throw out there. I know that Houston isnt a garden spot, but she might not care.

Flyinrob13 comments on Mario Great story, and I ill be interested to see how it turns out. Im following the same path that youre on, and will be heading down to Colombia hopefully in January (gotta go around the work schedule). Ive met some really cool women online, and am looking forward to meeting them in person. That is the true test. I know im following the footsteps of a lot of people here. I found this website while looking for advice on travel to Colombia. Good thing too. Good luck. -Rob

Flyinrob13 comments on First Time Travel looking for information Utopia I partied a lot in Acuna, and went to Piedras a few times. The girls there were alright, but they would also catch a lot of flack for going out with a gringo. I heard that Monterey was a whole nuther story. I never made it though, because I didnt get the paperwork to drive down there. Im emailing a few girls now from Colombia, so well see how it goes. Any advice?

Flyinrob13 comments on First Time Travel looking for information Just like a lot of other people here in the US, I started dating on the internet to meet new women in my local area. One day I got bored and started to check out proflies on Match.com of women from other countries. I came across profiles of women from Colombia, and I was very impressed to say the least. Not only are they beautiful, but a lot of them seem well educated, have good values, and seem to have a good head on their shoulders. Is this accurate? Ive read a lot of the postings on this site, and that seems to be the case. I realized that I was limiting my optionis by just trying to date women her at home, and thought that I have got to go and check out Colombia. I started looking up info about Colombia online, and it really is a beautiful country, with a lot of beautiful attractions. All around it seems like a great place to visit. Just as long as I dont get kidnapped...except maybe by the right girl.

Flyinrob13 comments on First Time Travel looking for information New Years Whats the deal with Cartagena? I was planning on going there for New Years myself. I have only been to Colombia once, and that was only a quick stop at the Cartagena airport. If I want to spend 2 weeks in Colombia, learn some spanish, and party, what is recommended? It doesnt seem like Cartagena is a good choice after reading several comments on the subject, and so far Cali seems like the best bet. I have heard that Cali is pretty dangerous though. Realizing that all big cities hold potential danger, what is the real deal on Cali? Thanks for any advice that you all can give.

Flyinrob13 comments on Solo travel to Cartagena in January Going to Colombia I was planning on going to Cartagena in January as well.
