The capital of the country, high in the mountains in a beautiful setting, and probably where you'll land if you're arriving by plane. There are loads of travelers here, hostels and cheap Spanish classes - it's a great place to start your trip.

Great place for cheap stays. Dorm beds at 4 US$, big private rooms are 7 US$. There's a rooftop terrace, book exchange, the works. A taxi to get there with luggage would be worth it since it's an uphill walk.
