yea...Colombian steaks leave a lot to be desired. grass fed, sliced thin, cooked hard and fast till over done. Not how you treat meat

well, I love to cook BBQ (not grill) in a big wood fired smoker. To do it right it's a 10 hour process. Anyway My dad worked in Bogota late 60's early 70's I was in High school then. My wife and I are now planning to retire to Colombia in 5 years or so, and I thought why not BBQ I guess even if it didn't make any money it would still be fun.

GIB, what do you think of authentic American style BBQ ribs and brisket. St Louis style cooked low and slow?

seems like it should, they have a free trade agreement with each other.

fill comments on american vs gringo

gringo Word History: In Latin America the word gringo is an offensive term for a foreigner, particularly an American or English person. But the word existed in Spanish before this particular sense came into being. In fact, gringo may be an alteration of the word griego, the Spanish development of Latin Graecus, “Greek. Griego first meant “Greek, Grecian, as an adjective and “Greek, Greek language, as a noun. The saying “It's Greek to me exists in Spanish, as it does in English, and helps us understand why griego came to mean “unintelligible language and perhaps, by further extension of this idea, “stranger, that is, one who speaks a foreign language. The altered form gringo lost touch with Greek but has the senses “unintelligible language, “foreigner, especially an English person, and in Latin America, “North American or Britisher. Its first recorded English use (1849) is in John Woodhouse Audubon's Western Journal: “We were hooted and shouted at as we passed through, and called ‘Gringoes.’

fill comments on Just came back from colombia

San Martin and Villavacencio Wow I was just going to ask about that road. I used to ride my motocycle to Villavo for Bogota all the time ( late 60's) been to the lannos many times...love the carne assada and small potatoes and empanadas off the street. Where is your finca and what did it cost?been thinking of the same thing myself. I know a gringo has a finca near Puerto Llerras. I really want to know more of your trip.

fill comments on MOVING WITHIN 10 YEARS

colombia economy I have a thought...with the trade deficit in the US out of control, look at todays report for November, the American people could reject imports from China, if that happens, manufacturing in Central and South America could have an advantage. Colombia and a few others enjoy free trade with the US as a drug eradication program, almost everything manufactured in Colombia enters the US duty free. It also enjoys another tremendous advantage it's in the US time zone, I believe thats a big one. Fill
