Dolfi comments on I took Ecuador Critizising Uribe doesn´t mean siding against Colombia, as well as critizising Bush and his government doesn´t mean sidng against the USA. More than 70% of americans do that actually.

Dolfi comments on Colombia arrests 15 soldiers for peasant killings "and guess what,, some folks are going to die,, that’s life,, As long as it isn´t you ore anyone of your loved ones. What an ignorant attitude,

Dolfi comments on What is A Paramiltitary Group? Armed groups hired by the rich to opress and kill peasants, unionsts and anything that looks the smallest bit left from the most extreme fascist right is a common fact of colombian history since independence. I don´t think that you can call that selfdefense.

Dolfi comments on PLEASE DO NOT INSULT OUR INTELLIGENCE (MY ENGLISH TRANSLATION In one of his books Germán Castro Caycedo writes about the fate of a doctor from cali who was captured by the FARC. When he asks them, why they cjose him, they tell him thtat it is because he is rich. When he replies, thta he doesn´t even own a house one Guerillero replies:
Episodios de la Guerra en Colombia, Bogotá 2001, P. 16 As long as these condition remain for a large part of the colombian people, there will be an armed conflict. I don´t see that uribe´s policies do anything to change that.

Dolfi comments on Hugo Chavez: Baywatch, SI! Los Simpsons, NO! Both programs are stupid and boaring; even venezuelan novelas are better.

The text ist absolutely correct, with the entire continent trying to get more independent from the USA and US dominated international institutions. Colombia is the only major US ally in Southamerica,
Dolfi comments on What Is Chavez Plan? As far as I see Chavez is trying to weaken US influence (and influence of american dominated international institutions like the Worldbank and the IMF) on the continent. In order to do this he is trying to convince the nations to cooperate more among themselves and to coordinate their policies. Not a bad idea at all.

Dolfi comments on What I have learned about Medellin(g) today: Too many gringos and europeans in Medellín? Do you ever leave El Poblado? I never met any foreigners in the centro or in Bello, where my wives familiy lives. The only place to meet them seems to be Poblado.

Dolfi comments on The FARC; Wanted DEAD or Alive..... Would be nice to have such a map of the bosses of the Paracos.

That´s not a good comparison, there ist no cultural difference between Colombia and its neighbours as between jewish/western Israel and it´s arab/muslim neighbours. The only difference is that Colombia is the only US ally in the region, and that may change one day.

No, not all of them, sure. By the way, was something like that ever offered to the guerilleros?
Dolfi comments on Chavez seeks alliance. Anyway we will see more cooperation among southamerican countries in the near future. It´s not just Chavez, Argentina and (to a lesser extent) brasil are also joining in. This will make the continent less dependent on US dominated international institutions like the IMF and the WTO. A good thing for the people of Southamerica.
My brother in law told me that most of these socalled "Ex Paramilitares" never where paras in the first place, they are all in it for the money and support that Uribes government ist offering.

Dolfi comments on tirofijo tiene cancer / tirofijo has cancer If you are looking at the results of elections in prewar Germany, you see that Hitler never had a majority. The best result of his party, the NSDAP, was 43,9%, he came to power in a coalition with the traditional right (people like Bush and his buddies). Of course he kicked all their asses and there never again was an election in Germany till the end of the war. These results are also revealing if you look at them: NSDAP is skyrocketing vom 1930 on, after the big crash on Wallstreet in the USA, which strongly affected Europe and led to a big rise in unemployment. http://www.dhm.de/lemo/objekte/statistik/waaaa3/index.html

Dolfi comments on No mas FARC It is indeed surprising how one may put up a petition about the conflict in Colombia without mentioning the paramilitaries at all. An the colombian army which is also killing civilians from time to time.

Dolfi comments on Chavez warned of 'river of blood' The whole world didn´t like the way you responded to 9/11, didn´t you notice that yet? Attacking a country that hadn´t anything to to with it and sparing your Saudi friends (15 of the 19 Terrorists of 9/11 where Saudis, not one Iraqi). And you shouldn´t have any illusion about what people in Colombia think about americans. It´s just this extremely arrogant and rude attitude you are showing that makes you unpopular all over the world. Go on, send your military to Venezuela, another catastrophe for the USA guaranteed. But before that you will have to pay in Euros for your petrol, real money that is, so will have to earn it instead of printing like you did. http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul358.html
Dolfi comments on Destination Choco Best to take a plane to Turbo and continue by lancha, wherever you want to go.

Dolfi comments on Chavez warned of 'river of blood' Go on and send your military to Venezuela, another Iraq is guaranteed.

Dolfi comments on Avianca to resume flights from London and Frankfurt! When we where looking for a flight to Colombia earlier this year I saw that American Airlines is about 150 € cheaper than the other companies, but I was told that my colombian wife would need a visa even to change plane in Miami (without leaving the airport). So I phoned the US embassy in berlin and they confirmed that this was true. The visa costs 80 € and one has to got to the embassy in Berlin for an interview. That makes about 200 € all in all (including trip to Berlin and back). So we are going with Air France via Paris. Kiss my arse, USA

Dolfi comments on Chavez to freeze relations with Colombia It looks to me as if Uribe is desperatly afraid of a big success for Chavez. Imagine Mrs. Betancourt handed over to Chavez by the Farc and flying to Paris from Caracas the same day. That would make Uribe look not too cool.

Dolfi comments on This Guy on Yahoo Answers want to come to Colombia and date 14 year olds. There are probably some 13 year old girls who have boobs and menstruate, or even some 12 year old...what about them, fair game too? And maybe those 14 year olds aren´t mentally fit to have sex? A line has to be drawn somewhere to protect children from abuse, it maybe subject to discussion, but it is necessary. Morover the fact that those pedophiles allways go to som poor thrid world conutries to fulfill their needs doesn´t make them more appealing to me.

Dolfi comments on Chavez wants to ban mini skirts Still no evidence for this alleged ban in Venezuela apart from that one notice in an argentinain paper. As far as I know it is a generally accepted principle of discussion, that anybody putting forth a proposition (with a claim to truth) has to provide evidence for it. One should disregard the whole sutff as it is not worth any discussion. It is revealing though how much americans take anything for true that fits into their ideological scheme of things. We now that e.g. from tha WMDs in Iraq.
Dolfi comments on Chavez wants to ban mini skirts As far as I see Yahoo has taken this information from an argentinian paper which publishes it without giving any sources for these alleged plans of Chavez. Could it be a commentary of the editor? There´s nothing to be found in any serious media about banning mini skirts in a constitution. The whole idea seems ridicilous to me. Sounds very much like anti Chavez propaganda.

Dolfi comments on French Visa A schengen visa is valid for all memeber countries of the schengen treaty, wherever you get it. For example my wife and I travelled to Spain with her german visa without any problem. England ist not a member of schengen yet, though.

Dolfi comments on Socialist Revolution in Colombia It would allready be great if the rich started to pay taxes in Colombia, and if the government would take the interests of the majority more into consideration, no revolution necessary.
Dolfi comments on Interesting: Natalia Paris talks about narcos and good families relationship in Medellin The rich don´t have any problems to do business with gangsters anwhere in the world, as they are above the law in many cases.

Dolfi comments on Luggage form Medellín to Europe Thanks for the comments, but that doesn´t really help me. I thought more about some trustworthy company in Medellín that does international transports.

Dolfi comments on Oppemheimer Report; Latin America's Wealthy Should be More Generous It would allready be a big progress if the rich in Southamerica started to pay their taxes.

Dolfi comments on Middle class Colombians and their great love for all that’s American. The growing presence of English is a general phenomenon all over the world, and I think it is not a bad thing in tiself. It makes sense to have a language that is understood by most people in the world, as latin used to be in roman times.
Dolfi comments on Sen. Petro criticizes FARC, FARC responds, the Pole shakes... Nobody who reads this thread should wonder any longer why americans are disliked in most parts of the world.

Dolfi comments on Been in Venezuela for a month now, and still can't get Colombia off my mind... I remember passing through El Tigre by bus, didn´t impress me much, there certainly are more attractive places in Venezuela. But that was 15 years ago, maybe it has changed now. I agree to what has been said about the two countries, Colombia is somewhat better organized and people are more serious. An women have more style. Venzeolanas dress like hooker (if you ask me).

Dolfi comments on Top Cities in South America (According to Yahoo) I never understood what people find so great about Buneos Aires. It´s just lik any big citiy in Italy, only with people speaking spanish.
Dolfi comments on What is it with Colombians in the US? The same is true about many latinos in Europe, psychologically quite understandable. They are not leaving home because they don´t like the weather or the food or the people, but because of the economic possibilities.

Dolfi comments on NY Times article on Medellin Wher ist the "beautiful colonial architecture" in Medellín? I didn´t see any of it.

Dolfi comments on My wife told me that when she was talking to her classmates in college (in Medellín) they all agreed that they wanted to marry a gringo later.
Dolfi comments on U.S. abandons Colombia I´m sure most colombians would apreciate a cuban doctor in their barrio giving them free medical treatment or a school where they can learn to read and write for free. As it happens in Venezuela.
Dolfi comments on I can understand this very well. During my three trips to Colombia inthe last years I didn´t hear anybody there say one good word about Uribe. To most people it´s about a fact that he is the boss of the Paracos.
Dolfi comments on mexico city? I´ve been to MC twice, last time was two years ago. It is a city that has a lot to offer, the Anthropological museum ist impressive, The house of Frida Kahlo is a beautiful place (and the surrounding Barrio of Coyoacan too), the place where Leo Trotzki lived and was killed in 1930 is very interesting, food can be very good and isn´t expensive. The people are generally friendly when you speak to them in spanish. Traffic ist terrible though, and I wouldn´t go aout at night on my own as a gringo. But still a very good place to visit for a few days.
