docbaker comments on I know what you mean...to be honest this will be my first "official" visit to the UK. but I have been watching the prices. December is always more expensive no matter where you go. When I go home to the States I have to do the Miami shuffle so I know it is a pain in the ass. I hope you find the cheapest way.

docbaker comments on I found my flight on Avianca for this trip Bog-Mad-Bog for 3,156,00 cop. expensive yes but I was able to use miles to offset. The cheap part was the leg from Madrid to England. I think it is cheaper than Mia-Bog-Mia

docbaker comments on Yes coming back, I fly to madrid on the 5th then on to england on the 7th, seems they dont fly or there are no seats on saturday. I come back on the 13th.

docbaker comments on Is there a shopping clothes store like Comway or TJ Maxx in Bogota? Raquel, you know what I think about our "Capitalist Country" and I dont know what that has to do with your question. What I can tell you is yes you can find name brands here at the same price and sometimes cheaper than TJMax. In Bogota there are many places to find good deals.

docbaker comments on Help in Panama Your right on the Multa it is up to who ever is talking to you at the time. I have been here for 4 years on a Diplomatic visa that was good until 2009. now all of a sudden it is not good and all of this comes as I am in the middle of starting a business here. I have had to jump through some hoops this week because of all this. just a note: i was working for one of the schools here? little strange I think but, It is no problem. Overall DAS was pretty cool, I just have to do this trip to make everything legal.

docbaker comments on Do we speak the best Spanish in the World? look at the poster of this...alternative motive. anyone who has learned Spanish as a second language can tell you that the Colombian dialect of Spanish is the most consistent. As a Texan growing up with "Spanish" I can tell you that there are a lot of inconsistencies that apply especially when you compare with Spain. There is no comparison in day to day life. I have a Brother in law from Spain and I cant understand half of what he says. Castellano is another dialect of Spanish so if you claim to be a teacher of language. Please do your research.

docbaker comments on Weird thing to buy in weird places I was in Chapinero (Bogota) last week waiting on a bus when a guy comes running around the corner and offers to sell me a watch ( nice one) with the strap broken and fresh blood on it (still wet) he wanted three pesos for it. before I could say anything the guy beside me gave him dos mil and the guy took off. less than a minute later the police stroll around the same corner looking for the guy.

docbaker comments on I will back it up again also, they have been good to me. " the owner is a little weird " too funny!

docbaker comments on Electric Scooter wheel chair Yes most Airlines will accommodate. You will have to disconnect the battery before they will load it though. The chair should have come with a travel kit that has battery terminal covers.

docbaker comments on I have worked with them for about six months now and I have only the best to say about them. They have always gone the extra mile for the teachers. They only offer native speakers so, most are on limited time visas so the rotation is pretty constant. They have helped several with obtaining visas also. The only problem is most of the students want early morning classes so you are limited in the number of classes. They do try and give you as many hours as you can handle. And they have always paid on-time with no problems. Hope this helps.

docbaker comments on Need anything? This is the kind of thing that should be happening on here. I get so tired of all of the whining and shit. Yes...there are some things I would love to have that I miss. Copenhagen long cut, a whole roll. Lowrys seasoned salt and seasoned pepper, lemon pepper seasoning, Mcormick spicy montreal seasoning. Beef jerky...Ranch dressing...if you are serious let me know and I can give you the money before you go. docbaker at live.com

docbaker comments on Alternatives to Andres Del Carne Res? Pappasito I think you are right on the name, I need to get up there more often. Another favorite of mine is Museo De Tequilla, good Mexican food and every bottle of tequilla imaginable. Little pricy though.

docbaker comments on How to find houses in Bogota ? El Tiempo on Saturdays will give you the first crack. If you are looking to rent, take all of your papers with you when you go to look. good houses and apartments are very competitive but the price is almost always negotiable. If you are wanting them to add things like hot water, paint etc. Make sure it is in the contract before you sign. In my experience stay clear of the Inmobilarias, the paperwork is never ending and they jack the price up. there are plenty of people who are selling and renting directly.

docbaker comments on Alternatives to Andres Del Carne Res? Theres another place in La Calera...cant remember the name but I bet Bill knows. It has an awesome view and there is dancing after everyone has eaten.

docbaker comments on Travel with Colombian Girl friend? Mononoke, Does that mean she could fly to Panama, then take another flight to Mexico?
|
|
docbaker comments on Travel with Colombian Girl friend? I can tell you what I found out this past year...Panama is pretty easy as long as she has a Colombian passport. Mexico was a whole different story, It was just as difficult as going to the States. I had researched for a possible job transfer and Mexico was so much hassle I decided to stay here instead (Bogota) Good Luck!
