It now seems to be ok (legally) to share your Google adsense revenue.

Mark: “Since August 6, 2003, I have made $7915 from Google Adsense. My daily revenue peaked in April 2004 at about $18 per day and has been steadily declining ever since. Last month I averaged just under $9 per day. I have ads on Dive Into Python, Dive Into Accessibility, Dive Into OS X, and dive into mark.”

I’ve made $3,641 since June 2003 - in 4,638,888 pageviews. Not bad. Most of that comes from ads on my Colombia forum. Very little from the ads on my blog, that I have turned on and off at different times.

What this means for working for yourself: ads on a blog won’t get you much $$, unless you’re a super A blogger and even then. Building a useful community site seems to work much better for generating ad revenue.

    Hi Peter,
Ten months back when I started toying with the idea of leaving my comfy job with GE and striking out on my own, I came across you blog through Google search. And I found myself coming back again, and again, and again to read your chronicles. In some sense you charted the path for me.

When I started thinking about setting up my own blog, I decided that the first post on my blog would be about your blog.

Four months back I quit my job, and two days back I set up my own blog. Unfortunately, I did not to link to your blog for the simple reason that I don’t see myself coming back to your blog anymore. In my case, this is simply because while I see tonnes of content, I do not find the relevance anymore. I’d rather think of you as a filter to information that passes only the best stuff to me. If the filter starts sending too much my way, probably I would change it. And thats exactly what hapened in my case.

Could dropping traffic (people like me) be the reason for lower ad-sense revenues? I dont know.

Your latest change to the homepage structure is a good step forward, but there’s a lot more you could do.

There is more I have to say but this is definitely not the forum for that. I’d rather have a private conversation with you, for the simple reason that criticism is best done in private.

I hope you do check the comments, and would drop me a mail. You can delete this comment after that.
