A Day in Your Life Though we usually fail to notice it, government programs and policies improve our daily lives in innumerable ways. http://www.governmentisgood.com/articles.php?aid=1&p=1
Americans believe that “government programs have not really helped me and my family.1 But let’s see if that is really true. Let’s examine a typical day in the life of an average middle-class American and try to identify some of the ways that government improves that person’s life during that 24-hour period. 6:30 a.m. You are awakened by your clock radio and listen for a few minutes to the news before getting up. But you can listen to your favorite station only because the Feder ...
Why do people constantly try and compare prices of goods and services in the States (or any other place) with those in Colombia? I understand the need to know the cost of things for budget reasons, but to say it's cheap or a good deal doesn't equate. Try telling someone living in Ibague making 500.000 pesos a month that 60.000 for the bus to Bogota is "cheap". It's a completely different economy and lifestyle. Lest we forget the name of this web site.... ...
And I thought it was just the good old U.S.A. throwing their (MY) money away! http://www.justiceforcolombia.org
One of my students sent me this video. I think it says it all! I have sent it to all my uninformed and narrow minded friends and family members back in the USA who are still convinced I am living in a grass hut and snorting coke until my kidnapping takes place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgW8Y7F8DN8 ...
Anybody have some good photos of yesterdays freaky hail storm & flooding to share? I was caught without a camera in San Andresito. It was really fun seeing the reaction of all the people (especially the kids!). Being from the US Midwest it was a treat for me as well to see the "white stuff" on the ground and the many impromtu Snowmen and sculptures. It was Ironic because my friend and I were having lunch near Javeriana U. and we commented on what a nice day it was, we also joked that all we had ...
I've searched the past posts, but can't find a recent or definitive answer. Are there any bars in Bogota that have Direct TV and offer NFL games? I've heard that T.G.I Fridays might and will check it our today. LB ...
Anybody know of any wireless internet cafes near Javeriana University? LB
OK, here is my situation, in a nutshell...I came to Colombia to live and teach English last May 19th. Unfortunately the company I accepted the teaching position with turned out to be unscrupulous and backed out on obtaining a work Visa for me (along with screwing me out of quite a bit of money!). So now I am teaching private lessons and making much better money, but now I am already 30 days past my original 60 days on my Passport. I plan on going to DAS and ask for the extension and pay whatever ...

What a great site! OK, here is the "Readers Digest" version of my story. I have been contemplating teaching English in foreign country for a few years now, but have never really pursued it. I have met a woman (yes...online, no judging please) that lives in Bogotá and I very much want to pursue her. I do not feel that a week or two vacation time together will enable us to determine if we are right for each other long term, so I am committing to one year in Bogotá. My plan is to take either the ...
