docwilliam comments on Getting away with it Hi dw, what I was told, unofficially of course, was that the fine would be the same whether you are 1 day over or yrs later (unless they come out with new rates). I believe staying out of trouble plays a big role also.

docwilliam comments on Colombianos en Estados Unidos I here you Kat.... I did everything but beg my son, not to enlist in the Army. He is 18, ten times smarter than I was at his age. He has a free ride with most Universities, in the U.S. (not the big ones though). I tried to at least convince him to go through the University and become an Officer, but no dice. He Graduated when he was 17, so once he turned 18 (and was moved out of the house) I had to let him go.......

docwilliam comments on Driver's license I learned something first hand this week.....The cops on the scene are as honest as there superviser (CPT). The guy on the street with the 4 gold necklaces and a newer car, that makes 6000. COP a year will prob take the $$$. IF the dude running the crew is honest, you may be in trouble for the offer. And YES, there are honest cops out there. * I was just joking about "the tip".

I have both of my kids in school, in Colombia and we all have tourista visas. As someone else, on this site once mentioned "most things in Central and South America are negotiable"

If the FARC is rich, from drug trafficking and hostage taking, why do they have to get a loan for $300.00 Million USD? What am I missing here?

docwilliam comments on Driver's license I visited with the National Police, a few days ago...They said my Kentucky drivers license was good here (in Colombia). There is an international agreement that only requires that you have your license interpreted in Spanish. I believe AAA is authorized to do it. But like I said, the po po told me my KY was OK. At the bike shop, I was told that you purchase a cycle license, no exam. Dont know if that is true though.

docwilliam comments on 60 minutes Good point MM--- the one I have watched over the last 10 years is this "raise the taxes for Education" lie. Every year schools are crying about not having money for the teachers and the schools. The teachers Union fight tooth and nail and get the politions to vote in 100% school tax increases and then the next year its the same dann thing all over again. And being that i have had 5 kids in the school system i have mucho contact with teachers and they complain about the $$$ never making it to them or the schools, so where the hell is the $$$ going every year and why are my taxes being increased by the teacher unions and the Democrats "who are the heros of education"? Can anyone here tell me how many of their bills have school taxes attached to them? By the way MM, dont want to give you the wrong impression. I believe all Lawer/Politicos' are crooks! Does not matter what the party. I have been around these people long enough to here what they have to say (unofficially). This includes the trial Lawers. They do not give a dann about anyone but themselves.

Not to mention the millions of dollars that the unions donate to the Democrats every year (Which comes back around as wasteful union contracts for the US Government). Democrats caring about Colombia or how US tax dollars are spent......they have run the house and Senate for how long now? They were sopposed to have fixed all of Americas problems and what have they done? I mean, what are they waiting for? These loosers have a lower approval rating than Bush. But yes, looks a bit strange to me because I have owned a Suburban Z71 with the same engine. all the same to me though, its a good choice that will be dependable. What did the truck have? The 5.0L pushrod engine?

I remember 60 min. running a story, back when Bill Clinton was President and they showed Airforce One in Israel. You see Bill C. clearing the doorway of AF1 and right behind him is the president of Chiquita Bananas ?????? They showed that this dude makes extremely large contributions to both the Democratic party and the Republican party! So..funding FARC? hey, why not, he payes everyone else off.

(Hugo Carvajal and another Venezuelan general "are going to get us 20 bazookas next week.")- I thought this part was a bit strange though......"bazookas" who uses them things anymore? The Russian RPG would seem to be the delivery system of choice.

docwilliam comments on U.S. base is no longer welcome in Ecuador That is hard to say (for me anyways) but the way I look at it is; The war on drugs is OUR WAR (USA), not someone elses war. Colombia is working with the US on our WAR ON DRUGS. If other countries do not willingly assist, we have no business pushing ourselves on them to support OUR WAR ON DRUGS. So I feel that if we have no host country that welcomes this base, the cost of the carrier fleet is on our tax and spend list. That is a bill we must pay until the war is over (never) or a better solution is found. Good question CG

And I do not believe we are needed in Colombia (mil. base) just pick it up in a country that will welcome the $$$. If know one welcomes the $$$, run the operations off of a Naval Flight deck. Stay away from the Governments who hold hostilities.

docwilliam comments on Safety of Cartagena-Medellin and Medellin-Pereira buses? I have an American news article, in my phota album that states that South Korea is the most dangerous place to drive. It was based off of fatality stats. (I saved the article because i was driving in that country at the time). I cannot give a ref. to the article because i left that photo album behind. sorry. By the way....the only cars in South Korea that do not have scuff marks, on all 4 corners, are brand new cars. hahahaha, its true.
