visiting boyaca...

friends... this summer while we're visiting family in medellin, my daughter, laurita, and i will be going on a jaunt out to boyaca. i've never been there, but am interested in the ceramics and stone work done there.

would appreciate any info on where to go/stay and some interesting hints on what to do. i'm way to old for the club scene so take that out of the list of options (too, my daughter's too young jeje) anyway. we'll be going to villa de leyva and raquira...or???.

reading your comments in another thread was like listening to me, talking to myself....

question about 'disposable' cell phones.

how much does a cheap cell phone which uses pre paid cards cost?

i can't use my present phone there and i don't want to spend a bunch of money setting up accounts and paying bills.

any info appreciated,

finally back to colombia...llano grande and medellin

hello friends...if you can believe it, we're finally going back to the motherland to visit family and friends. it's been so long, i'll be in a state of shock for a moment, but not much longer than that. we have our own home in envigado, but since i don't like staying there, nor with the family, i'll probably spend more time in los llanos and the wife and daughter with the family down below.

anyone who would like to get together for a drink or a meal, e me (dwmte at bellsouth.net).< ...

yawn.....what have we come to?

earlier today i read a post about who has an opinion about colombian women (or something like that), by mario.

well after reading into it, it was clear that it was growing more and more into a personal assault by one poster against another, none of which was really clear.

what was clear was that all the attacks and foul accusations were uncalled for. we all have to remember, none of us agree with each other...ever. maybe on points here and there, but in total, for ...

hello, everyone...

it seems like forever since i've been able to post. got a new computer and it wouldn't take a 'log on'. i had dial up and finally got RR and now i can log on and give my usual opinions on any and all topics.

just wanted to say HI to all of you--you know who you are--i've missed you, your comments and your friendships.

finally got my passport woes solved and can get a new one so we'll be getting back to the promised land before long.

peace to all,

hello to all you friends and foes...

i've been suffering a dumb computer with a massive coronary and haven't been able to log on from home. so i finally came to the university and used their systems. plus, here they have 't-3' lines (the fastest) to be honest, i really don't know what t-3 means, i do no it's fast. i no more than hit 'go' and i'm there. like a comet. makes roadrunner or 'highspeed', like dialup.

i just wanted to say that i miss you all and have truly missed chatting about all the this' and thats ...

shakira/bugs bunny

i never would have thought of shakira and buck teeth in the same sentence, but when viewpoint suggested opening the link below on his thread about shakira donating a school in choco, i was really taken aback. talk about deja vu all over again, it was like seeing freddy mercury for the first time. he (and she) had the biggest f.....g teeth i've ever seen.

my wife and daughter said, "no", "she can't have teeth like that." so my daughter got album covers...cassettes and cd's and ...

look how fast money corrupts...

a perfect example is brazil's new president mr. ignacio lula de silva.

he has just been guilted by the earth resources defense council or something like that for permitting the largest 1 year deforestation project in the history of the world. this last year they cut down and burned 26,000 sq kilometers...an area larger than belgium and constituting 1/5th the total of the amazon rain forest. THIS over his repeated statements that he and his 'gang' have taken steps to reverse t ...

film festival in medellin

one of my sons is a film maker--aspiring--and has been invited to submit his short to the bogota film festival.

he chatted with me yesterday and asked if there was a festival in medellin. i had no answer.

i told him i was pretty sure that there was one in cartagena, but wasn't sure if there was one in medellin.

any of you folks better informed on this?

thanks,

way off the wall...corazon sagrado...

i was just sharing with some of the group that during his funeral, one of the cardinals (?) was talking with matt lauer of NBC and explaining that after death, the hearts of many popes are removed and taken to another cathedral in rome.

out of 265 popes, nearly 200 have had their hearts cut out and taken to this other church. is this wierd enough?

when matt lauer enquired if that weren't illegal, the prelate replied, "....not in the vatican." i guess they have the ...

hello friends... while we e mail now i'm sharing a conversation i just had--

lina05...lover of colombia, despot, or problem child

I’m not exactly sure why or more specifically how to address this post.
It appears to me that since you use the word with such frequency addressing me and others that we should examine it…nay, we should apply it to you, since it so frequently leaves your mouth.

Since your original post “IN YOUR TRAVELS TO COLOMBIA, DON’T FORGET TO… I have been taken by your zeal…at least in the beginning…to support honorable charitable activities in Colombia. Too, I, like ...

i have to hand it to you, friend, you put up with 'mucha lucha' just to give folks a 'free' place to play. then with that said you still have to stave off the bull shit just to keep the site going.

sorry for the flack you need to fend off. and thanks for what you provide for all us engrates. the all of us, the elmos, old gringos, tintos, desis, GIB, et al. thanks from all of us and please keep up your very impressive good works.

colombians and bathing....

recently, there was a thread was a thread which got off on hygene. i think it was by londonmale.

well, the subject of bathing came in and i commented that in my experience, the colombians in my family bathe daily, as do i, a gringo. rare exceptions might occur.

well, as i posted in a plea to elmo yesterday, it's freezing here in florida, this a.m. 23 degrees. and what!? i walk into the bathroom and my wife is taking her typical cold water shower.

...

where the hell is elmo....it's cold as hell here

man, i can't believe this weather.

unfortunately i'm in exile in daytona the dull (daytona beach, florida) and it's droppin down to the low 20's tonight and wind chills into the teens. for the love of GOD! this should be illegal, i mean, florida is beaches and palm trees and it's frickin freezing...below freezing. and i'm in florida. what about you brothers who've posted having to dig outta the damn snow up in the northeast...and i'm complaining? help.

MORE ABOUT PISTACIOS

tinto, i read your post and feel you should difinitely bring the pistacios to colombia and share the wealth and for a reversal...addict some of them to something.

for years, i was amazed that there were no pistacios in colombia. i had often considered the posibility of starting a bosque. but....

in 1997, i finally brought the first pistacio seeds to colombia--to my knowledge--and gave them to a chemist friend of mine with a finca in barbosa.

peter, i guess this one's for you. happy holidays, by the way.

is there some way one can go from making a comment back to the lists of posts--where one left off--without backing up page by page to get there? with my computer--not jet assisted--it takes forever. and if i go to 'discussions' then i have to go all the way around the block, again, just to bet back to where i started.

CHRISTMAS TIME IN MEDELLIN AND THERE ABOUTS

were comin up on christmas and for those of you who live in medellin and for those who are familiar with christmas there, all will agree, it's just wonderful.

unlike the u.s., they carry on the celebration on into february, whereas here, the 26th of december, the lights come down and it's all piled by the curb as trash???

well, for those of you who find yourselves in medellin over the holidays, may i suggest a visit to por venir. it's on the edge of rio negro on th ...

YO, HUNTER

i have a friend--a chap i met on line, i think on cali gringo--his name is paul (?) and he's an englishman who was living, i believe, in oregon, but is now in medellin.

the last e i got from him, he asked if i had your e address. unfortunately, i lost it when i had to reinstall my system. he says he has chatted with you and would like to get in touch with you. here's his e address: ------- [moderator: Please don't publish other people's email addresses on the web.]

YO, PAUL, ARE YOU BACK IN MEDELLIN?

haven't heard back from you and wondered if you were nestled back in medellin.

i sure do envy your trip to llano grande, i dream daily when i can return and visit with my friends. you told me you met carlos, did you meet any of the others? did you get to gualanday. in my opinion, it's the grooviest 'centro de commercio' in all of colombia. it's quaint, wooded, lots of artists, writers and culturally oriented colombians. too, the pizza parlor is the best. there's a fireplace ...
