Dionysus comments on LACSA Airline

I have no complaints about LACSA, also known as TACA, and continue to fly with them.

Dionysus comments on spring break: 3 options, 2 questions, 1 week to be there....need help

Thanks, greenday -- If I waited to buy a BOG-Medellin roundtrip ticket at the Bogota airport the day I arrive, would there still be space for flights that day? I would not want to have to leave the Bogota airport or wait a couple of days for a flight to Medellin.

Dionysus comments on spring break: 3 options, 2 questions, 1 week to be there....need help

Thanks, dwmte and SiempreHero. Looks like Medellin's the place right now....anyone have another opinion?

Dionysus comments on More Modern, Nicer City: Medellin or Monterrey, Mexico

Monterrey like Medellin? Where is Monterrey often compared to Medellin? I've never heard that until this post.

Dionysus comments on Medellin featured in National Geographic

March 2005? Is the March 2005 issue even out yet?

That's funny! "Barranquilla was like Hawaii"! .......because of 85 degree air temp., and palm trees line the streets! Like 85 degree weather and palm trees alongside the road can't be found anywhere else. Give me a break!

Overall, "Shock and Awe" tourism non-existent (as of now) Don't forget that there's still a ton of negative media concerning Colombia in the U.S. (for example). Even though some of us have been there and experienced it for ourselves, there are still A LOT of people who think it's crazy to go there. The culturally insensitive "Shock and Awe" tourists are mainstream, so don't count on their invasion just yet.

I've never been to Cartagena. But based on what I've read, it's #1 when it comes to tourism in Colombia. Has anyone who has been there noticed the negative effects of mainstream tourism?

I noticed a gringo invasion in Costa Rica and parts of Brazil when I was there and sure do hope it does not happen in Colombia. Sure it's good for the economy, but I just hate to see tourists arrive somewhere like they are landing on the moon in their nifty spacesuits. And again, I am talking about the culturally insensitive tourists.

Dionysus comments on Peter - new forum for relationships?

Exactly, Peter! Peter, I totally agree with you. I say keep the forums the way they are. Otherwise, relationship discussions just might take over your site and it will never be the special site that it is again.

Dionysus comments on What do u think about the Cia report???is this Colombia??? God Blessed Usa...another time...LOL

zag the wag Zag, this is absurd! You posted all the CIA's info on Colombia to try to prove two little points? What are you trying to say? Gringos bring HIV to Colombia? Ridiculous!!!! Also, 90% of cocaine in the US is from Colombia....the above report does NOT mean that the US imports 90% of Colombian produced cocaine. Also, Rio de Janeiro is a major launching point for Colombian cocaine bound for Europe. It doesn't just go north to the US, dude. It goes all over the world, including Europe.

Also, when I was in Salvador, Brazil last February, your Italian brothers were all over the place paying young girls for companionship. I thought you said those types of guys only come from the USA.

Dionysus comments on Cali-Cartagena-Cali?

Thanks everyone, especially mad_lion! Thanks for sharing your detailed info., mad_lion. If anyone else is familiar with the Cali X-mas scene, please share. Any partying tips? Where to go? Cultural tips? What clothes to wear? Weather? The Feria itself? Or the Cartagena X-mas idea?

Thanks again!

Dionysus comments on Aura y Calipro

A severe case of hot lips? "What a world, what a world...."......calipro's face is melting!!!! Where's your face, man? Her lips can't be that hot!

Dionysus comments on Uribe or not

Hmmmm.....

(1) What do Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe have in common?

They're both buddies of Bush.

(2) What are Bush and Uribe fighting?

Wars on terror.

(3) Can Bush win his war on terror?

No. It's about policies, not world police. The U.S. will continue having problems until it uses diplomacy.

(4) Will 4 more years of Bush make a difference in the war on terror?

No, it will have a negative impact.

(5) Can Uribe win his war on terror in 4 or 8 years?

The FARC ain't small and it's a challenge as it is to disband the smaller organizations. How is this large leftist rebel group going to succumb to this conservative president?

Dionysus comments on POOR but happy, guide to colombia, but you all talk of hotels, apartment suites,...............................

BP, thanks for being specific But it's still silly. There are 8 posts between Max's first and yours. "Buy a woman" are your words. In another post of his, before your first comment, he says that he gave a woman money after he had sex with her. A mail order bride, no. A traveller paying for sex, yes. It's just ironic that you're agreeing with a non-gringo traveller guy who paid for sex in Colombia (who thinks he can outsmart Elmo) to say that the gringos who come there to marry are sad loners "who make the most of the exchange rate."

Dionysus comments on POOR but happy, guide to colombia, but you all talk of hotels, apartment suites,...............................

British Paisa, the joke is on you jajajajajajaja.......

If you had read more carefully, you would have noticed that nomad_max has not told us where he is from. You must know him really well since you answered for him, telling us he's from the "states."

Watch it BP. You have enough ammo to knock people from the "states" even when it is not clear where the guy is from. Loosen up! If someone who is actually from the "states" or even from another country (although it sounds like you're partial to knocking guys from the states who travel to Colombia) writes something that bothers you, call them on it when it happens. That's called hitting your target. That's why you've never seen me write here about some guys who happened to be British, in my hostel in Salvador, Brazil who were after young whores. Yes, this is a Colombia guide website. But that does not give you free range to classify a guy writing about his sex and drug experiences in Colombia as being from the "states"..... unless you know Max personally. But if you don't know him, your post is lame. Even if you know him, get specific about the guys you're talking about from the "states".

Yes, nomad_max is a cocky nomad who likes to think that he knows what it's like to rough it. There are far worse things than getting crabs on the road, max. Max even tries to challenge elmodefoque on the barrios of Barranquilla! YOU'RE the loser here, know-it-all_max!

Dionysus comments on Hotels in Cali

I am also going to Cali this December... and would like to know if anyone has any further information on the two hostels that angieraes mentions (Iguana and Calidad). Are they close to all the Feria fun?

D.

Dionysus comments on I´m in Bogota now...

Thanks for the report....please tell us more when you have a chance.

Dionysus comments on THE Christmas Party City

Cartagena in the lead Anyone else besides Desi for Cali?.....anyone have more to say about Cartagena?

Dionysus comments on Need advice for a Dec. Trip

Best Places to Party................ Hey Leonardo: I want to go to Colombia too during that time. I'm also looking for some great parties/nightlife. What has the scene been likein Cartagena the previous times you've gone, when it wasn't Christmas vacation?

From what I've heard, it sounds like 'lots of stuff goes on in Cali because there is la feria de Cali which goes on from Christmas into a few days of January. I've also heard about many guys returning to Cali for their second or third feria de Cali. Can't be bad. Cartagena sounds fun, but why is Cali one of your last resorts?

**********************************************************************
To everyone who knows something: How about ranking the best places to party in Colombia between Christmas and New Year's...................

Dionysus comments on AIRLINE TICKETS TO COLOMBIA

Says who? Ronaldo: I agree with you. We should all join forces in our common aim to go to Colombia. Tell me, where exactly are you finding these fares? What time of year is your LAX-PEI fare for? The TACA.com website doesn't list Pereira as a destination on its website. Know of a good roundtrip fare from LAX to Cali in the second half of December? TACA has one for $825usd. Is that because it is the high season? Is that the best fare I can find out of LAX for that time of year? I am thinking of going there for the feria.

Dionysus comments on Is it worth it?

What is Cali itself like? Thanks for the good posts juanalejo, desi, frank, and marce! Now, is Cali itself a nice city? How is it in terms of art, culture, and people? What is the general nightlife like? If you're not good at salsa, do you miss out on all the fun?

D

Dionysus comments on Why aren't Las Rolas included in the ongoing Caleñas vs. Paisas debate?

Las Rolas is not a place, Hallgeir. Las Rolas are the ladies who hail from Bogota.
