Good SFO-BOG fare: $524 RT on DL

Delta has a pretty good fare SFO-BOG right now. Should be about $524 all-in for the round trip. There were other US cities with a similar fare last night; I snagged one from DFW for $540 all-in. DFW is gone now though. Jump on this one quickly, Bay Areans. Availability looked pretty good in November. Didn't check other months. This will be my first flight into Colombia on DL. Any DL regulars know how the ATL-BOG route is for Medallion upgrades? ...

Good Avianca fare ATL-BOG $324 RT

Attention anyone living in Atlanta, or able to creatively connect through ATL: right now AV has some very good fares for ATL-BOG in May. Comes to $324 round-trip including taxes/fees and works on the DL operated nonstop flight (AV codeshare). I checked Memorial Day weekend. Available other dates too. BOOK QUICKLY as this one might be gone by the next fare filing. Is currently bookable on Expedia but not Orbitz. And please, PLEASE DO NOT CALL AVIANCA WHILE THIS FARE IS STILL BOOKABLE! ...

Bucaramanga Barrio Question

Wondering what type of neighborhood Barrio Jardines de Coaviconsa is in Bucaramanga? What estrato, is it generally safe, points of interest in or near the neighborhood, etc.?

Four Points Sheraton for Santa Marta in 2009

Just noticed on Starwood's website that a Four Points Sheraton is going to open in Santa Marta December 2009. Wonder if it will be owned/operated by GHL Hoteles which operates the other Four Points properties in Colombia and Ecuador? Address is listed as Corrigiemento Gaira Santa Marta. Anyone know what this specific location is like? ...

New Years Eve in Bucaramanga

Looks like I'll be spending New Years Eve in Bucaramanga. Friend there has invited me to visit her over NYE and stay with her family. What all will be going on in Bucaramanga for New Years Eve? Any other must-see celebrations, fiestas, sites, etc. around New Years, give or take a couple days? ...

Continental files for 2nd IAH-BOG

See Continental Airlines' press releases. They filed with DOT today to add a 2nd daily IAH-BOG flight starting Summer 2008. Added flight would be a red-eye in both directions. Love that proposed schedule! For us Texans, red-eyes both ways will make it possible to spend weekends in Colombia without losing any vacation days to travel. ...

(for horseplayers) A Colombian ships north...

A Colombian horse that is! Looks like the only Colombian bred horse I'm aware of here in the states has left the Southern California circuit to head for the cooler climes of Golden Gate Fields. Horse is named Buen Mozo. Watch him in today's 4th from GG. Wonder if the morning line guy there in Berkeley knows something? After a summer of scratches and unimpressive races at looooong odds (50-1 or higher) showing no speed whatsoever this Colombian colt winds up at 4-1 on the morning line in th ...

How to find translated lyrics of songs?

Anyone know websites that have the lyrics of Spanish-language songs both in Spanish and translated into English?

Upscale finca hotels in Eje Cafetero

Looking for any recommendations for a nice finca hotel/B&B style accomodation in the Eje Cafetero. Does anyone have any good recent experiences with fairly upscale accomodations?

Timeshare condos in Colombia. Who knew?

Was in Las Vegas last weekend and attended a timeshare sales pitch (no interest in buying; was only there because of the free dinner and free casino chips they threw my way to entice me in). In trying to sell me on the tradeability of timeshare weeks the sales guy brought out the catalog of the timeshare swapping group they're associated with, called Interval International (I think). Anyway lo and behold there are actually timeshare condos available in Colombia. They had several properties on th ...

Renting Automatic Trans. Cars

Any agencies in Colombia that rent cars with automatic transmissions? Among worldwide chains I only see Dollar and Hertz doing business in Colombia and they don't have any automatic transmission cars, except for SUVs. Are there any local companies that do have ordinary sedans for rent equipped with automatic transmissions? I'm looking to rent at MDE airport (or in town) and then use the car to drive down to the Eje Cafetero and explore that whole area, returning back to MDE to catch my fli ...

Hipodromo Los Comuneros (Guarne, Antioquia)

Looks like there is horse racing in Colombia! This is great news since horse racing is my favorite form of gambling. Any PBHers ever been to this track near Guarne? Anyone have any good stories about playing the ponies, Colombian style? ...

General Aviation in Colombia

Is there much general aviation activity in Colombia? I'm thinking specifically piston singles and VFR flying. I'm sure there's a little business jet and piston twin activity going on but is it possible for an average person to fly around in a 172 or Cherokee? Do flying clubs/FBOs exist there? Does Colombia recognize U.S. pilot licenses? ...

What's going on at the U de Antioquia?

My friend in MDE is a student at Universidad de Antioquia. She's said that exams and such are being postponed and that there's a lot of controversy/uncertainty over a possible privatization of the university? What's that all about? ...

Scenic Daytrips/Overnight Trips from Medellin

Can anyone recommend some nice pueblos or other scenic areas that are doable as safe daytrips or 1 night trips from Medellin via bus (or possibly taxi, but I know I won't be renting a car)?

I have been to Santa Fe de Antioquia so would like to maybe head out in a different direction this time. Thought about the Eje Cafetero but am wondering if that type of atmosphere can be duplicated slightly closer to Medellin...

Specific recommendations on nice fincas or country ...
