dwmte7 comments on The two types of "permissions" to import your vehicle.... oh! if i would have known all this when i was young and had money........ not many of you can remember this but back in the 80's when i was the only gringo living in poblado, what a treat it would have been to have my own short. then, i had money and priviledge. now, old and tired, i don't have the money, just gray hair and false teeth. love your youth, friends, it's so soon gone and replaced by the inevitable...old age. now, next stop, 70, i just put up with the days and long for the day when mom and i can go home and the little one can be off on her own or at university so i can go back to the finca, watch the cows piss, hang with my friends and watch the sun rise and set in the magnificence which is only found at the breast of mother colombia....

dwmte7 comments on TRIP REPORT...(yes,another).............Los Lomas Finca Hotel my part of the world raaay...excellent. just goes to show folks why i've spent the last 12 years out of the last 19 up country in and around llano grande rather than back in medallo with the family. someone asked above about property in llano grande. my suggestion would be to go to gualanday--close to tutucan--and ask the folks there. they know everyone. i've been friends with them for many years. tell any and all, 'hello' from douglas martin. in my personal opinion, it is the best centro comercio in all of colombia.

dwmte7 comments on I need information on Colombia to help with a project in school. one thing i learned in school--back in the ice age of my life--was that everybody has to do their own homework. best suggestion from me would be, do it...then, after you've burned a few midnight hours searching info on line or whereever, then ask the crowd here. if you have a few of your queries lined up do as r.jorge said above, google them into the search line above and you'll find tons of info. a number of us who've lived there for years have been posting here for more than 7-8 years. i don't do my daughter's homework until she's got it in an organized form. so i doubt i'll do your's..that is until you've got your ducks lined up. then, i as well as all the other's who know will be more than obliged to help you.

dwmte7 comments on transporting a Tractor to Medellin. m.....not certain, but i do know that there's a real big business in importing used/reconditioned heavy equipment. whether that includes your kubota, is another story. call DIAN and ask them. it's too bad the 'bulldog' is gone. she was about the only person you could get a really straight answer from. but, it's worth the ask.

dwmte7 comments on Getting away with it when they asked me what i was doing all that time, i told them the truth, just trying to get my familiy back together. that simple. like i said, the fine was under 500 us

dwmte7 comments on can love be created as most discover after trying to change others, the only person one can change--if they persist at it--is themself. one can never change someone else. that's the problem with so many relationships. folks want to change someone else to fit their fancy/desire. aint' gonna happen. just changing oneself is a monumental task. i might add, however, well worth the work. for out of the fire, like the phoenix, comes a reborn self. fresh, renewed, cleansed and ready for more mtns to climb. whichk, of course, requires further, greater change. all part of the path to perfection.

dwmte7 comments on Another Terror Sponsor Obama Has Promised to Meet: Hugo Chavez esanch...what exactly do you think we've been doing with kim jung il of n. korea? we been talking to this )(*&(*^%^%$#% for the last 20 years. has it done much....no, but it hasn't hurt, either. maybe we should write off all the cuban people as well. or the palestineans, or the venezuelans, et al. that's why diplomats exist. we were in constant contact with the germans during wwII. only mr bush has this hard nosed attitude towards the world. mr reagan, on the contrary, was one to engage all.

dwmte7 comments on Getting away with it i spent a number of years--about three--flying every 3 months to panama city in the a.m. and back in the afternoon, getting a new visa upon re-entry. too, the last time i was down for a long time, the mrs and i were at odds and i stayed up in the mtns and she with the family in envigado. i stayed a little over two years past my visa. when we came home, i went to DAS and the fine was about $450.00 u.s.

dwmte7 comments on san andreas marriage ideas as for photos, it don't take rocket science to get someone to do the photos. again, ask the priest if you don't know anyone.
|
|
dwmte7 comments on san andreas marriage ideas friend....as for marriage, after you have your paperwork taken care of, go to a small parish and speak with the priest. it will cost you what you donate.

dwmte7 comments on Everything You Wanted To Know About Islam personally, i don't feel that criticism of the TRULY faithful and GOD/ALLAH serving folks is in any way constructive. i was taught by my elders that one shouldn't talk about another and his/her life/ways until we sit down and eat a bucket of salt with them, thus they. it is the ignorant and false speaking/acting which deface the ways and works of GOD. not the lives of his honest humble servants. and for the former, karma will take care of them. that is, unless we want karma to take care of us.......

dwmte7 comments on can love be created loving, as some know it, is a whole, real and selfeffacing posture. it is giving without thought of reward. if one is truly loving--100%--there's no time to stop and think how much they're getting. that's the whole point. if you're loving, really loving, your safe. if not, you're destined to be in the hopeless, deep shit, of one more sour relationship...that's not safe.

dwmte7 comments on help in posting an attachment i received in an e mail thanks guys...can i open the file and 'copy/paste' with the file opened, showing the pictures opened instead of folks having to click open a file or go somewhere else to view. i gave up on high technology when my hair turned gray and my teeth fell out...

dwmte7 comments on Another Terror Sponsor Obama Has Promised to Meet: Hugo Chavez all this hot air about obama. we don't live in an insular world. we need to talk with folks... during the second world war, we carried on talks with the nazis, and during the cold war we carried on talks with everyone. the best way to know what the enemy is about is to get to know him. the u.s. up an invades iraq and says it doesn't want to talk with folks. hmmmm the world is changing fast and new players are coming on the field. pretty soon the only 1st place we can claim is the fact that we have 10 times as many nuclear weapons as the rest of the world put together. so no matter how big the new biggies get, we are still a great big power to be reconed with..... remember, 'the first blast, is the last.

dwmte7 comments on Gringo Shooting on Friday i STILL hate the fact that the last post is last in the queue...you have to scroll through all the posts just to get to the most recent. viva the old way, peter, let's get back to it. just thought i'd share an incident that i was witness to and have posted on here a couple of years back when i had my bar in llano grande, close to don diego (BAR FLOT) my neighbot, who had a large crecero (nursery) got in an argument with his mayordomo and ultimately shot the mayordomo dead. well, when the head of the 4th brigade (i think ) arrives, he explains that he shot him because the mayordomo had 'insulted' him. to this, the military chap replied, loosly translated, 'now we can't be havin that, now can we'. the body was layin in the road and the officer and the neighbor asked for a beer, drank them and that was it. period. no investigation, no witnesses--other than the deceased and the shooter--entonces, no crime! which further illustrates the unfortunate fact in colombia that wealth has it's priviledges. the body laid in the street until the family claimed it much later.

dwmte7 comments on Registering my child in order to obtain citizenship lp....not sure where she was born, but if she's a us.citizen born abroad in colombia, you should have dealt with all that rubbish (offices, people, paperwork, etc) at the time of her birth. if she's born in the u.s. it's a subject i've not dealt with. soooooo. if she is a u.s. citizen born abroad, shewill need a colombian passport just to enter the country as it is stated in her u.s. passport that she was born in colombia. in that case it's outta your hands. dw

dwmte7 comments on need a new name from an old colombian refugee to a new one--relatively speaking--why not, 'el capo'....hmmm

dwmte7 comments on can love be created love isn't something we, in our limited, often corrup and poluted conscience can produce. love exists. this divine logos is everywhere present. free will comes into play when we exercise the will to good and deside to participate and enliven this divine attribute. too, we must remember that it is not a noun, it's a verb. it's very hard work that needs attention in every moment, with every breath.

dwmte7 comments on Morphus was right. glad to hear that friend....keep a tight hand on it. love does wonders. all the best to both of you.

dwmte7 comments on i've been wondering lately.. pod, i'd have to--at this time of my life--substitute foolish/careless for impressive. youth and it's priviledges which were afforded me allowed me to be a real dumb ass and careless in respect of my children's, their mother's and my life. however, that being water under the bridge, i deal with it as it is. but i look forward to the time i can relax with you and other friends back home and actually enjoy a day of retirement.

dwmte7 comments on Wine/Grapes there's plenty of good climes and soils in colombia. you'll want your root stock from napa or the san juaquin valley in calif or someplace in france. the california are really hardy and can tolerate just about anything. then it's just developing your vineyard. takes about 7 to 15 years to develop a good annual trellis plant that's happy in the ground and knows what to do when it comes up each year. by 7 years your plants will be full fruiting and by 15, they will be as good as 100 yr old stock. choose your strain wisely from a grower that you like their venting. get dept of ag permission to enter the plants into colombia so they are not gassed and destroyed in la aduana. we started a pistacio orchard up by bello...first in colombia.

dwmte7 comments on to live in Colombia ? bogota, hmmmmmm...just one big cold bummer. give me medallo. medellin with all the pueblos close in from bello in the north to guarne in the east to caldas, primavera and amaga in the south and maranilla, la ceja, don diego, tablaso, el retiro, rio negro, carmen de viboral, et al in between...who on earth wants bogota ie suck city. after 19 years one develops an opinion. my feelings on the coast are as those of most others...now and then, but not to live. if i like it cool i can stay up in los llanos where most of my tight friends live. if i want it a little more toasty, back down in medallo--poblado, envigado, las palmas, sabaneta...where it's great for kids.

dwmte7 comments on i've been wondering lately.. cat....i must confess to daliance way out of control. in all cases it was my 'horn-dog' ness linked to having money, time and decent looks, i just couldn't resist a strange tumble in the hay, every day if possible. in the early days, i had three stores in berkeley and with all those young lovelies, not unlike myself, wanting to make love, not war, getting laid was a piece of cake. too, everyone in town knew, that if you worked for douglas, you had to screw him. i even had a bed installed above my desk in a little loft, in my office. how bad i was. i really mean that. all of the wives, with the exception of my first who died--that one really screwed me emotionally for life--were/are like sisters. they're all friends and then in the 70's 80's, they conspired together and decided, 'screw douglas', let's give him the kids and let him take care of them...which they did. imagine me taking care of 5 of the 8, a single dad, running businesses in malibu, santa monica and bev. hills. whew. one huge long story of a trip.

dwmte7 comments on Feds Bust 83 in Florida Marriage Fraud Scam you folks trying to get papers these days, have my condolences, you gotta long roe to hoe. when i married over 19 yrs ago, it was a cake walk at the old embassy in downtown bogota. three days later, all papers in hand. now? you might as welll use a gun! over the years i've heard every problem imaginable. good luck to you folks.

dwmte7 comments on when i had my store in bev hills in the design district--before the rodney king riots--we went to one on the downtown end of melrose. down by the freeway off ramp. can't remember the name...again modest, but inner LA ain't medellin, now is it.

dwmte7 comments on to live in Colombia ? ditto, peter's comments. gonna have to get a little more specific. as for where, that's really personal specific. i can only stand antioquia. other's can tolerate other locals. but it you want to have your large family here, i'd personally suggest the surrounding pueblos of medellin. specifically, llano grande. a bit like heaven on earth. this opinion is weighted by 19 yrs of experience. good luck to you and yours.

dwmte7 comments on Morphus was right. GS you're in that hopeless delima/state, where man is confronted with the reality that a stiff d**k got no conscience and the owner is subject to the conditions which apply. good luck.

dwmte7 comments on i've been wondering lately.. well, guy, now that you asked...been married 7 times (all but the first are still alive and the last time i checked, so was i) so with those numbers, it must somehow inclued all the catagories you and others have mentioned above. i've certainly been resident in all. now, after nearly 20 years--i long since decided this was the last time--i realize, at least for myself, there does not exist a 'peas in a pod' relationship. because, 'love' (if we collectively agree that love is the glue that makes for the most rewarding relationship, however, we often forget that love ain't a noun, it's a verb. it's work! and if i can say for myself, it's damn hard work. it's puttin one's ass to the plow, all day, every day. si o no. now as for yourself, if all goes bust, or, if nothing ever comes of something, you always have the open door of sailing off into the sunset. peace, douglas
