divina22 comments on Miami South Beach Waiter Doesn't Rank Colombians High On List As Good Tippers. LOL

LOL, this is so true!!! I had to give my Colombian hubby a lesson on tipping when he came here. Before, when I went to visit him in Medellin, he would go crazy when I gave the lady who delivered our ten course breakfast to the hotel room and 10,000 tip. I mean 5 bucks to us isn't anything but to them it's a whole hell of a lot. Then he would talk about it to all of his family the whole trip and they would think I was crazy too. So when he finally got here he understood and when we went back together for the first time during Semana Santa, he became a good tipper......

divina22 comments on Medellin vs. Bogota

I know it's late, and you've probably already moved but my experience with Bogota was cold as well. My hubby, a Paisa, and myself asked a guy onthe street where the closest bakery was and he looked at us and kept rigth on walking...... I only spent two days there but as far as medellin, where i have been numerous times, I can't sya enough about all of the people there.... it's amazing and somethign you don't see here in the U.S..... everyone calling each other hermano, parce..... a la orden, mi Dios le pague, such polite, God fearing people, I love it!!!!

divina22 comments on Any good websites to purchase soemthing and have it shipped within Colombia (Medellin).

This one was alrigth before, just went on and it's under construction...www.obsequioscolombia.com

divina22 comments on Presents for my Colombian Cousins

LOL, I brought my hubby PB once, and he hated it..... LOL since we;ve gone back, we';ve brought his cousins Playstaion 2's... they are much cheaper here in the U.S than over there...... and unlcoked cell phones, that's teh ticket, always bring a few of those back...... ipods too..... and lots of chocolates and candy....... especially those special edition hershey kisses.... YUMMY!!!! LOL

divina22 comments on Medellin Hotels?

I stayed at the Gran Hotel once, and it was okay... I mean, if you're used to staying at the Ritz, ain't nothing gonna satisfy you.... Also stayed at the Intercontinental but it wasn't all that, especially for the price. The room at the Gran Hotel was much bigger, the Nutibara wasn't that bad.. the breakfast buffet was good.. LOL I like to eat.... so any buffet is good... except for the all you can eat Chinese buffets..... those I stay away from......

divina22 comments on K1-Fiancess Visa -- Colombian Women-- Kiss It Goodbye

miamimike "For undocumented immigrants, marrying a Cuban with a green card can be their ticket to staying in the United States -- ""and even a better deal than marrying a U.S. citizen""". Non-Cubans married to U.S. citizens for less than two years obtain conditional residence, but those who marry Cubans with green cards can get permanent residence after a year." This is soooooo freaking true!!! My hubby and I just received his green card for two years, meanwhile, someone I know from Argentina married a cuban exile and automatically got a 10-year perm residency..... while my hubby marrying me, the U.S. Citizen, received two-year with conditions.... go figure.... someone once told me it was because the U.S. protects it's citizens and could care kless about th Cuban imm. but I don't get that....... besides it was my ex-hubby and he's surely full of it...... (though he married an Argentinian, and is in the same boat I am with a two-year res.)

divina22 comments on Send Used Camera From Miami?

Oops, I reply before I read all the way through. The courier I use is right down the street from the Colombian Consul in Coral Gables... I think everyone who visits the Consul uses this place for translations, notary, etc. They're very nice people:

Docurapid
ask for my main man, Jose Betancur, he's in charge of shipments 786-552-5011

divina22 comments on Send Used Camera From Miami?

I guess it depends on where you are... here in Miami, I use a trusted courier that delivers door to door to Colombia. I've sent all kinds of stuff, including a used camera, new perfumes, etc. They are cheap, reliable, and deliver fast. I mean cheap. Not like DHL that charges 30 for a letter.....

divina22 comments on Work in Miami

Yes, he can work However, we are still waiting for his SS card to arrive... and since it takes thirty days to arrive for a K-1'er... we have two more weeks to go. He was a Marketing/ Pulicist over there. He worked for his pueblo's newspaper and a University in Medellin as their designer/ publicist, and also did a bunch of freelance work.....graphic design, etc. Very talented and, yes, willing to do anything to pass time. I have contacted a few organizations for volunteer work. He already had an interview at a retial store in the Dolphin Mall. There are PLENTY of jobs around, he sees that and is very excited about that, but we're just missing that one important thing... that magical number. LOL... yes, I know that his K-1 visa, I-94 and SS# are his permissions to work, like I said just waiting for the latter......... anyway, his English is basic, he took a bunch of courses at Colombo before he came, and he just started at Gables High this week at level three, and also studies at home (we checked out some good books at the library)..... so he's slowly progressing..... thanks for all of your advice, I will continue on my track and check out Habitat too. My boss was on the BOD there and could probably get him in easy... will talk to him about that..... any other sugesstions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! You guys, as always, ROCK!!!!!!!

divina22 comments on SantaFe de Antioquia

I strongly suggest horseback riding. I believe there are two places to choose from, sorry I don't remember the name of the one I went to but it's a house with a nice pool in the back yard. Not too far from the plaza. It's a GREAT two hour tour through the river mountain area, etc. It was absolutley BREATHTAKING!!!!!! Tell the mototaxi guy to take you tehre and reserve at least a day in advance, you can even have them pick you up at the hotel (we stayed at the Robledo also)....

I woudl hook her up with my brother but he stll ives at home with my parents! LOL At least he's not an anti-social, non-drinking mormom...... but seriously, has anyone heard of someone coming over on a K-1 and staying beyond and getting married to someone else??? Is that even possible??? I guess anythign is possible!!! Anyone?

divina22 comments on the happy day will soon arrive!

If you can't be there... MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HER BRING EVERY FREAKING PIECE OF EVIDENCE.... My fiance was denied the first interview due to lack of evidence and there was a misscommunication because the CO thought when he said he didn't have any more evidence with him that he meant he had no more evidence at all and was flat out denied. I had to make several phone calls, send a couple of letters, and was finally given an appointment to come back. Of course, I had to make emergancy plans and head down there for two days in order to be there and brought tons of evidence (100 photos, 2,000+ e-mails) with me, which was a little exaggerated but when I spoke to the Supervisor, she said, good thing I had, our case was on her desk waiting for review to be sent back to the U.S... which would have delayed us possibly another 6 months+. If you can, make every effort to be there, especially beacsue she will be alone and it can be very intimidating, my excuse was the same thing, I couldn't be there because of work, but God I wish I would have done something the first time around in order to be there so he and I wouldn't have had to go through the hurt of being denied and feeling helpless..... just make sure if you can't be there that your fiancee has LOTS of evidence!!!! And if you can make it there, I suggest you do..... that's just from my own, personal experiences...... Buena suerte!!! Oh, gotta get that hotel number for you... :)

LOL you guys crack me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel sooo bad for her.. but what made her go for a guy like that in the first place... HELLO!!!!!!??????? How the hell did they meet anyway?????? I'm sorry but it's a recipe for disaster!! I know she wants to try and stay and work it out, but taking tha crap for much longer will drive her to AA meetings.......... and ditto on trying to stay here illegaly....... man tough place to be in........ Can you try and talk to your mormon friend? Knock some sense into him??? Is she staying with him and his mom??? OH MY GOD, say it ain't so!!!!!

divina22 comments on the happy day will soon arrive!

NOA2 is... The notice they send you form the UCIS stating taht your cas eis approved and on it's way to Bogota for teh interview...... The hotel was the Colombian Suites.... I'll get the number and address for you, but it was pretty affordable.... 140.000 pesos a night.. they have a place to eat there but I suggest eating out, it's cheaper...... anyway, about having your wife go to Bogota twice.... she should call the Dr. and schedule her exams at least two days before her interview to save her that extra trip.....

divina22 comments on the happy day will soon arrive!

Why don't you plan to go during the same week That's what my fiance did, he scheduled his medical exam for Wednesday, and his interview was on Friday. He flew in Tuesday night and stayed until Friday night....... I think that would make it easier than flying in twice, plus save a little money.......... are you joining her???? I woudl recommend it..... also we stayed in a decent hotel two blocks away from the Embassy..... let me know. :)

divina22 comments on Tired but Very Happy

Thanks for th input! I will be traveling tomorrow to meet my fiance in Bogota for our SECOND interview. I wasn't with him for the first and after having what I thought was lots of evidence, it wasn't and they didn't grant his visa. So, we have another opportunity and I am going for this one, I should have gone to the first one but couldn't make the arrangements. I now have in hand, 93 photos of he and I, and about 2,000 e-mails showing our communication throughout the past year+....... and I will be there so I think that might be enough evidence (they asked for it, they're getting it). Wish me luck! Congratulations on your visa!

divina22 comments on How can they deny outright?

Thanks daytona... I'll let you know if I'll need one... hopefully this time around will be much better than the first. I think with me being there and the amount of evidence we are going to bring, it should be MUCH better! I couldn't stay another week due to my responsibilities at work. I thought about it, but with the expense to change flights, more hotels, not just for me but for my son as well, I just couldn't do it........ butI'll let you know how it goes..... keep your fingers crossed for me!! :)

divina22 comments on How can they deny outright?

Thanks Crazi! I know you were going through the same thing, but the crazy thing is that they gave him no paperwork, he just left, so it was unclear to me what had really happened. All he said was that they said there was not enough evidence and I left. Which made me go even more crazy cause I know if that's the case, he has an opportunity to go back, so he flew back to Medellin that evening and we spent all weekend trying to understand why until I made a move on Monday to send letters, then follow up with a call. I believe they didn't follow through with him on letting him know what the next steps were so when we called they gave him an appointment right away. So, yes, I will be going down there I will bring 93 more pictures and about 1,800 e-mails, plus this month's phone records, and with myself being there, I would hope that they will see that this is not a fraudulant case....... thanks for the prayers, I will take all I can get!!!!!! :) I'll keep you all posted on what goes down!

divina22 comments on How can they deny outright?

Thanks Gator! I did review all of your information... good stuff! I will definitely be prepared this time (1000+ e-mails,50+ photos and more phone records......) sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, wish me luck! I'll let you know how it goes!!!!! Thanks again! ;)

divina22 comments on How can they deny outright?

OK so here's the deal I wrote two letters to the Supervisory Consular Officer....... after waiting yestedray for a return phone call form a very respected immigration attorney here in Miami (which never came), I decided it's time to call the Consulate. So, my fiance called, spoke to a girl there, explained the situation, told her that the case was denied because of lack of evidence by the CO, but he didn't give him any piece of paper or anything. So, she gave him another appointment. Does this sound right? Has anyone heard of this happening? So, naturally, the time ran out on his pin, so I called, with him on the line. I spoke to another guy, told him what had just happened, he confirmed that the appointment was scheduled and explained that we need to bring in everything that he brought in at the original interview, plus more evidence and that we would have our case reviewed again and if approved he will get his visa the next afternoon. So, the first girl told him his case would be reviewed, the second guythat I spoke to saidf it was like a review but also like a second chance and taht's why we need to bring all of our evidence, plus I asked him if he thought I shoudlbe tehre he said yes, it woudl help. Has anyone heard of this before????? Is this our second opportunity? I'm not sure if it was the letters to teh Supervisor or if they realized that his inetrview was sort of incomplete because no one gave him any paperwork......... anyone?

divina22 comments on How can they deny outright?

Nope, nothing like that I saw his police certificate, he's never EVER been outside of Medellin, never been on a plane before (going to Bogota for the interveiw was his first time). I sent boarding passes, etc. with my origibnal petition, then sent more along with him from my tripin April. I gave him all I could form this past trip lastweek (couldn't give him my boarding pass cause I left on Monday the 10th and he flew out to Bogot on the 12th early a.m.

I'm telling you guys, I had all my ducks in a row, that's why I am so freaking out......

Well, I just sent the letter to the Supervisory Consular Officer. I am waiting for my boss so he can speak to his dad (who is personal friend swith both my congresswoamn and both Senators, so let's see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks so much and any additional help or advise would be PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!! Love you guys!!!!

divina22 comments on How can they deny outright?

That's what I am considering... Some have said I can contact my congressman and they might, at the least, get us the opportunity to provide the evidence they say we are lacking. Do you know anything about that?

divina22 comments on How can they deny outright?

Sorry, I was in a state of shock The #$%hole that interviewed him did not give him an opportunity to provide more evidence AT ALL!!! Simply told him there was not enough evidence and denied him outright. In most people's cases I thought they gave you an opportunity, if there was not enough evidence, to provide more at a later date. But this guy that interviewed him gave him nothing but a denial. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!

I am so upset right now, I'm sick. It all boiled down to who interviewed him, he came with tons of stuff that we had worked on together (I was there the week prior) and we got everything in order, photos, e-mails, phone call records, receipts of packages sent back and forth, one year of bank statements, all the financial stuff, quotes for our wedding dinner here in the States. None of that was sufficient for this guy (I'm being quite nice right now calling him a guy).

He asked him a hundred questions, asked him to show photos, e-mails, phone records, misc. receipts, stopped in the middle of it to chat with another guy behind the glass, the whispered to each other, then laughed like they had just heard the funniest thing then proceeded to ask more questions, and then at the end, said the visa was denied because there was not enough evidence, That's it! All the waiting, all the time, all the money, all the patience, all of our plans are ruined beacuse some guy, who was probably miserable, decided to take out his misery on two people who are madly in love with each other and ruin their lives. DAMN, I am soooooo upset, so frustrated, I don't even know what to do. I haven't stopped crying, everytime I think about it it makes me sick to my stomach. It's all down the tubes, all of it, down the tubes.

Now what do I do? Many have told me to start again, do the same thing again, that it will show them that we are not playing around. Is there a time that I have to wait before applying for the K-1 again? Does anyone know? Should I try the K-1 or should I plan to go down there and get married and come back and start the K-3???? I need you help guys! I'm a wreck and so confused. Please help me!!!!

Take it suave!!!! LOL, sorry I just had to!!!!!!! I agree with Aji1 on this one, sometimes it is easier to convey a message with one word in Spanish.... let's say... like.... hijuepu......... Anyways, where are you from??? Cause here in Miami, it's the norm to not just say one word in Spanish but speak English and then just automatically start talking in Spanish... it's just a habit..... shoot, sometimes I do it to my prometido ( HA HA) and he doesn't even speak English that well! So, it's just a habit, I don't think it's a bad one, just a bi-cultural thing...... I don't have a problem with it and get this...... I don't have a lick of latin blood in me... I'm straight up gringa.... it doesn't bother me at all... :)
