Eclipse comments on Do A Virus Check

Please understand this....I KNOW WHAT THE VIRUS DOES! My system is clean. My system does automatic virus scans every Friday, plus, I have autoprotect on. I'm a system admin. I work with computers everyday. I know that it spoofs email addresses. What I said, but probably worded it wrong was that I don't know who has the virus, but I do know that whomever has it, has my email address and Kernow's email addy too. I've never been to your website Kernow, so I don't have your email address.... well, not until now. lol

The virus payload is large scale e-mailing: Large scale e-mailing
This type of payload involves sending emails to large numbers of people. This is usually done by accessing a local address book and sending emails to a certain number of people within that particular address book.

Now if I don't have Kernow's email addy, I would say it's pretty hard for my system to send me my own virus using Kernow's addy.
I already know what the virus does because I already went to Norton to find it. What I was trying to do was to let everyone on this site know that someone has a virus. So please, stop thinking that I have the virus and I don't know what I'm talking about.

Actually Kernow, it is not highly unusual for the virus to send itself out using the same E-mail address twice. In this case, i've been receiving infected emails from your email address for almost 2 months. It's not uncommon that a mass mailer does this. In fact, the company I work for kept receiving infected emails from someone for 6 months. Based on some investigation, we finally tracked the person/computer that was infected.

So I am trying to let everyone know that you MAY have a virus on your system. Blocking an email address or using your spam filter doesn't solve the problem. As I said before, please do a virus check.

W32.Beagle virus First of all, someone's email sends it to my yahoo account. From yahoo, the attachments contain the virus. This has been going on for almost 2 months now. I thought the person would find it, but it doesn't seem like it.

It is coming from someone related to this site or their contacts. I only go to this site and not any other Colombian website. The virus is the W32.Beagle at mm!zip. W32.Beagle at mm!zip is a detection for password-protected .zip files, which are sent as attachments in the W32.Beagle family of mass-mailing worms.

Because it's a mass-mailing virus and self generates emails, I don't know for sure who has the virus. The email address that I receive it from is gringo in colombia at earthlink dot net. I have never emailed to this email address. That is how I know I got it from someone from this site.

Laptop Why don't you just buy a laptop and a webcam?? Then you don't have to go through the hassle of finding parts and putting everything together. Just install the webcam and hook it up. This alleviates having to get a case, monitor and keyboard. Just get a printer and hook it up to the network with a router.

Eclipse comments on GOD I don't understand my gf!

Family Room? Do homes in Colombia have family rooms?? This is where we put the TV. And the Living room has the nice sofas and coffee table for when it's more of a formal gathering and people sit and talk. If there isn't a family room, and only a living room, then more often than not, it's used as a family room. The biggest reason is that that's the room you would sit and watch tv if friends, family or guests came over. It's more of a casual setting.

Also, don't know if this is big in Colombia, but Kareoke?
I think it would be weird having people in your bedroom singing Kareoke.

But that is interesting that in Colombia they don't put a tv in the living room.

Eclipse comments on Is Eva Longoria Colombiana?

So damn picky Geez...everybody is so damn picky. What I think GringoDeLo was trying to find out was what her ethnicity was. Yes, she was born in the US, but she is of Mexican descent. Tell me, what checkbox does she check when she has to fill out a form:

White
African American/Black
Hispanic
Native American or Alaskan native
Mixed racial background
Asian or Pacific Islander
Other

Eclipse comments on Colombiche And Adrimm really left?

human trafficking I think Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the smaller countries in East Asia are top of the list. I remember watching a special on Dateline which delve into this thing. They caught a US doctor that was over there looking for sex with underage girls. Girls as young as 9. And as Caslug pointed out, they just don't have the resources to prevent this.

And as LionHeart pointed out, this is not only about sex. Sex is only part of the practice. People are used in sweat shops, abused labourers or servants.

Eclipse comments on Where can I take my Colombiana here in the Los Angeles to have a good time.

Some ideas Mariasman,

First I would try to set a time for Disneyland. It's probably the most well known theme park in the World. It would be a shame for your Colombiana to travel all the way to Southern California and not see it.

The malls I would suggest are: South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Beverly Center in Beverly Hills, and Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
South Coast Plaza is always a big tourist spot. Many shops.

San Diego is also a nice place to spend some time. And you can always go to the zoo and Sea World there.

PM Me for more things. Depending on what your wife's interests are, there are probably more things to do. Like Knowledge mentioned, Hearst Castle, Catalina Island, Olivera Street are nice places.
If you both like wine, you can drive to Napa and experience all the wine tasting there.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Caslug Ghirardelli?!?!? Wow...that is pretty high end.

So I need to bring a big bag of Ghirardelli chocolate to Colombia and I'm in like Flynn??? ;P

Eclipse comments on Hurricane Warning San Andres...

Update Seems it missed San Andres, but still approaching Providencia.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/10/28/beta/index.html

SAN ANDRES, Colombia (AP) -- Tourists and residents on the Colombian island of San Andres who hunkered down in shelters to brace for Tropical Storm Beta were spared the brunt of the storm as Beta's eye veered east of the island Friday.

But the storm, which appeared on track to become the 13th hurricane of the already record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season, still posed a threat to the smaller, neighboring Colombian island of Providencia and the Nicaraguan mainland, said Humberto Gonzalez with Colombia's meteorology institute.

"Right now Beta is moving away from San Andres island, but on the contrary, is it approaching Providencia," he said. Providencia is a mountainous island north of San Andres with plenty of high ground.

In San Andres, which sits 110 miles (177 kilometers) west of Nicaragua's coast, the storm brought just light rains and wind. After the island's police lifted a ban on people being outside, some tourists returned to the beaches and swam in the ocean.

After passing over Providencia, it is expected hit mainland Nicaragua as a strong Category 2 hurricane by Sunday. It was not expected to hit the United States.

Officials on both islands said residents were prepared for the worst.

"We've been watching the Americans on TV, learning from them," said Col. Carlos Mena, the police chief of San Andres.

Hurricane Wilma, the most recent storm to hit the United States, has caused widespread outages and gasoline shortages across Florida, and the U.S. Gulf Coast is still struggling to recover from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which caused chaos and devastation in New Orleans and other communities in August and September.

In Nicaragua, the government was evacuating 5,000 people from the Caribbean coastline and sending in troops to help the remote region prepare for the storm's expected arrival Sunday.

"We can't do anything about damage to property," said Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolanos. "We will see about that afterward. The important thing is to save lives."

Classes were canceled, and businesses were warned against price gouging as the storm's outer bands of winds and rain began lashing the coastline.

Bolanos said the government was sending in food, medicine, clothing and other emergency supplies.

Gonzalez said the storm was likely to hit Providencia with winds of 100 kph (62 mph), and that Beta's eye may pass right on top of it.

Beta was moving north slowly at about 5 mph, and was expected to take a gradual turn to the northwest.

This year's Atlantic hurricane season has seen more named storms than at any point since record keeping began in 1851. The previous record of 21 was set in 1933.

Last week Tropical Storm Alpha formed, which was the first time a letter from the Greek alphabet has been used because the list of storm names was exhausted.

Eclipse comments on Access Denied...Why?

your session timed out There seems to be a session time limit on user accounts where if there isn't any activity for like 15 minutes, it logs you off.
So if you're writing a long question or response, make sure you copy it somewhere as your session may have timed out.

Eclipse comments on Language Shock....

kernow62 Wow...Benny Hill. Is he still alive?? LOL

If it was a REAL chinese person, he would have said,
"She was breast with two Rovery nipples." LOL Don't forget the R's in 'lovely'. :P

The one phrase I remember that totally threw me for a loop was, "me haces mucha falta". I was like....?!?!? huh?? "you do me a lot of lack"??? :)

Eclipse comments on Language Shock....

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr As an asiantico gringo learning spanish, the hardest sound for me is the rolling R. Ferrocarril turns into "Fellocallil".

One of the things I'm learning is that what I would normally say in English, can't be a direct translation into spanish, so I'd have to think of another way to say it. I was chatting to an amiga and I wrote "I'm afraid not" in spanish. She replied, "Why are you afraid". Little things like that.

So what does "She sells seashells by the seashore" sound like?? :)

Speaking of Medical care What is the cost of medical care? If 60% of the population is poor, can they even pay for medical care? If people are already paying for rent, food, etc. and a family member gets sick or worse, is it feasible for them to pay for treatment, or does the government help? Just curious. 70k pesos for a house call....damn, that's my co-pay and I would still have to drag my ass to the doctor. And after all said and done, it would cost more for the prescriptions, which half of the time doesn't even work!

New Priest A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak.
After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done. The monsignor
replied, "When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip."

So next Sunday he took the monsignors advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm. Upon his return to his office after mass, he found the following note on the door:

1. Sip the Vodka, don't gulp.
2. There are 10 commandments, not 12.
3. There are 12 disciples, not 10.
4. Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.
5. Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass.
6. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.
7. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the Spook.
8. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the shit out of him.
9. When David was hit by a rock and knocked off his donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ass.
10. We do not refer to the cross as the "Big T".
11. When Jesus broke the bread at the Last Supper he said,
"Take this and eat it for it is my body." He did not say "Eat me."
12. The Virgin Mary is not called "Mary with the Cherry."
13. The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, yeah God.
14. Next Sunday there will be a taffy-pulling contest at St. Peter's,
not a peter-pulling contest at St. Taffy's.

Eclipse comments on Things to Do In San Andres??

Things to do I was there in July. The Decameron near the airport is the Isleno. It's like a 10 min walk or 2 min car ride. The Isleno probably has the best beach out of the other Decamerons. The great thing about the Decameron is that you can go to any of the 5 Decameron there and hang out, have lunch or dinner, and enjoy the entertainment there. I believe the Aquarium and Marazul have some kind of entertainment each night. They also provide free shuttle to each hotel. The Aquarium and Isleno is close to the city so you can go shopping and walk around town. The Marazul and San Luis are a little ways away and you'll need to take a taxi or shuttle.
Some things to do:
Visit Johnnie Caye(separate little island)
Snorkeling
Diving
Tour of the Island
Jet ski
and last....RELAX!!!

You'll have a good time. Ohhhhhhh, remember to bring some bug spray. The mosquitos love US carne. ;)

Eclipse comments on NO ENGLISH NO GRINGO (A)???????

First, I would think the the gringo/gringa would know how to speak the language of their significant other. If they don't, then Yes, that would REALLY be strange. But if they can speak to each other and communicate that is all there is to it.

Second, the US is a big melting pot of different races, nationalities, and ethnicities. Go to any big city, and I'm sure you can find people with similar backgrounds living in close proximity, ie Chinatown. Here in Southern California there's tons of different communities, Chinatown, Koreatown, Westminster(Vietnamese), Santa Ana(Latinos), and others I can't think of right now. If the couple is living in a community with others alike, I don't think it's that big of a problem. Now if they're living somewhere where there's no one similiar they can speak to, then that would be a problem.

Last, I would think it all depends on the person. Some people may be in finacial situation where it is better to move, and others may just want to live in the US. Who knows?

I don't think that Cam is giving up on his daughter, but there is only SO MUCH he can do. As they say, "It takes two to tango". From what I've read, Cam has jumped through hoops, done everything he can possibly do to fight the system to try and get in contact with his EX to find out where she is. Now if the EX is not willing to do the same, what else is he to do? He's paying his child support but hasn't seen his daughter. Is that fair? The system really sucks here in the US. Yes, you hear tons of stories of deadbeat dads, and that's what the system is suppose to be for, but it doesn't help a dad who follows the rules and it's the mom's that's in the wrong.
Or even worse....the child isn't even the dad's and he's still forced to pay child support! See for yourself.

I'm sure Cam will continue to find ways to get in contact with his daughter, but after time and time again with no success and the cards are stacked against you, it's demoralizing.

Eclipse comments on what to do on a 8-hr layover in el dorado airport, bogota, colombia

Watching the planes, Tocumen – Panama City Airport I had a layover at Tocumen when i was coming back to the US, and that IS the view from the guy's bathroom. I was in shock. They are doing construction at that airport. I felt weird taking a piss in front of a window, while looking at the planes. At least I wasn't in the crapper. :)

Hi esanch,

I was in San Andres in July. My first time to Colombia, and I have to say, I had a blast. The people are really friendly and the beaches are great. I only know a little spanish, but that didn't keep me from meeting the people there. I met people from Cali, Medellin, Ecuador, Santa Marta, and Mexico.

There's diving, snorkeling, tour around the island, jet skis, banana boat, shopping, and just plain relaxing.

It's definitely a caribbean atmosphere where everything is laid back. I haven't been to Cartagena, but the Colombians i spoke to said that I should visit there too.

I hope to return to Colombia soon.
