Estefania comments on Advice on taking money to colombia

ATM Its not worth changing your money. Its easier to put the money in your bank account and just taking the ATM card to take it out. You get more for your money in this way and u dont have to worry about changing ur money cause it gives u in pesos right away.

Estefania comments on My Colombian Daughter

I would just say ....let her do it. Maybe thats affected her self esteem and she doesnt feel good about herself. As long as shes doing it for herself and not anyone else...i dont see anything wrong with it. Let her do plastic surgery if its going to have a positive effect in her life. Think about it and talk to her.

Estefania comments on Bogota - Safe for Americans?

well if u havent been there in a while...i think its best u dont say ur from some other place in colombia...rather some other country. I tried to do the same when i went overthere (i go often, every yr) and they still notice the difference...so its not going to be easy to hide. Justbe yourself but dont talk to much, like dont let ppl know if u ave money or not cause that is what gets u in trouble. Just keep things minimum.
As far as drinks...i dont think u should be accepting drinks from anyone cause that is extremely dangerous. When u least expect it...in less than half of 1 second, they put something in ur drink. Be very careful.
And bTW, what made u move to bogota? I want to move to colombia too, but dont know where to start? Were u hired with a company?? Let me know..thanks

Estefania comments on Ni chicha ni limoná

My parents are both from Barranquilla, and came to New York about 25 yrs ago and im 21. In my house it was a MUST to speak Spanish at home. I think spainsh speaking parents that dont make there children speak spanish are doing a wrong to there children. KNowing more than one language is an advantage and this is something parents should teahc to htier children even if they dont want to. I remember when i was younger..my mom used to tell us " espanol en la casa", "Ingles en el colegio" , and thats how it was. If we ever spoke to my mom in english she would yell at us.
As far as going back to Colombia...i go every yr and sometimes i used to go twice a yr. I love Colombia and would like to live there one day. AS far as the way i speka it now..i think its good....not the very best, but alot of ppl think i was born there b/c u cant notice it. I write in spanish as well but sometimes get confused with the g's and j's and accent marks only because i dont practice it often enough , and may now know some words, but i try to read and write to ebtter it. I speak alot with my friends in spanish and on msn with my cousins in COlombia to better it...and i always ask my friends to correct me if im wrong.
As for Culture...I LOVE THE CULTURE...THE MUSIC... the ppl everything. I grew up listening to Carlos Vives, Joe arroyo, Grupo Niche, everything there is to hear in Colombia..and used to dance with my uncles and cousins. My whole family loves to dance and i dance everything there is to dance in Colombia. I used to be part of a Colombian folk group called " Estampas Negras" , and i loved it...and may i emntion i Miss it very much. Dancing in that u not only learn the dances, but the culture, and believe it or not the history and region of where that music is from. Each dance has its own movements according to its location, coastal, andinal, etc. I dance Mapale, Cumbia, Joropo, Bambuco, Guavina, Currulao...etc. I know most of the dances in Colombia..and i think everything is beautiful. I really dont understand when ppl put down colombia because we are one of the most culturally rich countries, with dances and movements of all kinds. I think maybe u should take ur kids to shows and concerts. Evrytime i go to a show to see a dance..and i hear those drums ...my eyes water...because it brings me back memoreies of Colombia...and I WASNT EVEN BORN There....but i think i was just born here by accident !!;)

Estefania comments on Contradictory reports..

Regionalismo Right from the bat, ill let you know that everywhere in Colombia is Beautiful, every part has its ups and downs, nice places and ugle places, etc. I always have an argument with my bf cause of this. He is from Cali and im from Barranquilla, and i hate it because he always has something to say about my part, or any other part that isnt his. Ive noticed that there is alot of regionalismo in Colombia...and that no matter where you go, someone will always put down some other city there, when it shouldnt be like that. Colombia should be united and as one....but all u notice is ppl sayng bad thigns about other parts just b/c they think there part is better.
From my experience ive been to Bogota, Cali, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Cartagena, and some parts of el Valle....and each having its own beautys...but why dont Colombian ppl just stick together? Such a beautiful country, we should all appreciate eachothers opinions and accept why we love our sector so much. I think thats one bad thing about Colombia...i hate it because everyone puts down Barranquilla and they say its better than there part, but i love barranquilla and maybe its not the biggest city but the people there are friendly, and "El AMbiente" is the best overthere.
I think we colombians have to change the way we think..and for once STICK TOGETHER.

Estefania comments on Also Pereira Bound

Well all i can tell you is you dont have to stop wearing anything of yours...but its better that u dont wear anything that sines to much or cost too much. In other words, keep it minimal. You dont want to go wear a movado...or carry ur wallet with a whole bunch of money....take some money with you in different parts of ur body and thats all. Dont be too paranoid...just take it easy...the more scared u are the more ppl will notice and the more likely something may happen...but if ur normal and have a good time with while being aware yull have a blast and nothign will happen to you. Just enjoy ur trip!

Estefania comments on Exit taxes for Colombian citizens

I know you have to pay an airport tax qhich i think is like $30. Im not quite sure though because i go with my american passport....but i do know an american pays more than the colombian and i always pay $30. So im guessing u shouldnt pay anymore than that.

Estefania comments on AYUDA!!!

No its ok i pass on Elmos weight loss reduction center.....Ummm what i do all day is wake up early go to work....sit in front of a computer for 8 hours...eat lunch....run to school after work and go home and sleep or do homework. (As you can see no excercise done here)Then on the weekends i go out ...eat some more...and then complain about my weight gain. I guess it was a hard summer...too much to eat...not to mention my bf's mom was here from cali and was making all these yummy dishes and deserts...sooo hard to say no.
But back to the main subject? I should definitely run, but what else is good? The thing is ive gotten lazy cause work tires me and then school...so when im home...im so tired i want to do NOTHING! im weighing 148 lbs (67 kilos), want to go down to the 130's and im about 5'7 tall.

Estefania comments on Visiting cities in addition to Bogota

PUSHPAM??? HEY pushpam...this is Stephanie from Poly..la colombiana ..barranquillera. I think your the guy i met at the fashion show but i may be mistaken.
Some advice would be to go to the bigger cities....Bogota, Medellin, Cali, and if you want coast(beahces)go to Santa Marta ( El Rodadero), or Cartagena (Boca Grande) so that you can go to the beach. I would say barranquilla...but there isnt much to do there but party cause its only during carnival season that theres alot to do.

Estefania comments on ColombianoX No Longer with Us

NEW Hey guys...im new to this and i was reading the post and when i read this :
"DWMTE once made a beautiful post about life in Colombia, how he experienced life at its best and its worst and lost one of his children in Medellin. I have to dig for the exact thread now."

It got me curious ...and wanted to know what happened to one of his kids? I dont want to be rude...but its just curiosity.

Thanks

Estefania comments on Secuestro Express

Yeah i agree with you. Kidnapping is something that i dont understand even from people who have no money. You are looking for a way to have ur family survive...but is it worth giving another family something to suffer about?? I mean makes no sense to me...this becomes a chain reaction. No one will ever be ok....because the consequence for a better opportunity for your family ...is the suffering of another.

I guess we are people with too much heart. Some people just dont think about those things.

Estefania comments on Mi Patria, a Few Songs, & What I Am

I totally agree with you. Well i feel the same as you sometimes when i hear my vallenatos in bachata. I mean it disappoints me that they take our music and say they are GREAT MUSICIANS, when in fact all they did is copy our music and put it in another rhythm that most people here in the US are used to. Alot of people i know say that maybe they took it out in bachata becasue more people listen to it ...and that in that form more people listen to it...but i disagree...people are just not open to our music and thats why they dont really appreciate it.

I think Colombia is the country with most musical culture, because we listen to everything and dance to everything. BUt i mean we cant discriminate against mexicans with their nortena, banda, etc, or Dominicans with their Bachata because we ourselves discriminate between cumbia cachaca and cumbia costena. IM costena and even when i go to barranquilla alot of people dont like cumbias that people from medellin and cali listen to, but rather they like the tambor cumbias which are the ones that represent colombia culturely.

The bottom line is...i guess the only thing we can do is appreciate eachothers form of music...even if it pisses us off. In a way it should make us happy that they are listening to our music.

But in my opinion nothing compares to our music...and when i hear a cumbia....la pollera colorada, or even grupo niche....i get nostalgia...and it just makes me want to go back to colombia. I guess thats something that only we understand.

Estefania comments on Peso bid 2292 ask 2295

GOOD NEWS! I agree that for americans this is not good, only becuase our dollar is of less value, but looking at it as A REAL COLOMBIAN....this is good news! I mean someone asked why would u want it low??? Well thats easy, we would want it low becuase that means that our economy is getting better, and that our family and friends in Colombia will be living in better conditions, and that if we would one day want to go back in the future...it would not be taking a step back.

Dont think of this in a selfish way. I think this is good for our country, maybe not good for our pockets, but in the long run our people will be better off.

Colombia Vs Argentina? Well thanks for the advice a bit helpful, but do u think it might be better for me to go to colombia?? I mean i know the country, and i have been there a couple times, so maybe it might be better for me in the sense that i am safe. Hearing about the violence in argentina scares me a lil, and i think i would rather be in a place where i know some people, could get around and wont be labeled as a foreigner becasue i fit right in.
Do you think spain is a good idea??? Or would u rather stick to South America??
This is a big step for me and new experience so i want to make sure that what i do is totally safe for me and that i am not putting myself at risk.

Estefania comments on Learning Spanish in Colombia

CURRAMBA All i wanted to say is that i have family in Both barranquilla and cali and they are both great cities in their own different ways. All colombia has beautiful women but i would have to say the interior has prettier ones...only because 75 % of them have surgical procedures done on them...but they are better looking than costenas because if theyre missing boobs or ass, they buy them. Me personally, Barranquilla is a better party city and its people are very friendly, but cali is also a party city but its more advanced than barranquilla in terms of size of city and companies.

I dont appreciate anyone dissing any place becasue every place has its own beauty, it all what u think of it. As far as me i love feria de cali...but doesnt compare to El carnaval de barranquilla. MAs where does most of the colombian culture come from??? La costa.
Where did futbol start in colombia? Barranquilla
Where do tourists mostly go ? Cartagena
Where does cumbia come from?? Barranquilla
where is shakira from? Barranquilla
Sofia vergara? Barranquilla
Joe arroyo?? Cartagena

Estefania comments on Clothing

Well in all colombia people who are well off live off namebrands. I think more than here in the US. People in colombia are well dressed and are always in the latest fashions. If you want to dress like the colombian guys overthere....you should wear Puma sneakers, Diesel jeans and semi tigh shirts....not tight tight but a little loose. They wear alot of Lacoste overthere...and if u want to go cheaper you can wear Arturo Calle.
And one suggestion....go shopping in colombia. The material in jeans there is excellent and its alot more cheaper than here...at least for good quality clothing.
