Can't help you that much other than to say I was very pleasantly surprised by this place after all the negative reports I had heard. There are great restaurants down on the melecon, which were very nice with ''tall ships'' docked and great atmosphere.

Hey. Whats wrong with that. Everybody is always talking about Chavez/Venezuela. Castro/Cuba. Or Panama. Ecuador is right next door to Colombia. Might it be that I want to party in Ecuador before coming to Colombia. I think it is quite allright seeming I'll be bringing my Novia from Cali. Enjoy the beach in Manta. Maybe Canoa, Salinas, then Guayaquil. Who knows, might even catch me a huge Marlin off Manta. Thanks

Didn't like Manta too much but Canoa was great - nice beaches, good surf, vibrant nightlife and 'rustic' setting.

bickerss, yea, well that's where the RCI timeshare is. Canoa looks like its only a short drive from Manta. Do you know how the road is from Guayaquil to Manta. Also read somewhere that it's about a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hr drive?? Any insight on any other nice little places along the way that you think I might enjoy? toneloc24 just about layed out Guayaquil perfectly. Nice info. Thanks

From Guayaquil to Manta is not too far and the road is OK. We went from Manta to Canoa, and then bussed it back down to Guayaquil. We were mainly in Manta for Kite Surfing. Maybe not on your radar; but my fav town in Ecuador was Cuenca - great spot. We took the bus there from Guayaquil - very scenic journey.

Thanks. Maybe I'll check it out. Heard of it. Yea your old email kinda said you were into kite surfing. Now that sounds like something I might be interested in. Any contacts in Canoa for that?

on Manta - it was ok for kitesurfing but a pain in the butt - the beach is out of town (20 mins or so) and it was tough gettin transport back. Also - if no wind then...............

Yep, that's where the almighty Rent-a-Car comes in Handy. Can be kind of spendy tho!! But if you like to travel around and see all kinds of stuff. It's worth it to me. Don't have to wait around. Just get in and go !!Was thinking about flying into Manta. What a hassle, trying to book a flight. Seems like all the flights headed to Manta are in the morning.I don't know. Is that the way to the Galapagos Islands? Found a airline. Icaro. But their website sucks. Aerogal has a web site. But for me and my Novia, it's cheaper to get a rent a car. That way I can take day trips up and down the coast.I like to deep sea fish. Go after Marlin. If I had more money I would be booking a trip out of Manta. Manta and Salinas have some killer fishing. Oh well, thanks for the info. I'll try to post some foto's when I get back. Till then Chao!!
