| Sex: | male | |
| Born in: | United States | |
| Has traveled in: | 35 states in the U.S., Alberta and British Columbia, Central and Northern Europe, and just about everywhere in Mexico. I love the food there, even though I sometimes get sick. I have also been to the major cities in Colombia, the North Coast, and San Andres, and have lived in Cali since summer 2004. Trivia: My picture at the moment is the gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, the man who was "suicided" in 2005. There were at least two movies made about him, "Where the Buffalo Roam" with Bill Murray as him, and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", with Johnny Depp as him, who was also his real life close friend. | |
| Wants to travel to: | To see the pyramids in Egypt, the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Iquazu Falls, and to take my Colombian wife to her dream destination - Yellowstone Park. | |
| Favourite traveling style: | Medium class. It's more fun than a first class business hotel. Besides, nowadays I need some respect. The days of sleeping in a sleeping bag in a grassy field near where the bus dropped us off in the dark at 2:00 AM, at an intersection of the road leading to the the famous ruins of Palenque, Mexico, are over. We woke up in the morning and realized we were in a cow pasture, near a watering pond where mosquitoes were very numerous, and cows were laying down, chewing their cud right next to us. At least we didn't get stepped on by a cow. We really enjoyed seeing the Palenque ruins, and sampling the famous magic mushrooms of the region. | |
| About (hobbies etc...) | Born in Illinois exactly 50 years after the San Francisco earthquake, April 18, 1956, but soon moved to and grew up in San Jose, CA. I retired, or got burned out at work, at age 48. I probably had 50 jobs in my life, from operating the canoe ride at the now defunct Frontier Village amusement park during high school in San Jose, CA, to summertime Alaskan salmon cannery worker on Uyak Island to the owner of a printing company in Santa Clara, CA during the early 80's. In my early 30's, I decided that it was a good idea to get my Master's in Computer Science. My last jobs were in software, including Intuit, Netcom, LSI Logic, HP, and Netscape. While in the same cubicle doing a variety of jobs - mainly testing browser and mail client cryptography, due to buyouts, I worked for Netscape, AOL and finally Time Warner, for a total of eight years, before quitting. I was one of eight people still employed in 2004 of the 4000+ that had been hired by Netscape since 1994. Hobbies - CaleƱa watching, investing, playing with our four cats, (two from California, two from Cali), using the internet, and beating our new overpriced Mazda to death on the destroyed streets of Cali. At least a tire balance and rotate plus alignment is really cheap. | |
