EdGunn1 comments on K-1 Timeline, Part 1 K-1 visa Utopiacowboy, I have been reading over the commentary here and its appears you are very kowledgable on this subject. However reading some of this is freakin me out a little on the timetable............I hope it does not take 6 months to a year. Long story short, I have been with my Colombiana now for a year and a half and we are ready to make the move for a visa. I am really not sure where to start or if I need an attorney. I will be returning to Bogota in April and want to get the ball rolling, anyone have any advice? Thanks, Ed

EdGunn1 comments on Best Bars in Bogota Andres is definitely a personal favorite I have been there numerous times and have always had a blast. I have even taken the trip on a bus with mi novia......much cheaper, but takes a little longer. A taxi one way to Chia from the Zona Rosa is only 25000 pesos, not bad and worth it. I am especially fond of Andres sangria.....give it a try.

EdGunn1 comments on My Colombian Girlfriend utopiacowboy is right on track, we had some discussion on the same topic around the first of December. At that time i was having the same problem, although I was being told that mi novia needed $500 USD to enter Panama, not $1000. I made a few calls myself and i was told the same thing from various travel agencies. However there was a post that recommended to call Avianca Airlines directly and they ould give you a different story, but I personally never followed up on that one. In the end, I did my business in Panama City and then traveled to Bogota.

EdGunn1 comments on atm's in colombia ATM'S, the way to go I agree with skyblue and Brad216. ATMs are definitely the preferred way to go. I have used the Servihanca machines in and around Andino numerous times. The exchange rate is excellent, going to a local exchange is like robbery. The only caution i will give you is to contact your bank before you travel. Some banks, like my credit union want you to contact them prior to travel outside the country, otherwise they may not complete the transaction.

EdGunn1 comments on Accomodations in La Zona Rosa Area I have stayed at several hotels in La Zona Rosa, some more espensive and some less. I did find one that for the money, I thought was a very good value at about $50 USD per night. I have stayed there 3 times and will stay there again this weekend with mi novia. It is called the Hotel Charlotte, Carrera 15 No. 87-94, tel. 218-1625, it has nice accomodations. The room service is very good, a nice reataurant and bar downstairs (the Gato Negro) and if you are the nervous type there is a police post across the street. The best part is, it is only a couple block walk to Andino & Atlantis malls, Mister Babillas and all the other great restaurants and bars there

EdGunn1 comments on requirement for national to fly out of colombia Must be Deja Vu! I just had he exact same experience. My fiance called a local travel agency and they told her she needed the $500 US dollars to enter Panama. So I made a call to a Latin American travel agency out of Miami and they gave me the same information, of course I also thought it was BS. Upon checking with Western Union to wire her this amount, plus cash for an airline ticket..........I decided this was not an option. Western Union charges a PREMIUM price to send that amount of cash. The endgame is, i will be flying to Bogota this weekend, instead of her to PTY.

EdGunn1 comments on Good Smokes! I have been a fan of Dominican cigars for some time now. But on my last visit to Bogota, I picked up several Colombian cigars. The name brand is Monsenor, my friends and I have really enjoyed them. So when I return on Friday and I am planning on making a larger purchase of this very good cigar. Give'em a try, i think you will like them.

EdGunn1 comments on "Classic" Bogota Restaurants Andres Carne de Res gator is on the money with this recommedation. i have been there several times, the food and atmosphere are great and at a very reasonable price. I don't know if you drink, but give their sangria a try, it is excellent.

EdGunn1 comments on Celular Phone Service For US/Colombia? US telephone plans and calling cards I purchased a cellphone plan through T-Mobile. I have used it mostly to call back to the states from Bogota, but I also have minute usage here. It has actually worked well making calls and recieving them, but beware of the charges! I also purchased a calling card from Global Call (www.global-call.net). I use it primarily to place calls to Bogota, but it works both ways. The rates are excellent and I can recharge the minutes by credit card. I actually have it set up so that the minutes automatically recharge when it gets down to $20.00 worth.
