eldorado comments on Transferring money to Colombia The dollar is very volatile now you are right ! Since you don’t have a bank account you will have a choice to wire the funds directly to the seller account…..that can be delicate….have a lawyer draft a good contract ¨promesa de venta¨ that will cover your interest and also check with the bank manager in colombia for the rules for wiring money and be sure that they are ready and aware to receive it….you don’t want them to send it back There may be a possibility to send pesos from the US... inform the bank in the US to send the wire in pesos…..but you may get a very low rate for your dollars….check it well before you do it One very important thing to beware of….be sure that your 100k transfer is registered as your foreign investment….be sure that the bank fill a form number 4…other wise the bank of the republica will not recognize it as a foreign investment and you will not be able to obtain residency for it There are few posting here regarding the issue just search for Inversionista visa Good luck

eldorado comments on Colombia is not safe , but I like it Thanks BAQ ! I always respect honest reports that tell the truth and do not paint everything rosy...and by that can misleed persons

eldorado comments on Colombia is not safe , but I like it Colombia may not be the safest place on earth but it has so many positive things But things must be taken in perspective....is South LA Safe? is DC safe? If an American will be killed in Bogota the state department will issue a travel warning alert to Colombia Innocent citizens are killed daily in LA, Phoenix, Houston, DC, New Jersey... to say the least....does the state department issue a travel warning alert not to visit these cities? I do believe that in any country where you have many poor and few very rich and fairly small middle class you will find it to be unsafe...maybe Asia is the only exception

eldorado comments on An Idea For Colombia; Nursing Homes For Aging American Baby Boomers I agree RussianFred that senior boomer will not be coming soon due to negative image of colombia and also because the "Depends" adult diapers must be too expensive here :-) Away from that.... Where did you see that Colombia is classified as a terrorist state? Maybe there are state department warnings regarding guerrillas in some areas and other crime but this is not related to the Colombian government Colombia may not be the safest place on earth but I don’t think that anyone classify it as a “terrorist state If an American will be killed in Bogota the state department will issue a travel warning alert to Colombia Innocent citizens are killed daily in LA, Phoenix, Houston, DC, New Jersey... to say the least....does the state department issue a travel warning alert not to visit this cities?

eldorado comments on Visa options - Business route....and how can I open a bank account Hi Gator You wrote " No cedula needed for this transaction. Banco de la Republica will supply the necessary paper work for MRE" No cedula needed..? the banks area asking for cedula,,,,,the banks will give you formulario #4 after you show a cedula and open a deposit.....banco de la rep will not give you formulario 4....they will issue formulario 11 after you deposit the money in a local bank account.

eldorado comments on Looking for a bed and table I was looking for furniture too lately and can share my experience If you looking to find good furniture at very affortable price go to the area on Carrera 39 between street 72 and 79....just walk around, many furniture stores I looked for Cedar (CEDRO), great wood a bit more expensive then Pine (Pino) but well worth it One place called “Muebles La Estrella ( Carrera 39 No 75-51)... they will sell you unpainted Cedar furniture 50% cheaper. A full size bed frame made of Cedar will cost you only 100 dollars ! They can even find you a nearby place that will spray paint them, or you can varnish by yourself. If you look for rustic look go to “Rusticus El Balcon Carrera 39 No 79-50 A finished full size rustic bed at El Balcon will cost you about 250 dollars Tables at stores cost about 200 dollars (metal frame glass top and 4 chairs) You can find full size mattresses at this area too But for mattress I would go to El Costo....they sell a full size “Spring orthopedic mattress for about 320 dollars. Hope that this help, good luck !
