dwmte comments on cocaine

blame??? who´´s to blame? everybody has their wants/needs, likes/dislikes, etc. myself, i never liked the perico in my nose, never. when i had fabricas here in the late 80´s amd early 90´s i bought it from the kids in the street in poblado at the corner of cl.9 and oriental (ave poblado) i would just stick my finger in the powder and eat it. i had to cover over a hundred miles a day and deal with 12 tallers and about 60 to 70 employees. the ´´blow´´ was like a stout cup of coffee, without congesting my nose and i could sleep when i wanted.

kat...as for smoking, ´´blow´´ for smoking, has been cleaned of alien substance and is for the most part, pure. it´´s called free base or crack. and as for the raspachinas, they know. they clean the paste with diesel or gasoline. not so very tasty. in the earlier days when pablo was still about, around poblado and up by the represa near retiro, he had a pizza parlor and a couple of buildings there and in those days you could get ether-cleaned blow. now that´´s something to hawk about. clean, pure and incredible. it comes as now surprise that the indigena of centuries past treated the coca as a gift divine. they still do.

in my modest aged opinion, anything made and put here by GOD, is good. no exceptions. GOD didn´´t make no trash. si o no?

wish we could all get together. my wife and daughter stay down the hill in envigado and i stay up the hill in los llanos. mucho mejor and mas calma, cierto? no alli buja (sp) noise... i leave the cities and bars/clubs to the fast laners and youth. give me calm and tranquilidad, poco guaro, a splif or linea, or? y soy muy bien.

i´m way to old to be young and way to damn young to be so old, so the lament is, que acer? las cosas de joventude, o de los viejos? nah! alguna punto dientro los dos...si o no?

dwmte comments on something to consider..

gotta confess..... colombian weed sucks. period. they talk and jive about their punto rojo and go on and on about how strong/special it is. it's all malarky. OR...they never smoked anything from humbolt, maui, et al.

an attorney friend of mine in calif where i grew up, grew smoke for 25 years until he was taken by a tumor. every two years he went to the convention in copenhagen (?). he was there since the beginning of this suare'. he knew all the other major world growers and was responsible for the development of the 'world strain'. it used to be called "911"...now it's called "train wreck".

well, back to the story. to confuse anything grown in colombia--with all due respect to the country and it's folk--with real sinsemilla is like confusing a turd with a hot dog. my friends in poblado years ago used to think themselves connoisseurs of of fine things used to try and get me to smoke with them and i told them i don't smoke much anymore as it gives me 'dead head' and i can't get my work done. i also told them, 'trust me, i've smoked my share of killer weed. then they'ld get off pm their story about punto rojo being the strongest weed on the planet. without trying it i told them...i doubt that.

well, this went on for about a year and a half and finally one night partying with my poblado friends i gave in to their begging and decided to try their weed. one buddy actually had the gaul to say, 'you better sid down...this stuff will knock you on your ass.'
i just looked at him, thinking, 'you gotta be kidding me.'

well, when the 'J' got passed around to me, all eyes were on me...i took a toke, then another, and another...then i said..'this is your all mighty punto rojo? the colombian killer weed?' dudes, if this is all you got, you're in trouble, this is like mexican regular. hardly killer weed like we californians are accustomed to. i really felt sorry for them. they really thought it was dynamite. pity.

i hadn't seen a seed in smoke for 15 or 20 years before going to colombia the first time. i don't think i ever saw smoke there without seeds. what more can i say?

miguel... when bush, senior called in the national guard...thousands of them, it was three days before they got bullets! believe that...it's like the showing after katrina. when they finally got bullets, the shots rang out and about 20 people were shot that morning, many deaths. that was all it took to bring the meyhem to an end. that day, the burning and looting came to a screeching halt. the troops had orders to shoot to kill...period. however, for the previous 10-12 days it was absolute lawlessness. like i mentioned in the previous comment, above. doing business in L.A. was dreams ville for years until this crap went down. after that, things changed. we closed the store and moved back up to the san juaquin valley where i grew up and opened a country store. it was very successful, but drop one of the zeros in the monthly sales...down from 50 grand to 5 grand!

pottery....yes, ceramica. the nice thing about the terra cotta (barro rojo) is that it's done in a 'raku' technique, used a lot in japan. as a result you can see the high fire marks on the resulting materas.

yo, miguel.... regards to an 'angelino'.

south central? hardly. i was at the corner of melrose place, melrose and orlando. the best of the best.

i don't know if you were there during the fued, but lawlessness soon became the order of the day. no cops on the streets for about 10 days. if you went into a bar/club, just about anywhere in the civilized area...west hollywood, b.hills, santa monica, malibu, etc., everybody was packin. guns everywhere, a bit like the wild west. but it just put the breaks on business. no one was shopping, especially since you could get car-jacked on rodeo drive! and having to pay $6,000.00 a month rent, plus employees, ins. and all the rest of the expenses, it was a $10,000.00 a month nut to crack. if i wasn't bringing in $40 to $60 K a month, i was working in the red.

it was great when it was great, but after the rodney show, the curtains closed. it was like my partner said, "this was fun while it was fun, but it ain't fun anymore. we had a license to print money here for 20 years...now it'll be twenty years before it recovers." we kept the store open 'til the end of the year to take advantage of christmas, but after the first of the year, we closed the door and called it a day.

i love L.A.

dw

dwmte comments on Últimos éxitos PBH "Indeed, Typical PBH Distortions"

thanks to the cops who beat the lips off rodney... i lost a business--a profitable one--of twwnty years to the riots. a real drag. as a result of the riots, the L.A. police changed the motto on their cars from: 'to protect and to serve' to: 'we'll make you king for a day'.

i need a bit of clarity, i talked to my friend in bogota, bob summers and he said it's shirt sleve weather like medellin. now you show pics like it's the altaplano, with snow caps.

i can't make it everywhere, as it's a mixture of business and pleasure. i'm researching the pottery and the stone carving. too, i'm traveling with my thirteen-year-old daughter who's not really experienced in 'roughing it'. so i need to keep it somewhat civilized.

does anyone know where they make the stone fountains and balastrades?

since her father proferred this issue... and now it's on the table, you should feel perfectly in your rights to ask him to spell it ALL out. don't settle for the two step shuffle. you need the facts. i don't know where you are in colombia, but when something of this nature arises, you need legal counsel (your's, not their's) and the issue has to be made as clear as glass.

i know a very trustworthy attorney in medellin, who's brother is a judge. they share an office in envigado. would be glad to help if necessary.

dwmte comments on Will This Become Another Dumb Movie on Colombia?

you're right about the two factions of islam... the shias were led by ali, son in law of mohammed, married to his daughter, fatima.

the sunnis, were led by abubekhr the first/top diciple of mohammed.

the differences on the surface seem insignificant, but serious thought on the subject will show that the differences are quite profound.

put simply, the shias, believe that all is from GOD. the sunnis, contrarily, believe that all IS GOD. a difference seemingly small, is in it's final outcome highly profound.

the majority of the deepest thought in islam is from the sunnis. as wit, the likes of shibli (abubekhr) shams tabriz, rumi, et al. not to be shortchanged, the shias have produced such luminaries as hafiz, saadi, attar (read 'the conference of the birds')et al.

however, in days of late, it is the sunnis who have perpetrated far more violence and mayhem than their brothers the shias. the wahabis (those of knosis) are without a doubt the most intolerant bunch of louts living amongst man. their first conclusion in virtually all situations is use violence first; if that doesn't work, use more! the shias are not quite so hot headed.

i read in some on line post that somewhere between 5 and 10% of the world's gross domestic product was being spent directly or indirectly on dealing with islamic terrorism. pity.one would think that men and women would far prefer raising, teaching, loving, and cherishing their children, rather than burying them. si o no?

hell, buddy.... the best shrink i ever met lives between the ears...or there abouts.

like the prophet said...take up the REAL jihad against the enemy in your heart.

says a lot about all the horseshit bandied about by wanna be jihadists, doesn't it. i saw a blog some time back that in the last 5 yrs, there have been in excess of 10,000 islamic terrorist attacks where in, in excess of 70% of the victims were islamics. wow!

would that the leaders of this nonsense would teach planting flowers, cleaning up communities and yards (i wonder if islamics ever look around and see just how 'fucked' their world really is?) they might stop persecuting their women and act--even if only remotely--like the prophet, with compassion, forgiveness, love, etc.

just another day in suck city for folks having the horrible fate of living (if it can be called that) in the moslem world. as you know, i'm not anti-moslem, i think you know that. on the contrary, i'm anti asshole. these folks somehow think that martyrs (that's a synonym for murderer) are going to heaven and gonna hang out with 70 virgins. what a laugh. too, that the honor killing of women who have been victims of rape is a sign of real manhood. now there's an oxymoron if i ever saw one.

hey, brother, how the fuck did i get off on this drool? must be heavy on my mind. i'm tired of waking up daily hearing how the religious devout have bombed a school, killed women and children and once again, missed a chance to miss a chance. shit, this could go on for the whole day and i'd never get the worst of it off my chest.

i'm gonna visit my shrink...

town? what town? i was in the mountains, had a bar and a restaurant but unfortunately, it was a period in colombian history a few years back when there was absolutely no business. businesses were folding daily, govt employees weren't being paid and just about everyone was in a world of hurt.

i looked at the situation of the campasino families and wondered how i could add a little something to their quite bleak lives and decided on the teaching. all too often, the rich came and asked why i taught the poor kids free and charged the rich kids. as if i could give an answer these rich flakes would understand. you'll have to take my word for it, but i got a lot of heat for this. i mean a lot of heat. real bad vibes from the landed class and their gigantic egos.

thanks, gator.... i really do appreciate it. can't wait to get there. in all the years i worked around the world, i NEVER was a tourist. i never went to see the sights in the countries i found myself in. this is true of colombia as well. i know well the surrounds of medellin and cartagena, but outside of that, zip. it's a bloody shame in some ways, but i was always a workaholic and just kept my nose to the grindstone and in so doing, stayed out of trouble. i was in some way violent places but with just a few exceptions, i never had trouble...this applies as well to colombia. i've been in some way dangerous places there as well but no problems.

can't wait to see boyaca...although, once again, it's a lot to do with business, now, finally, maybe i and laura can be a bit the tourist and enjoy it.

dwmte comments on Community Service in Colombia

i had the great fortune... of being aboe to give to the less fortunate in colombia on our last stay there a couple of years ago.

for crazy reasons, my wife and i were separated...she staying with the family in envigado and myself living in the hinterlands of llano grande. i noticed the huge divide between the have's and the have nots. it was visible to the common eye. it was a situation where the have's had everything, and the have nots, basically nothing. they lived on the fincas of the rich and did their bidding and to eat, they grew their food.

the rich sent their kids to private schools and had private tutors as well. i finally started teaching english to the children of the campesino--free--and although i negatively effected my relation with the landed class, i received such love and respect from the poorer families. many of these families were 'farm hands' during the day and dawned camo at night to do the work of the eln. teaching their kids had the side effect of actually serving as a life insurance policy for me, as everyone spoke well of that 'crazy gringo living alone in the mtns'. the pay/reward was far greater than any monetary reimbursement i might have received. in fact, i was invited to teach at eafit but declined.

just an aside, the mothers of the kids used to cook me food and bring it to me as they knew i had no money. love em.

dwmte comments on Spoiled rotten in Cali

thanks, desi... it was nice to hear about the distruction that disguises itself as development. it's the same in medellin. although there are countless folks who would disagree with me. they somehow think that the looming condo towers, like bosques of cement represent progress?? for me, give me that old casa fincas that used to line the mountain sides which have been replaced by soul-less cement tombstones that most think of as habitation. not to deny progress, i just lament that which has been lost and not replaced with something better.

all the chagrin aside, none of this will really matter as we spend our time with family and friends, both in town and up country in the finca. our hearts and minds will relax from the dull and ordinary that fills our lives here in florida. there will be much eating, a bit of drinking and a whole lot of hugs and visiting.

all the best to you and your family.

ps beat those kids and remind them that what they find in europe is bleak compared to what they experience in colombia...

dwmte comments on Indeed, Typical PBH Distortions

point well made, marcos... i think that one needs to see both sides of this issue CLEARLY; it's is imparative for a long life to make judicious decisions all along the way. failure to do so can mean calamity...often for simply not using common sense. too, 'danger zones' exist everywhere, in all countries and surprises do occur, even in the most unexpected times and locals.

then, being aware of potential dangers, although prudent, can take itself to literally unnecessary extremes wherein the 'thinker' is rendered paranoid of life itself.

we just need to be ever alert, even at home, and don't be driven by fear through life, but guided by common sense and a good measure of caution.

dwmte comments on Arrest of foreigners and legal issues

you might say i know the colombian legal system... from the inside out... i spent the night in a d.a.s. slam in belen and trust me, the above observations are basically true...re the arresting officer and what transpires in the beginning. this, regardless the truth or falsity of the issue.

to be short, i would suggest that anyone finding themselves in this or any similar circumstance, think of the arresting and commanding officers as your very best/oldest friend. i also might add, that being forwarned is being forarmed; don't forget it.

HOLY MOLY! aqui ahi mucha lucha... i hope we've heard the fin of the closing arguments.

now back to some serious musicology...

i asked once before if someone knew who sang a salsa song which contained the main refrain..."salsa con papa" i got a lot of replies, all of which told me it wasn't 'salsa con papa'. a conclusion i fail to support. it was the drivenest, strongest, greatest salsa song i've ever heard and they repeated the phrase so many times i can't believe i'm wrong. now don't get me wrong, it's not like i've never been wrong before, hardly... to portray that would be a total aside of the truth...nay, a demonstration of the contrary. but that's not the issue.

whine, moan, yawn, criticize, ridicule, negate, hate, disagree.. woopie...i know i'm on pbh. by now we should all be on the same page and the truth (or at least the one i believe) is that there's more than enough crime and problems in colombia to satisfy anyone...the naysayers and the promotors who deny... whichever, it's an absolutely marvelous country full of gracious, hospitible, loving, caring, sharing souls...not to mention an asshole or two and a fist full of corrupt politicians and their corrupt adversaries, the farc, eln and carlos costeno's buddies. so f****** what!

by the time my ass landed in colombia, 18 or 19 years ago, i had lived and worked for years all over the middle east, india, africa, europe, mexico and central america. i can only share MY experience, but when i finally got to medellin, pablo was alive and well and bombing, killing, kidnapping and trafficking as anygood bad guy should do/would do. that didn't change my opinion at all. it along with los angeles, was the greatest fricken place i'd ever been. sure, there were killings and sequestros...some right in front of me, close enough to touch. but that didn't change my feelings for the place and it still doesn't. i love it. sure, medellin now, in comparison to years ago, is a tourist trap. but it's still one of the greatest places this poor tortured planet has to offer.

common, friends, all of you, give the gal a break and a boost. give her what she needs...LOVE. it is the only medicine that doesn't need to promise anything. it works, it heals, and if applied with a true and faithful heart, it can ultimately change those aspects which we all see as the 'taints' in colombia to something better. just remember, life aint about "good" and "bad" but rather about degrees of good.

dwmte comments on personale effects to colombia

capt bill.............. i've probably had as much experience as anyone moving containers into and out of colombia...except for large manufacturers. i've shipped 20' and 40' out of buena ventura and cartagena both to miami and los angeles. on several occassions, they were only personal effects.

unfortunately, it's been seven years since my last movement, but i really can't imagine anything monumental happening in that time...at least not in favor of the shipper. my experienced advise is 'buyer beware'. you can contact your nearest colombian consulate and they will give you info on what can and cannot be shipped duty free. the problem is they'll never commit that to a written statement, rather just some 'advise' from them.

i don't know if you have colombian family--i do-- and this does make some differences if you've been out to the country a certain amount of time, etc. however, this should not be thought of as favorable to the colombian national...it's not. they get gouged as badly as anyone else.

what happens is you just bend over when your container comes into port and wait for them to take what they want and bill you for what they want to and you pay the bill in the END. there really is no rhyme or reason to the whole thing. it's just the way it works (or doesn't work as the case may be). THEN...when you move your goods out of port forwarding them to medellin, get ready for the next pain in the ass. YOU MUST DEMAND THAT THE GOODS BE MOVED "IN BOND" TO MEDELLIN...that being under lock and key without the driver having a key. he/they will tell you they need a key just in case they're inspected along the way. this is pure bullshit. he has a customs sealed container or closed truck (locked and sealed) and copies of the documents of entrance from the aduana (customs) THAT'S ALL HE NEEDS. PERIOD.

if you have problems with this go to the customs office in cartagena and demand to see the director and demand that the goods be moved "in bond" to their destination. he will support you.

good luck.

dwmte comments on being married to a colombian women

friends... there are NO secrets to successful relationships. the clue lies in taking the 'pick, shovel and drill' to our hearts and removing the rubble that conceals us, from ourselves. as long as we are not visible to ourselves, others are not visible to us either. to 'see' we must clean the mirror (heart).

we are the problem. fix the problem, we clarify the issue. i am living testimony of the truth of all this. i wont labor the issue by repeating it here, i've spoken of it in other threads and personally find it's repetition boring...probably because it reveals a me i should have worked on many years ago.

when we have truly went to work on ourselves and taken action on those painful discoveries, our vision begins to correct itself, our affairs begin to fall into place and the truth and reality of others becomes clear and apparent. just as our deeper self has to us.

e.e. cummings once wrote about a young girl looking in the mirror at herself and seeing things unclearly that she, 'was just lying to herself'; something i fear we all do...all too frequently, if not constantly.

age has made me more capable to withstand the view. and i believe that in so doing, it has made the view (reflection) far more tolerable to others...rather than the other way around.

colombiana, nigeriana, norwegiana, et al...they're all the same. they are humans/women and cannot give that which they do not receive. for it is in the give and take that the reality of both clarifies itself and becomes a workable venue that both may draw upon to heal themselves....'they' being you and me.

i wish you all better luck than i have had in many a relationship, as i was just too damn dumb/egotistical/freightened to set about the task of healing myself.

it is my sincere and deep belief that a faithful, caring, loving mate is no further away than our (mutual) real self. it just takes a sincere desire to set about removing the rubbish we have piled up believing so erroneously to be ourself.

adamin... can't tell you a thing about santa marta, but personally, i wouldn't go to cartagena for beaches. they're dirty, overcrowded and hustlers abound. go for the old city and like the poster said above, the architecture.

enjoy your trip.

dwmte comments on where can I buy a coca plant?

yo, sacko... try looking around town in people's yards. it's commonly used as a decorative plant in gardens around colombia. needless to say, it's not uncommon.

dwmte comments on Help With Medellin Nightlife!

yo, viking.. i don't know your club yet....but coming up soon, my friend, i will.

don't let the wannabes get you down. parke lleras was a dud 10-12 years ago...it's not getting better.

the best place in all of medellin was a place called la casa de los cinco puertos. it was by the creek/river in poblado by lleras. they mowed it down to do what developers do. "it takes paradise to put up a parking lot."

well, we'll have our own party and i'll take you downtown and show you one you'll never forget..
