ElPadrino1 comments on My Experience in Colombia

EL Noteno you may be surprised at how many prople I see not protecting thier password. Its a common practice here and you would be surprised at how easy it is to get someone's password at a ATM. We probably all, at one time or another, are guilty of the same thing. I guess we all shouldn't travel.....:(

ps-these ATM thieves are clever!

The Chica??? But could a Col Chica be capable of perpetrating such a horrible act? Ja Ja Ja

ElPadrino1 comments on Gringo kidnapped and robbed in Cali

How could this be????? This is Col. I know, it must have been the Gringo's Fault for using the cab. Or maybe he argued over the fare or change. jaja

ElPadrino1 comments on My Experience in Colombia

Juanalejo, since you are a Colombian please enlighten us. I beleive its a law in Colombia that all Colombian Males join and serve in Military when they reach 18 years of age. My Question, did you serve or as a privleged Colombian, buy your way out of Col Military Service and send a pobrecito from some Barrio Abajo to serve in your place?

ElPadrino1 comments on

IF YOU DID THAT GIB,,, probably half the Police and Politicians would be in those jails! That would be interesting to see if it affected change(less thefts) in the Number of Manhole cover thefts! jaja

ElPadrino1 comments on

Gib, maybe they should hire one of those Guys that makes copies of US $100 Bills. Possible this would be within his scope of expertise, that is, developing a method to prevent removing the Covers. That is, if they(authorities) really want to stop this practice.Seems like there are many additions that could prevent this theft. Its not rocket science! Maybe besides an external type key or plug with special keys(like some car rims have for anti theft lugnuts)they could add a Chip somewhere in the manufacturing process that would allow it to be tracked electronically.Think Lo-Jack!

ElPadrino1 comments on

That's a very accurate point GIB "Interestingly enough I have found since I crossed over that their are just as many Perra's as there are perro's. hmmm? ;)"

In many trips to the Bog area, I was amazed,on my first couple of trips anyway, about the Large number of Col Women(all income and educational levels) cheating on their Husbands and Novios. Quite high and widespread. If one listened to some of those Dating/Matrimonial Agencies, you would be left thinking "All Colombian women are homebodies, non-materialistic and LOYAL. Nothing is farther from the Truth! They really have more similarities with American women then Non-similarities. Stay away from that Agency hype and do you own Due Dilegence.

Viewpoint, you make a lot of good points-In your opinion, what is the Long Range percentage of Sucessful Marriages(outside of PBH posters) between Col Women and NorthAmerican/Canadian Men, who bring their wives to the USA(or canada)that survive over 5 years? Thanks.

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

GIB, I had a Buddy who used those Dating Agencies to his advantage and it didn't cost a Dime! Some others here may profit from his methods but remember this Guy had no intention of marrying he was just running the same scam as the Girls. Say if he was in Bog, BQA, he had a list of the Dates and Hotels where and when these Matrimonial Agencies were hosting their Meet-Ups. They always rent a Banquet Room at one of the Better hotels in the City. He would then go to that Hotel and stand around the Door well dressed I may add, no Sneakers and jeans, and as the Girls attending the meet-up entered and exited the event, he would hand out a Nice Card with his name and phone number to the Hotel he was staying at, offering the excuse "I have to leave early tonight and cannot attend the Meeting". He met many Very Nice Looking Col women this way. He had the Benefit of the agency finding the women yet he did not spend one dime. Worked for him! He is still doing it!

ElPadrino1 comments on

Thats a Good Tip GIB on not giving the Bill so they can unload their Falsos on you! I never thought about that! Thanks! You learn something new every day and I just learned something useful now! The last time someone passed a Fake 20K Note to me in BQA I was debating as to what I would do with it; as I took a trip to Puerto Col later that day I had a Homeless guy on the beach hitting me up for money and then I remembered the fake 20K Note so I reached in my pocket and fished it out and handed it to him Man-he went dancing down the Beach on his Toes; I wished I had my CamCorder handy for that! It warmed my Heart to see the guy so happy though I suppose his reaction wasn't so happy when he tried to cash it and found out I handed off a Falso to him. jajajaja Still it was Grand Fun and only matched by the looks on the Cabbie's faces when I announce I have the correct change and they won't have to keep my change from the 10K Bill. Human Behavior is a trip! In the States and Canada I have dropped those fake $100 paper bills (folded) while I am in line at Macdonalds in the Malls just to see the Human reaction and what other people do when they find the Money! The list of what they do is endless and the only thing I can tell you they don't do is hand the Money back to me, the Cashier or the Manger to return. LMAO

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

Rocinante--I agree with you !! but the Colombian woman has honed this Money Transfer Deal to a High state of the Art!! It does go on in any county but not with the expertise you see here in Col ! Its poetry in Motion! JAJA And the Giant Ross Perot Sucking sound continues unabated....JAJA

ElPadrino1 comments on

Those taxi Drivers are a Trip! Knowing they always pull that "No Change" Deal if you hand them a 10K Bill, I ALWAYS have a stash of small bills and coins just for them. Several times I have watched and then enjoyed immensely their Reaction after telling them all I have is 10K and if they have no change "guess I'll just have to let the Cabby keep the change" and go on. Then after a few seconds and just before we arrive to where I am going, I will cheerfully announce to the Driver that in fact "I have just located the correct Change" so no need to trouble you for the Change from 10K! Man, you see the change in Attitude, its like the Gringo just unloaded a Humongous Beer Fart or puked in the guy's Taxi! Now he has a frown on his face a foot long! He's missed another chance to short a Gringo! jaja No Tipitis !!

ElPadrino1 comments on Any Experts on Colombian Women?

Jaco I never went to an Agency but a few Buddies did.. and they payed up the Culo. Me, I'm too cheap JaJa. A buddy even gave me his password to use after he paid over a Grand for a "Gold Membership". I've only went there once as most of the were "Mujures de Gasolina" looking for the Green Card and GreenBacks. jaja. I do speak the langauge and am pretty knowlegable about the Culture. That's why I know these Agencies put out a lot of BS and sucker people out of their Money! If one spends much time in any Col major city and observes behavior in any Mall, with open eyes, you will see almost 99.9% of the Col Chicas with their Boyfriends or Novios, more or less,in the same Age Bracket, say within 5 years. Just like the USA! So this Bull that they(young colombianas) want some husband 20-30 years older then they are is just what it is, BS and nothing more! LMAO. In Elmo's case it may work as he is the same culture and speaks the same langauge proficiently. Big difference. And many Colombians reside in NYC, so his wife is Happy as she has friends there, so thats a big help. If one thinks they are going to Col, meet some Young Hot Looking Educated Chica then return back to the US and head off to live someplace in the Sticks or smalltown USA in middle america, that American Guy is in for the "Shock" of his Life when his Young educated Col woman becomes bored after a few months, packs her suitcases and departs for NYC or Miami or LA. Thats sadly about how it goes down for the guy and the woman has her GreenCard in Hand! Hasta La Vista Baby, as Ahnold says....

ElPadrino1 comments on Any Experts on Colombian Women?

These Agencies Write a lot of Crap for their Brochures on how the Col Women like their Men "Mature", that "Physical Condition" and Age is not important, thaat Col Women are not materialistic ect, ect! What a Load of BS! These Matrimonial Agency guys are throwing out their sales pitch and are mostly a bunch of Lies! In many trips to Col, I rarely ever saw a young super attractive Colombiana with an older, or better said "Mature" Col male, UNLESS it was for Ulterior motives. Motives such as $$$$, job advancement ect. If these two conditions weren't present, the Colombiana would NOT have been with these ahhmmmm, "Mature men! And anyone thinking differently needs to get a reality check! For the same reason you rarely see a super hot lady with some old Geezer unless, as one poster wrote about Nicole smith-she was in it for the $$$$. A person is simply being naive if he thinks the Col Woman is any different. Take away the Possibility of A Col Woman obtaining a Green Card/residency(usa) by marrying an American and your advantage in attracting a young, hot Col Woman evaporates like Water on a superheated blacktop street in a Heartbeat! These Matrimonial Agencies print a bunch of Crap to sell those $1000 Memberships. Do yourself a favor and look for a Col woman with no more then 10 years age difference! Also-, Tell the Col Woman you meet, "Honey, I'm planning on living in Col or Mexico or Panama so us living or going to to the USA or Canada is not in the Cards, in our Future" and see if her attitude remains unchanged. An easy test of Sincerity...

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

Crazy4Cali--high form of the art The Colombian Woman has taken this Act of getting money out of these Guys Via Distancia(larga distancia) and polished their Scam to a high state of the Art form. There aren't many better(con artists) then these women when it comes to working this scam so convincingly as they do! You would think they would learn from reading Comments from a website such as this but sadly many don't until the pockets are empty!LMAO

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

I have seen cases where the Guy didn't know The Guy I'm referring to Really didn't know where the $$$ was going! He was Trusting! He sent the money with Honorable Intentions to a woman in Bogota-the $$$ was supposed to go for his Ladyfriend's sick mother-for nursing care! What a Joke! The Mother was in Better shape then Daughter as he found out later! looked better also jaja! This guy sending the $$$$ was a retired banker with a Ton of Loot and usually, with the smarts to take care of his money! Here In Canada, He would NEVER send Money to a Woman as he did to this Lady in Bogota! Never in a Million years! So he made this error in judgement ONLY with a Col woman--he still does BTW so he has been unable to learn! Still getting suckered by these Young Latin Women(under 40). Fools Rush In......LMAO

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

Sorry but a Big difference here is... You don't get to see what the $$$ is spent on! Sure from time to time in a country other Col a guy may give $$$ to a Woman but the cases I have seen here in Canada or the USA is that the Guy sees what the $$$ is being spent on, be it clothes, Cars Rent ect. That is Not the case with these Locos sending $$$ to Col Chicas--the Guy rarely ever gets to see how the $$$ is being spent whether its on Gym Memberships, The Sick Mother(my favorite), Clothes, Tuition(yea Ingles Classes--right LMAO) Credit Card Bills, the secret Colombian Boyfriend ect. He, the Boyfriend, maybe(and a big maybe at that) gets to see where some of the $$$ is going on one of his Rare Trips to Col so for the most part he hasn't a clue. Like I say, this guy still remains brain Dead for sending this $$$ as well as anyone else sending Monthly stipends to Col and not being able to see EXACTLY on what the $$$ is being spent. AS they say, "Fools pay no heed, Wise men need no advice" This guy is a "Fool"....

I’ have seen it… there is not such a thing as my mom got sick, I want to study acting, I want to buy this or that phone, I will buy is the appropriate word, or I did buy."

I've seen this Scam several times also yet some Gringos, while appearing very intelligent on most matters, leave their Brains at the Door when it comes to sending Da Loot! They are refed a variation of your stories and walla, they fall for the new improved version and send money. And the scam continues. ROFLMAO!!!

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

$2000----Is this Guy Brain Dead???????????????? Man, anyone who sends some Chica down there $2000 needs to start using his head for something else other then a Hatrack; he is in need of several serious, intensive professional mental health counseling sessions! He's starting to sound a tad slow on neuronal function to say the least! No wonder a lot of these these chicks have these impressions of Americans as deep-pocketed!

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

Boatygringo, How right you are on 3 prices! Several years ago in Bogota a Ladyfriend and I decided to catch a Cab and knowing of the Tourist/Gringo Price I told my Ladyfriend to set the Cab Fare. I Stayed hidden in the Doorway just off the street as she bargained with the Driver. A few seconds later she waved to me to come and we hopped in the Cab! As we pulled away I noticed the Cabbie was Glaring at me in his rearview and not more then 100 meters down the road he slammed on the Brakes and told us to get out! He kicked us out of the Cab because he Knew I knew the two price setup and we would NOT let him charge us the Gringo Price. Man was he pissed! We laughed hard over beers later at dinner about the episode. Use Meters?? My ladyfriend negotiated a better price then a metered fare, not all cabbies use the meter even though its the law. But as we all know, laws are made to be broken in Colombia so that dog doesn't hunt and we won't even go there! haha

ElPadrino1 comments on Deportation - A True Story - does the penalty fit the crime

If the law was changed for this one person... it would have to be changed for a 1000 others. I am sure this lady KNEW exactly rules she had to abide by when she was issued the Visa-that is explained to her upon issue "You have 90 days to marry the sponsor(only) of this Fianceee Visa. If you do NOT marry this person, you have to return to colombia, what is so cruel about this law? It is not a Carte Blanche type of Visa to marry whoever, whenever. This was her error, not any error of the US goverments'. The US Government is already being Trusting in issuing many Fiancee Visas, knowing a good Percentage of these are indeed for fraudulent reasons. The husband sounds like an educated guy. an Engineer-you mean to tell he didn't research this angle first? C'mon, tell us the whole story! This lady got what she desrved, she broke the law and had to pay. It(paying for your errors) only happens to poor foreigners you say? Not True! Well as an example, I cite what happened to Martha Stewart recently here in the US; a multimillionaire who broke the law, she was found guilty by a jury of peers and went to Prison and served her time. Did she complain? Well not publicly, she did the crime and did the time(in prison). They deported a Peruvian couple recently from LA for the same reason and no exception was made, why some exception for this lady? What are laws for if precedent setting exceptions are made then 1000s of others see this an opening loophole in our laws then millions come and why have any immigration laws at all?

ElPadrino1 comments on No need for advice but a thought

Go for it and warn the Guy! Save someone a headache and some Money.... Your identity can remain hidden(secret) use a new hotmail account to send him an email or use a friend's email account so your name remains hidden! Blowing the whistle on this type of woman is like alerting your friends to a bad dishonest mechanic or doctor. Your Civic Duty!haha Its a wonder in this Day and Age --2006---that grown and otherwise intelligent men fritter thier money away sending monthly checks to their girlfriends/novias/wives in a distant country while they are not there to see how the funds are used and "For What" the funds are used for. What did that old time Circus guy(carny hawker) say "A fool is born every Day". By all means, tell him. Someday someone may help you in a like situation ect. Your post reinforces my thoughts on this that I made in another recent post , the guy is NOT appreciated any more, actually less, then if he gave nothing. As it is now, he's looked upon as a Fool. You prove my Point!
Re-another recent post of mine "NOooooo WAaayyyy Jose! Another Colombian Lady several years ago asked me for a $2500 Loan in the US and of course I didn't give the loan! Why do people try and pull these scams off? I see some here send monthly Sums/stipends to lady friends and I think they are NUTS for doing this. "Estan Loco"! I would be there in person to see what the $$$ is being spent on-Never would I send a Check or wire money or set up a ATM acct carte blanche for the woman to tap when they needed $$$. This is Crazy! Not Cheap, But Crazy! You will not be appreciated any more for sending $$ then if you don't. Maybe even less highly thought for sending $$! Caveat Emptor!"

Haji-How right you are !! On the comment "Anyway the more a gringo gives, the more people want, and that includes your friends-so called and family" A few years ago, a family(in bogota) I was and still am, friendly with, had emailed me asking for money ($60) for help with a graduation of a young colombiano who I thought deserved some help. I sent double the amount they asked for-$120! Not two weeks passed and another "emergency" came up where the family needed this time $200. I wrote back Sorry, cannot help at this time as I have $$ responabilities here in the US to meet. It really ticked me off, seems like the more I sent, the more they wanted. It was the last time I ever sent money to Col again. In this same time period, I had sent a few items to another member of the same family had asked for with the idea of repaying me. Well I sent the items(and its not like they cost 1000s of $$, things like a new HP Printer, cost me $40 new in the USA + shipping. Never saw the Money, never payed me back. I wrote it off as it wasn't a large sum but it was the principle of the matter. When someone says they will pay you back, they should carry thru on their word! Would I ever lend money or send items again to Colombia unless I had my money first?? NOooooo WAaayyyy Jose! Another Colombian Lady several years ago asked me for a $2500 Loan in the US and of course I didn't give the loan! Why do people try and pull these scams off? I would proceed with caution on buying a house with this Woman.I notice you mention she throws out those Arrows that her friends who are married to Gringos are doing much better, buying this, buying that. I would never let myself be pressured under duress into buying some Property just because my Wife's friends were buying in a certain strata, neighborhood ect ect. If you are signing the check, its YOUR call Where you buy and How Much you will spend on a House. And When and If you buy at all. I would rent first also, as others have mentioned. You should check the Foreclosure Depts. of the Major Banks in Bogota as they always have a fresh list of new foreclosures. Big Business in Bogota !! Foreclosures are listed as "estan en daciones"-in metrocuadrado.com. Like you said, you want to be real sure of what you are getting into before you sign and its too late. Thats a valid viewpoint about not setting her up in case of a Divorce. How many times has one heard that drill! Good Luck!!

Many Times in Small Latin American Towns owners will name their hotels the same as some of the Large Chains. Thats also why you will see references to Taxis, hotels, restaurants with a New York City, Los Angeles,Houston ect. conatation. Admittedly its kind of Tacky but very common.I remember traveling in the Phillipines around 20 years ago and halfway between Manilla and Bagio city a guy had his Hotel/Restaurant named "Broadway Joe's"(after the NYC Joe Namath)I suspect this is what happened here. And Santo Domingo surely exists in Colombia"FACTS:

Humanidad Vigente Corporación Jurídica denounces and energetically condemns the extrajudicial execution of HÉCTOR ALIRIO MARTÍNEZ, LEONEL GOYENECHE and JORGE PRIETO at the hands of the Colombian Army. These three historic leaders were under the protective measures scheme of the Inter-American Human Rights Commission.

Alirio Martínez was president of the National Peasants Association ADUC- Asociación Nacional de Usuarios Campesinos, Leonel Goyeneche was a member of the Executive Committee of United Confederation of Colombian Workers -CUT Arauca and Jorge Prieto belonged to the Executive Committee of the National Association of Hospital Workers -ANTHOC and the CUT. The three leaders were assassinated in an operation carried out this morning by the Revéis Pizarro Battalion of the Colombian Army in the hamlet of Caño Seco, in Saravena municipality.

SAMUEL MORALES, Presidente of the CUT in Arauca, and RAQUEL CASTRO, a member Arauca Teachers Association –ASEDAR were both detained in the same operation.

These leaders have been spokesmen for the araucana community in the numerous mobilisations, marches, civil stoppages that have taken place in the face of military and paramilitary action against the population that has cost so many lives. ElPadrino1 comments on Etymology: GRINGO

Lucia Rojas----Please read what I wrote.. I said three words Spic, mujado, NiG*er were not in my Vocabulary, I cannot vouch for others. Now as far as the Term Gringo, I have attended many formal and Informal types of meetings in Colombia, Panama and with the people I associate with, never once was a Northamerican tagged with the nomer "Gringo". I was at New Years Eve Celebration earlier attended by Latins from 5 different countries and NOT once were the Northamericans tagged Gringo. So it really is a misnomer to say the term Gringo is used so freely because it isn't, at least in circle of my associates. All I have to say about it and again, I wish you Feliz Navidad and Prospero A~o Nuevo. Sincerely....

ElPadrino1 comments on Etymology: GRINGO

as I posted, we all know our Cultural and Educational Shortcomings,so don't be offended when someone refers to your nationality in an unflattering manner. Like I posted, if you, as latin, aren't offended when someone refers to someone(or yourself) in your Nationality as a "Spic", "wetback" or "Mujado" by all means use the terminology, just don't take offense when this word pops up in reference to you . Personally its not in my Vocabualry nor is it in the Vocabulary of latins I associate with. "Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres" To say all Northamericans are not insulted being tagged Gringo is making a Generalization, whether in Mexico, Colombia or China. Many feel insulted as many Colombians would feel insulted(and rightly so) if they were referred to as a "Spic" I guess the message is , never assume you know what the other person feels as you may be mistaken. In my Nationality, Italian, we would feel very offended if someone referred to us as a "Wap" and many Italians on the street would have the fists up in your face and I consider Gringo having the same cononotation as Wap but then I never assume I know how someone else feels when as far as how they should be referred to. Nice to hear others opinions on this subject and I while I may not agree with you on ths, I respect your opinions(we are all entitled to one) *******L. Rojas-How do you know I live in the USA?***** I never posted where I live? See there you go generalizing and assuming and you very well may be wrong.....You know what they say about the word assume...Ass/U/Me.... Feliz Navidad

ElPadrino1 comments on Etymology: GRINGO

The Term Gringo is found someone's Vocabulary who is UNEDUCATED and Racist. In Mexico, Panama, Colombia I have never heard an educated person refer to a Northamerican as a Gringo or at least not in their presence. No more then someone(w/education) in the USA would refer to a Black as a N*GGER or some Latin as a Spic. This type of lingo demonstrates a lack of Education and Class but we all know our cultural shortcomings.

ElPadrino1 comments on Etymology: GRINGO

I wouldn't take it as an insult anymore then a Latin Person would if they were referred to as a Spic or Mojado. If they would not object to being tagged with a Nic like this, then by all means use the Gringo term. If not, refer to the person as Northamerican. Many take insult at this term and definetely an Educated person would not find this term in their vocabulary.

Many, not all, think we have a Money tree in our backyard or patio and all we do for $$$ is go and Shake the tree a few times and the dollars fall happily! And LOTS of them! I tell hese folks that after we work 40+ hours a week by some "Magic" the dollars appear on the mythical Green Tree and yes, a few shakes and the dollars appear. Amazing what happens after 40-70- hours of hard work! All kinds of things "Green" grow! jajaja. Same principle for that ATM we all have in the Garage! Work 40+ hours and all of a sudden that ATM smiles and gives the owner some Moola! haha

ElPadrino1 comments on AVIANCA airlines

Maybe a Chance of Connecting Only Because its Avianca And they are ALWAYS LATE leaving Miami(or any other place for that matter)If Avianca follows their usual pattern, I would guess you would depart at least 45 minutes late from Miami, so add that to the 30 you posted and you now have 75 minutes. If Avianca leaves on Time it will be a first and this isn't meant as Joke. Not having any Checked in Luggage is also good as that reduces the chance of theft which is very high at MIA(as evidence, I cite the $7.4 million Dollars stolen from a secure(?) MIA locker last week). I think you will be OK only because of the proven track record of Avianca or mejor dicho, "Siempre Tarde". Have a Good Flight!

Litost, let me ask you... As I mentioned in my last post, other posts(recent)have NOTHING to do with Colombia, completely off topic then, Do you ask the question "What's the Point" was my point.

ElPadrino1 comments on Four Family Members Assassinated In N. Bogota (Modelia)

MANY TIMES ONE COULD ASK HERE, WHAT IS THE POINT.. Looking at some of the Postings, not a WORD about Colombia-Cameras, Vanity, ect. Another article, posted just below this article, has to do with something like "More people kidnapped in mexico are murdered then in Colombia" Did you ask what was the point? This article has to do with COlOMBIA, its a neighborhood close to the embassy, visited by many NorthAmericans ect. Its posting (article) violated NO house rules as I reviewed PBH Rules on how, what, why, personal attacks, foul langauge-see no PBH violations. One Violation -my Lady friend contends its North Bogota. but the NW area, so she well could have erred in her Geography. HAHA! Did that change the dynamic of the Article? I am willing to bet that the grieving family could care less it happened in the North, west, south east, WNW, ESE, ect. My advice would be, if you don't care to read the article, scroll on by; others may be interested in the article. Simple. Have a Good Day. Feliz Navidad! And a safe one....

RUV, if you think AA has Lousy Service, Try Avianca... and the you will truly experience the meaning of "Deplorable Service".
This came across on an Interoffice Mail a few minutes ago on MIA:

"Cargo Security Task Force At MIA Nets $17,500 In Fines
Several Arrested, Fined For Driving Violations
Status;unsecured, all read & initial

POSTED: 1:00 pm EST December 19, 2005, MIAMI -- A two-day multi-agency law enforcement operation conducted by the cargo security task force at Miami International Airport culminated Thursday with the inspection of more than 350 cargo trucks and four commercial airline warehouses that led to numerous arrests, violations and fines, the Department of Homeland Security announced Monday.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection agents, along with other state and local law enforcement officers, intercepted the cargo, which was destined for domestic and international passenger planes.

The inspections led to the arrest of a commercial truck driver who resisted arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Three additional criminal arrests were made for various driving violations.

Four violations of improperly packaged materials were discovered. A fuel truck was taken out of service and removed from the airport for having a severely dangerous fire prevention system, authorities said.

Fifty-two fines totaling about $17,500 were levied for safety and licensing violations, and 19 commercial trucking vehicles were taken out of service. Three individuals were found in violation of immigration law.

"Of utmost concern is anything that is of a safety concern -- any hazardous materials, anything that would put the public in jeopardy," said ICE spokesman Evan Gross. "The next would probably be, of course, narcotics (and) any kind of cash that's trying to be flown out of the country."

The cargo security task force was organized to identify and neutralize potential public and national security threats relating to cargo transported on passenger planes.

ElPadrino1 comments on Heads up AA is losing bags

Beware AA in Miami as well as other Airlines flying in and out of Miami. They have caught at least 4 large MIA Employee theft Rings operating practically without impunity in MIA in the last 2 years. The last large group were in actuality, AA Employees. The theft from the Bags occur as soon as they disappear from your sight on that conveyor line after you check them in. Hasta La Vista. One day after the Costa Rican Passenger who they thought was a terrorist and was shot in MIA, a theft of $7.4 Million Dollars was pulled off in connection with MIA-the Money arrived on a plane from Germany at MIA and was transported(MIA Personnel)to a Secure(?) Airport Warehouse and this is where the Cash took leavee of being. The Authorities have rumored it as an inside job. And you guys complain about suitcase and this guy loses $7.4 Million, Caveat Emptor in MIA............

ElPadrino1 comments on ABC Nightline Friday 9/16/05--T. Koppel to interview Venezuela H. Chavez

Funny no outrage when several Venezuelan Presidents prior to Chavez were raiding the country's treasury. This didn't start with Chavez(stealing) its been going on for decades before chavez even arrived into power. With all the Petro Dollars from the 60s thru the 90s where did the loot go? Venezuela, with all the Oil $$ should be the Showcase of South America, World class clinics, hospitals, Universities ect. Truth be told, these crooks cleaned out the country's treasury way BEFORE Chavez arrived yet no collective Outrage at this wholesale pilfering. Where was the outrage?? Seems like it only started after Chavez Told Bush to stay out of his country's affairs(with the cia meddling) and his reference to Bush as a Mona(monkey).Urribe just told Bush the same thing yesterday. Please anyone-if you know, enlighten the rest of us as to where all this Petro Money has disappeared to?

ElPadrino1 comments on Hotels near Andino (Bogota)

Lago 76 Hotel is near the Andino mall and it doesn't cost anything near $80 per night! A friend has been staying at Lago 76 for the last 8 years or so on Business trips to Bogota. It is a basic hotel, though safe, clean, quiet and secure and costs, according to this friend of mine, around $28 nightly(as of 6 months ago). They will negotiate cheaper rates for lengthier stays. Beleive they have a website for reservations but presently am not aware of it.Good Luck.

"Bogota is just like another city -- take your precautions. I have taken the normal bus, the transmillenium bus and hopped a cab in the middle fo the road. Once I was cheated by a cabbie, but once one guy was so honest I tipped him.
I did not carry my camera or anything, and did not feel threatened. Of coruse, I look kind of Colombian. Until, that is, I start talking, but people always went out of their way to help.
There is also supposed to be a hotel near Andino Mall, called Lago 76, which is good." Past post on PBH concerning Lago 76 hotel.

ElPadrino1 comments on My day at the Embassy in Bogota

I agree with Miguel and furthermore Due to Past Scams at the US Embassies in Colombia, this is one of the major reasons for what transpires today in Bogota. The US Embassy in Colombia is not without some blame(inefficiency ect)but there is blame that should be proportioned equitably. Due to 1000s of OVERSTAYS by Colombian Nationals(on tourist, work and student visas) in the USA in the past and continuing right up to the present; place the appropiate share of blame on the shoulders of these folks also who absconded and broke US Law and remained here illegally in the USA.. This is an Overiding factor why Colombia has NOT been invited to participate in the US Visa Lottery for the past several years--all these past 1000s of Overstays are factored in the decision NOT to invite Colombia to participate in the Visa Lottery. This Viewpoint is never presented; one would think from reading many posts here that blame is all one sided and belongs only to the US side but that's not accurate nor fair. The next time one writes "Oh I feel so sorry for that person here out of status and they cannot find a good job" stop and think", There goes a person who, by their propensity to disrespect US Law, has made it more difficult for me to bring my fiancee or has made it so difficult for my brother to obtain a US Tourist Visa to visit me here in the USA". These Lawbreakers have deprived Law abiding Colombian Citizens the oppurtunity to participate in the Visa Lottery extended to other Nations, due to the disproportinately high number of Visa Absconders. . BTW, this Website is Read on a Regular basis by more then a few of the Employees employed at the Embassy in Bogota....
