Russell Beattie Notebook - Backpack: Too Bad It’s Not Mobile: “Backpack’s kinda nice… for a PC app. You know, so much effort being put into a dying platform, it sorta makes you sad. Really, it’s too bad there’s not a mobile version baked in from the start.

this stupid AJAX fad just makes their web pages more non-standard and all that much more impossible to re-use, so they decided to skip it.”

I completely agree with this sentiment, but Backpack is planning on building in functionality to accommodate mobile. But, the larger problem are the places around the globe where the cybercafe does not have the most modern browser and the web tools just fail to work. My tools I trust my needed information to must work. I have the tools at my disposal to have these tools work today, well while I am not mobile. Building tools that are not mindful of the ever growing mobile population in the USA, or the huge mobile only population around the globe is rather short sited.

I am not saying AJAX is bad, but it should not be the only solution for an application to work. We have to work smarter, not cooler.
