First trip into the jungle

Quito was as noisy as he expected. He stayed at a hostel, $14 a day, but it was real nice. The people were great. He ate so much new food he was stuffed. Prices were way cheaper than in Colombia and nobody stole his laptop, one of his primary research tools. Still no tent.

Today he leaves with the research team, 5 staff, 12 volunteers, and three guides for base camp. A bus takes them to Tena, and then they canoe for about 5 hours. This is a large multi-species census. Estimated return in 5 weeks. He took a camera but it will probably be destroyed before he can get it back.

Does anyone know if the roads are clear yet?

My son John has been hired as one of the "staff". I just got off the phone with him (noon) and they told him the roads are now fine?
