Beans sold in cans at supermarkets will contain bacon. But, in restaurants it's likely to be the opposite. Medellin is way better than Bogota for vegetarians. Most waiters in Bogota can't even grasp the basic concept of 'meat'. You have to tell them 'nada muerto' to have any kind of success. Just buy a pressure cooker and make a big batch of beans, lentils, etc and freeze them in plastic cups. There are some vegetarian restuarants in Medellin. I think they're all in El Centro, but you might have to put up with some 'fake meat': http://www.themedellinmap.com/vegetarian.html

A week later, we celebrated a birthday party with lots of loud salsa at the same time as a funeral service took place on the floor below. A little surreal.
