venezuelan anti semitism....

could our amigo hugo be taking another page out of someone else's playbook? Anti-Semitism in Venezuela —again? Submitted by Bill Weinberg on Sun, 01/20/2008 - 04:37. Two dozen heavily armed special police from the Venezuelan Interior Ministry searched the Hebraica community center in Caracas last month, ostensibly looking for weapons or evidence of "subversive activity." There were no arrests or seizure of property. The Venezuelan Jewish community's umbrella organization, the Confederati ...

what is it about colombians and coca cola??

on the one hand, i have my sis in law who says they use it while getting a tan, on the other, i have my wife who says that "it's good for a bad stomach, but bad for a good stomach.". i presume that she's talking about when your stomach is upset. then again, she thinks nothing of grabbing a couple cans of my precious supply, and makes a special batch of rice with it. it wasn't too bad, a bit on the sweet side. ...

illegal immigration by country of origin, or where they're all coming from...

i've seen enough about how all you hear about is latino illegals, and not about those coming from europe. well, i went out and found the stats for the top 20 countries of origin for illegals and the numbers. here it is: All countries 5,000,000 1. Mexico 2,700,000 2. El Salvador 335,000 3. Guatemala 165,000 4. Canada 120,000 5. Haiti 105,000 ...

after looking at the new fees for the 129f and 130...

all i can say, is that i'm happy i stuck to the 130 and rode it out, instead of being impatient, and foolish with my hard earned money, by paying for both the 130 and the 129f. after looking at the increases in fees, i would say that the gov't. finally figured that they had a good thing going, and if people were willing to part with around $300, they just upped the fees to what people were willing to pay. once again, another case of too many people trying to take advantage of a situation, and it ...

famsearch and wife update!!!!

saludas to all and sundry! i know i haven't been around for a while, i guess that's one of the risks of married life. as for my wife, every day, more and more she is becoming a minnesotaña. as for adapting to the climate, she has done pretty good. she's gotten beyond griping about having to wear everything she owns just to go outside. she is amazed at the generosity of our friends and family in helping her to get fitted out with warm clothing. every sunday, we're off to church with my dad (whom ...

colombian by accident...

the "not colombian enough" post reminded me of something that happened towards the beginning of my time here at work. while being interviewed, i don't remember exactly how it came up, but we were talking about all manner of things, and what motivated me to go to work each day. i must have included that i was working on bringing my wife home, the paperwork and such. a couple of weeks later (obviously after getting the job), my coworker is laughing a bit about some confusion here. somehow it had g ...

my wife finally got to see snow...

finally, she got to see snow today. not just the small flakes and flurries, but the big fluffy flakes (about 1.5" in diameter), and lots of them, couldn't see across the street. she was just like a kid, happy and laughing, and wound up throwing snowballs at me. that, and when she saw the first real christmas tree (and she got to decorate it), makes all the paperwork bs almost worth it!

one week now....

is it just me, or is the i-485 a confusing pain in the butt?

grrr, i hate this form. not just for the confusion, that's a given with any uscis form, but for the fact my wallet gets lightened by another $400! any enlightenment would sure be appreciated!

Three-country money-laundering ring busted

Arrests were made in Bogota and Cali, Colombia; New York, New Jersey, Florida and London, England, according to Drug Enforcement Administration officials. They requested anonymity because they were speaking in advance of the formal announcement later in New York ...

arrival of my wife!

now that all the fun of paperwork is over, my wife will be coming up in january. the way things were going, and with her friends and family having the going away get togethers, it would have been getting to be too close to christmastime. we decided that it would be better to spend one last christmas with friends and family there, that way the upset of her leaving would be less, after the holiday season.

piedra del penol, who else has been there, and climbed those *&#&! steps?

went there on the first trip to colombia. was told it was only about 300 + or - steps. turned out to be a little over 700! definitely worth the view though. getting back down was an adventure, pitch black, not quite even steps, and plenty of slimy moss for everyone to get thier hands into... lol

a word of caution about the k-3 process...

after reading this area for weeks, i have found that there is one thing about the k-3, and for that matter, the k-1 visa process, and that is the aftermath, and associated costs.

the aftermath of said visa, and i will stay with just the k-3, as it is the one issued to married couples filing the 129f. the process is from visajourney's site, and the costs of the forms is from the uscis site. here we go...

out of morbid curiosity, i called the national visa center in new hampshire to see how our case is coming along. after several attempts, and finally talking to a human being, found out that our case was received on june 21st, and was processed and approved TODAY! they said that the info will be sent to the embassy in bogota in 2-4 weeks, and i'll get my notice when they send the info. the long wait is almost over! there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
