EMAN comments on Coffee Zone

As for places to stay - I have used this group and they have many great options: www.turismoquindio.com/ Also, they have packages and can arrange many different activities for you in the area. As for things to do and see, the Temales at Santa Rosa De Cabal are a must! Salento/Valle De Cocorra are awesome as well as the parks - Parque Cafe and Panaca.

EMAN comments on Tennis in Medellin

The Stadium and Parque Juan Pablo II has some nice tennis courts. If you are looking for private courts or something a little closer to your hotel, try asking the Tennis Leaugue of Antioquia: http://www.lattenis.com Best of luck!!!

EMAN comments on Good hotel in Zona Cafetera

For hotels in Armenia area, I use Claudia at http://www.turismoquindio.com/ They have a great selection and she is very helpful. Here's an article about the region: http://travel.nytimes.com/2006/02/12/travel/12coffee.html?pagewanted=all As far as things to do in Manizales & Parque de los Nevados - try Peter's guide: poorbuthappy.com/colombia/node/21616 Most of the excursions to Nevado Del Ruiz begin early from Manizales. Many of the hotels in Manizales offer this excursion and you can also try: http://www.turiscolombia.andes.com/eje_cafetero_parque_nevados.htm Or also Manizales tours- PH: 884-1938 - E-MAIL: manitour at epm.net.co Good luck and bring warm clothes!!

EMAN comments on Medellin on Sunday nights

Yes it is near the Aguacatala metro station. Here is there website with all their information. http://www.palmahia.com/inicio.htm

EMAN comments on Medellin on Sunday nights

Deja Vu, Palmahia, and Las Palmitas are open on Sunday nights. Sunday nights at Deja Vu is hip hop night. Palmahia has mostly locals on Sunday nights. Las Palmitas is good if you bring a large group as your group may be the only ones in the place. The few times I have been to Las Palmitas on Sunday nights, our group was aproxiamately 15 people and there was a few other groups of Colombians the same size, less than 50 people in the whole place.

EMAN comments on A Lake Near By Cali

Hey Buongone, Yes I have been twice to Lago Calima and you feel like your millions of miles away from Cali. It is great and the information you gave me was greatly appreciated. I am going back in December. Will you be in Cali for Feria De Cali?

EMAN comments on Prepagos?

This was in a newspaper last year, hope is gives you some clarification. “It used to be only women from a low social class who charged for sex, now it is all social classes. It is no longer stigmatized as something lower class. Before they did it because they didn’t have work, now many young girls do it simply because they want pocket money to spend on discos, designer clothes, plastic surgery, etc. When a woman is beautiful they often fall into this life. We are acquiring this culture which worries me, like in Cuba and Rio de Janeiro. “Marco, a nightclub owner, talking about the phenomenon of the “prepagos in Medellín, middle-class girls, often models, who work as prostitutes. It has only really taken off in the last few years. The University of Eafit, supposedly the best university in the city, is particularly known for this. “The have always looked for rich men, obviously, but didn’t charge money. Then the next day they would start crying, saying. “I don’t have enough for university, etc. Or they would say, “Give me a present, such a watch, clothes, a ticket to Cartagena or Miami. There are various levels. But now it has changed because they are losing the shame, and they are no longer embarrassed to charge money. It can be 50,000 pesos ($22) or less, up to 200 million pesos ($88,000) for someone such as a famous model who is on the TV. Who pays them? Drug traffickers. No one else has that kind of money. There are, if you look for them, agencies, and web sites who manage this kind of business and charge a commission, but mostly it is done by word of mouth and personal recommendations. “Someone has to vouch for the client, Marco said. Is organised crime involved in it? “Yes, but only as the clients... These women don’t care about education, manners, looks; money is enough, only money. With money it is all possible. Some of them do that thing where they hit you with sticks- what do you call that? “Fetishism? “Yeah. “Pablo is a director of the Zona Rosa Corporation, which looks after the interests of bars, restaurants and clubs in the Zona Rosa, the city’s main night spot. He told the Daily Journal that everyone who moves in those circles has numbers of some prepagos, “Medellín is a city of models. Plastic surgery has really taken off in the last ten years, and the concept of beauty has changed. For your birthday now, they give you bigger breasts. You can get plastic surgery on credit, as with a car, or a mortgage, pay 50,000 pesos ($22) for month. It can be viewed as a kind of investment. “Michelle, 22, was operated on just last week. It cost $1,500. She has been working as a prepago for about a year and half. She claims to have slept with the FARC commander known as El Mono, and one of the Castaño brothers (founders of the AUC), as well as various drug traffickers and businessmen. She has been to one of the fincas of “Macaco, one of Colombia’s top paramilitaries, in the company of several other girls. “No one in my family knows. She hopes to meet someone who will treat her well, preferably a foreigner. “There is an agency called Colombian Love Connection run by an Australian. He’s very good-looking, but he’s a dog. You hardly earn anything, but people do it for the contacts… I’ve got friends who have married a Italian, a gringo and a Canadian. She asked if I wanted to go to a strip club with her. I made my excuses and left.

EMAN comments on ISO: Armenia hotel options

I have stayed at the Armenia Hotel (formerly Armenia Estelar) and it has all the amenities of the hotels you mentioned you stay at. If you’re looking for something basic, I have had some friends stay at Hotel El Quijote but at 40,000 pesos per night you won't be getting all the amenities of the Armenia Hotel. I have used Claudia at Turismoquindio for assisting with accommodations and they have many on their website. EMAN comments on Termales.... Santa Rosa or San Vicente

Mona - There are actually 2 Termales in Santa Rosa. One is the PARUE BALNEARIO which is on the left hand side going up the curvey/rocky road from the town of Santa Rosa De Cabal. This has 3 pools but does not have the hot and cold water coming out of mountain like at the HOTEL. The hotel is a few minutes up the road and has the pool, bar, restaurant, and is very pretty. Below is the link for Hotel Termales and it will show pictures of both the Hotel and the PARQUE BALNEARIO. You can spend a the day or just a few hours at either of these facilities. San Vicente is much more isolated and takes a little less than hour to get there from the town of Santa Rosa De Cabal. http://www.hoteltermales.com/index.html

EMAN comments on Termales.... Santa Rosa or San Vicente

I went to the Termales At Santa Rosa as I did not have the time but they say San Vicente is awesome but not the easiest to get to. Here's a great link about Termales San Vicente and has all the information you will need http://www.blacksheepmedellin.com/EcoTermalesSanVicente.html

EMAN comments on flying from Bogota to Cartagena

If you are flying international into Colombia through Avianca, you may want to check with them about an AIR PASS. They do offer a 3 segment AIR PASS for those who use them for the international segment of their travel for $180.00 but you would need to call them for details. I looked at the 3 airlines that fly from Bogota to Cartagena and Avianca is the cheapest if you need to purchase a ticket instead of using AIRPASS. I plugged in a few dates in September and the cheapest including all taxes and charges were $542,740 PESOS which is approximately $271.5 USD. It is best to have someone in Colombia purchase the ticket or you purchase the ticket in Colombia as Avianca will not give you the most favorable exchange rate if purchased outside of Colombia for domestic travel in Colombia. Below are websites for the 3 airlines that fly from Bogotá to Cartagena. Avianca - 800-284-2622 www.avianca.com www.aerorepublica.com.co www.aires.aero

EMAN comments on Hotels in Guatape

Santa Fe De Antiqouia is great! They built a tunnel last year so it takes less than an hour to get there. It is the oldest town in the region, founded in 1541. They have lots of hosterias/hotels you can spend the day or night and enjoy the pools and the great town. You can take a nice horse back ride through the hills and mountains. Also, 6KM from the town is Puente De Occidente, one of the first suspension bridges in the world. Cars can go over it and you can get out and walk on the pedestrian part of it and take some great pictures. Things to do a little closer in Medellin would be Pueblito Paisa - the tiny village replica of Medellín with a church and a few shops has a great view for pictures! It is awesome during Christmas as it is all lit up and hundreds of vendors and thousands of people. Take a ride on the Metro Cable, enclosed gondola that goes all the way to the top of the mountain, quite a great view and a must see! Botero Museum is on top of most tourist lists, great to see one time! The PBH travelers guide has information on most of these above places. Best of Luck!!!!

EMAN comments on Airline tickets

Just need to look every few days. American was running a one day sale for $335.00 incluidng all taxes 2 Fridays ago, I jumped on that. Over the past weekend, both Ameican and Avianca had flights for the same price but now the best price for both airlines is $454.00. If I see it go down under 400,00 I wil let you know.

EMAN comments on Guide Or Person To Show Me Around Cartagena

popchulo59 - I was in Cartagena 3 weeks ago and had a blast!!!! You should be OK with no spanish, it is a tourist town and they have some English guides to assit. You can take different tours and most will have bilingual guides if you request that. Their are several big tour companies that can assit or go the HILTON in Laguito and they have a Tour Agency that has city tours and tours to Isles De Rosario and other excursions. School is out in colombia and lots of nice eye candy walking around!! Check out Mr. Babilla in the old city - great high energy disco, probably on the same level as Mangos in medellin. Probably best ot bring a date and go in a group. You and your buddies can always find a date at LDV - next to La Perla Casino in Laguito. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!

EMAN comments on Friends try to stop Killian grad's deportation

One day after winning a 45-day temporary deportation reprieve for the Gomez family, the Save The Juan Campaign on Thursday did not succeed in getting a special bill before the House Subcommittee on Immigration. Congress is out for Summer recess until September 4 and the Gomez's 45 Day reprieve ends September 14, so this will come down to the wire. EMAN comments on Friends try to stop Killian grad's deportation

As Juan and his family wait to gind out their future, the USA welcomes 6 new Cuban arrivals. The GO FAST BOAT made it to land before the Coast Guard could intercept them. They ar now welcomed citizens and can not be deported as part of the "WET FOOT DRY FOOT POLICY" This Policy was designed as Cubans are facing Politicial Persecution but these NEW ARRIVALS only mention working hard and to make money, nothing about the Political Persecutuion they have endured in Cuba. Article and video below: Cuban Migrants Arrive At Bill Baggs State Park Another 2 Migrants Found Hours Later Near Toll Plaza POSTED: 7:51 am EDT July 31, 2007 KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. -- Four Cuban migrants arrived at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, and another two were found sometime before 7 a.m. at a tollbooth about a mile away. The U.S. Coast Guard spotted a 30-foot go-fast boat in the water, but the migrants made it ashore before the Coast Guard could intercept them. The four men were treated for dehydration at the park but were expected to be OK. "It was a hard, rough trip," said migrant Alesandro Gonzalez in Spanish. "We were really scared. There were sharks in the water. It was emotional. We cried. We prayed to God to make it so I could be with my family in Louisiana. My mom's sick and I'm going to work to help them out." Another man said he has a girlfriend he hopes to propose to in the Carolinas, and another man said he has family in Miami. A few hours later, a male and female migrant appeared on Key Biscayne. It was unclear if they came to shore on the same boat. VIDEO BELOW: http://www.local10.com/news/13786849/detail.html

He is extremely fortunate to have such loyal and persistent friends. They will be heading to Washington DC tomorrow Monday July 30 to fight for Juan and his brother to stay in the USA under the Dream ACT. The Dream Act, which is a law that would allow immigrant students who live in the U.S. to stay, based on the premise that, as youngsters, they had no choice but to follow their parents when they made the decision to enter this country. More information on the Dream Act below. EMAN comments on Future visit to Medellin

The Big Rock you are referring to is El Penol, it is 702 steps but the views are marvelous from the top. You would think you are in Europe as you see beautiful lakes and homes! Their are some very nice towns on the way including an area that has Waterfalls. You can stop and get some great pictures or have a drink or lunch. Many people go to Guatape to go boating, water skiing, or jet skiing. It has become very popular and has lots of restaurants and bars and you can take a boat to some of them. Here is some information to assist on your trip to El Penol and Guatape. http://www.piedrapenol.com/ http://www.hosterialosrecuerdos.com/galeria.htm Best of Luck!!!!

EMAN comments on Cali nightlife, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Miguel - I think you are referring to El Bochinche. It is open 24 hours but most of the customers arrive at 2 - 3 AM after dancing at the discos. You must try the local "lengua a la criolla" (onion seasoned Beef tongue). Located in the 13th st and 15.

EMAN comments on Cali nightlife, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

I just got back from Cali. If you are looking to hang with expatriates/other English speakers then London Bar or Blues Brothers will be the places. If you want some more Latin flavor, then Kukurmakara - (Calle 28 N No 2 Bis-97) great eye candy and great atmosphere with good bands. After midnight, Jala Jala is a great place to go in groups. If you’re looking for more South Beach style bar then Maui (Avenida 9N, Granada) is the place! Bright red sofas and lots of tables. Great ambience!!!! For after hours & salsa, Juanchito is the place and you should experience once. The 3 most popular are Chango, Citron, and Samba Caramba. Changos is older and not as swanky but has Colombian Character. I like Citron as it plays all kinds of music, Samba Caramba mostly Salsa. If you are in the South, Aventura Plaza gets hopping on the weekends with many different bars and usually a live band. For more information, check out these sites: http://www.pegateya.com/ http://www.caliescali.com/html/sitio/ Any questions please let me know!

EMAN comments on Will Most Places Be Closed in Colombia July 6, 7, & 8

In Cali the city I will be going to for most of my trip, there will be an Election and they close the bars and prevent the sale of liquor for Friday, Saturday and Sunday - July 6 - 8. I have confirmed this with several people including an owner of a bar, and managers of 2 hotels in Cali.

EMAN comments on Medellin Driver & Translator

I know several of the bilingual drivers like Juan, Robinson, Hector, and Alvero but have never heard your name mentioned. Where do you work, one of the hotels? Most of the guys above work with gringos or other English speakers and also at hotels like the Dann and 4 Points. Do you have any references or are you recommending yourself? Do you currently work with Americans or foreigners? Do you have a cab or your own car?

EMAN comments on bus medellin to pereira

WEBSITE FOR THE BUS TERMINAL The terminal del sur is 10 minutes from Poblado and very modern. Website is:

http://www.terminaldelsur.com/transporte.htm

I agree with HolandaPaisa, mini van is better - I used Profesionales Del Transporte PH:363-2501 - paid 32.000 pesos per person. All the bus and van companies are listed in the terminal website. Flota Ospina does mini vans and also cabs - website is:

http://aldirectorio.com/flotaospina/index.htm

Profesionales Del Transporte cars seem nicer as they have these 8 passenger modern Kia's.

Buses go much more frequently almost every hour beginning at 4:30 AM and ending at 11:30PM. The 2 companies that go to Pererira are:

Flota Occidental(29.000pesos)
Empresa Arauca(26.000 pesos)

Good Luck!!!

EMAN comments on Up to date Medellin Travel info (nightlife and "sights")

BACHELOR PARTY If it is Bachelor Party then Fase II would be a good bet - Strip Bar
If regular bars/discos is better, you can look at these Medellin Party Websites:
http://www.enfarrados.com
http://www.medellin2night.com
http://www.medellinstyle.com
http://www.pegateya.com
http://www.rumbiaderos.com

The two most popular discos are Mangos and Palmahia, lots of fun but best with a large group. Parque Lleras is great to have dinner and a few drinks before heading out, more then 50 restaurants & bars.

As far as activities for the day here are a few suggestions:
El Penol Rock: Climbing 700 flights of stairs to the top offers breath-taking views.

Lake Penol: one of the most beautiful lakes in Colombia. There are boat rentals, water skiing, mountain biking & jet ski rentals

El Penol and Lake Penol is Great day trip! The town of Guatape where they are situated is beautiful with nice restaurants and bars.

Other great places to visit are: Sante fe de Antioquia, Pueblito Paisa, and even take a ride on the Metro Cable. But for a group of guys on a Bachelor Party - El Penol & Lake Penol would be better!!!

Also, you could try:
Paintball: Radical Paintball in Envigado 316-251-6132.
Extreme Paintball in Las Palmas - 311-648-7157, 300-310-1640

Paragliding: offers incredible views of Medellin. 312-6240, cell 300-651-1490

Bike Riding/Rollerblading/Water Park: Juan Pablo II Park
Horseback Riding or Zipline: Santa Eleana 538-0871, 538-0279

GOOD LUCK!!!!

EMAN comments on Night life in Cali

Miguel - I just came back from here and it is not the MM I wanted to get away for Memorial Day weekend and wanted to see what the Cali Mansion was. No prepagos and no hourly/nightly girls sitting in the living room. The guys are great and they have made a decision NOT to be like the MM. I would say a large majority of the guys coming to Colombia are looking for something like MM but some guys like me who are traveling solo want to hang out with some cool guys and meet there HOT friends!!

Medefockin - I am not sure if it is mansion or a big house - I don't know difference either. The whole street looked like it was built 15 years ago by Cocaine money. They have a guard house at the house and area - for maid’s quarters. Cali Big House does not sound as good as Cali Mansion

Miguel - You are correct that people would think the MM and the CM are the SAME but I was there 4 nights and they are not. Actually, a few of the other guests thought the same thing and moved on as they were looking for women coming in and out all day.

EMAN comments on Why did you delete the Scooby stuff Tinto?? We are good people and finally having some fun

Just like Brad Pitt I will be on the Memorial Day weekend flight and the plane will be packed with Brad Pitt's - LOL. These long weekend flights - half of it is packed with single guys. My biggest fear is not getting killed by FARC but by some pissed off father or brother who shows up at the airport and kills all the gringos. I go to see my GF but most guys are bringing one suitcase for clothes and 1 suitcase for the condoms - LOL. I am not sure why they would need the suitcase of clothes?

On Friday for the long weekend, their will be hundreds of gringos going down to Costa Rica as well - all staying at the Del Rey and all going fishing but have no fishing gear and the ocean is pretty far from San Jose. Many of the guys that use to go to Costa Rica have now found Medellin.

EMAN comments on Why did you delete the Scooby stuff Tinto?? We are good people and finally having some fun

Miguel - you had a great line the last time this MM stuff was discussed - it was a while back and even Ausise Greg was in the mix. He said - my secretary is very religious and you said "Hitler's secretary was very religious as well."

If this wasn't you I apologize but I remember the line and pretty sure it was you.

EMAN comments on * Beware Medellin Mansion

Kat1 - Sunday Barbecue would be fun for your entire family They have some kind of competition - either best ASS or best TITS. Then your family can mingle with the working girls as most of the house/strip bars close on Sundays these young ladies free lance and the standard rate is 150,000 pesos for the hour.

I think the Dann and Sheraton have these competitions in their lobby.
