fieldy comments on CELTA in Bogotá or England?

Bogotá You are better off doing it in Bogotá because you will make plenty of contacts while doing the course. As part of the course you will have to do 10 hours observation plus atleast 10 hours teaching. In those places if you get along with directors you could have a job waiting for you when you graduate.
Also, dont buy into the BS about CELTA being the dogs bollox etc.
The TEFL cert is exactly the same and is cheaper. With CELT Ayou are paying for the name. (just to give you some thought)
CELTA is centred to teaching adults which means teaching in language institutes. Language instututes rarley help with obtaining a work visa in COlombia so your first teaching job may well be in a collegio.

But to answer your question. Do the course here not in England.
Whether it be CELTA at the british council or TEFL at ISSO (www.estudiosexterior.com) they assist with accommodation.

fieldy comments on moving to Colombia - what to do with my money i bring

$$$$$$$ I would leave the money in your account and draw it from an ATM when you need it with your US ATM card.
Ask your bank in the US what they charge you per transaction, it´s usually $2 per transaction.
Forcast weekly how much in Pesos you will need and draw from your account weekly. "Davivienda" Bank allows for the highest withdrawals at $500,000 pesos at a time.

Each transaction from an ATM gives you the very highest exchange rate.

Internet banking with your US bank is also a good idea to keep track of your balances.

You will be able to open an account when you are settled and your papers are in order.

Hope that may help you. Good luck with your move to Colombia.

fieldy comments on 6 Month tourist visa, can I break it up?

I Am Australian if that helps.
What I specifically need to know is can I say to them
"Hey, i only want to stay exactly 60 days" then leave and when I come back next time say "Can i stay 90 days" then leave and come back again and stay for the final month, giving a total of 180 days.

What I am worried is they will stamp my passport for 90 days upon the first entrance, because i will only be able to stay for 60.

Does that make sense?

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

fieldy comments on Questions

degree If what DCShoeCo said is the bottom line..the top line for those sans degree is fake try a fake degree. I'm sure getting it notorised wont be a problem in Colombia.. P.S - I didnt give this advice.

fieldy comments on Question for Australians or Non Americans

Apostille You need a certificate to prove you are single.
Certificado de soltero.
This needs to be issued in Australia or wherever you are from.
You then need to go to the government in Australia. (Department Of Foreign Affairs) and have them apply an Apostille stamp to authenticate the document. You can do this by mail.
It costs $60 in Australia.

Do a search under Apostille for more info.

English? Is your native language English or Afrikaans?

fieldy comments on Questions

Degree You need a degree to get a work Visa from the Colombian government to work. You need an Apostille from the British government stamped onto your degree to authenticate it as a non fake.

You can work in colombia as a teacher on a tourist visa and you would need to get a lot of private work. If you're only 20 i would continue your studies just to obtain the degree. It's lucky you know what you want to do with your life at a young age. A lot of people don't decide to become teachers until they are 25-30+ and unfornunately without a degree, there's is not a lot of doors of opportunity open to them without a degree. It is a sad fact of life.

I refer to an example about a carpenter & a chemist.
At age 17 one person decides to become a carpenter & the other a chemist..at age 30 both decide they want a change of life and want to become teachers in Colombia. The chemist can get a visa because he has a degree in something totally irrelavant to teaching. The honest carpenter misses out.

Good luck with whatever it is you decide to do.
:-)
