Why is it 2005 and is it still so hard to cross-platform script stuff? Python on the desktop exists, and seems to be used a lot. But this stuff should be MUCH easier, so that developer/users (like Adam Curry) can create their own apps relatively easily. FTP, XML_RCP, RSS/XML parsing and all that should be supereasy and out of the box.
