davidslc46 comments on Envigado Unsafe?...... I lived in Envigado for about 8 months until January of this year. It was always very comfortable. This year they had a number of assasinations because of drug gangs but this was generally happening across Medellin and confined to the gangs. As Haddeman points out there has been a significant police response in his neighborhood as in mine and shootings have become far less frequent. David

davidslc46 comments on Taxi drivers income I backed into a taxi driver last Saturday in El Dorada. He wanted 50,000 COP per day to compensate him for lost wages. I think he was sincere but he did not get that. Two mechanics gave the same 1.4 million COP estimates ( that should tell you something ) . I said he could go legal through my insurance or I would give him 1 million COP. He seemed happy in accepting 1 million. There was a 50,000 COP to transito for assistance which appeared to be expected in these smaller towns. David

davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia MES says you are good people, but i never directed any comment towards you in this thread. I am just that as I suspect you are. I may have misunderstood your comments but again I ask you more or less, are you my friend or foe. If you are my friend, let my stupid comments go. I apologize that I am not in a better mood to understand what you meant. David

davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia Justo mí says on Nov 8, 2009, 16:20 (today): flag I think he is trying to point out that he would have his friends shut you up Miguel. One thing about you Miguel, is you are not about to run from no one, and you are not a hypocrite like so many on here. You keep it real and are real. David sounds like another Bushwacked. PBH is similar to the movie "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest", but good cheap entertainment. :) Justo mi, I hope miguel is a better translater than you. That is not what I said or meant. But you seem to be an instigating kinda fella who interprets things for others. As much as I got tired of Bushwacked at least he was not some pussy trying top draw others into a fight. You interpret that! David

davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia Okay, Then let it go. You got a nice hit in on the philly phella. But it could not really stick becuase I was not guilty. I have tried to say I do not know you but I might like to know you at least once. If however you cannot make the leap of friendndship I certainly understand. David

davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia That was not directed to you, David. Now you make an ass out of yourself, and include yourselve amongst the chichipato group...nice job, David! whats the real story here, David??? Miguel The truth is if you knew me you would stop talking sh*t. If I errrored, my friends would shut the phuck up. David

That and it cannot be hygienic having a colombian touch my food" Kat, Might as well get into with you. That sounds downright wrong. David

davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia Miguel_Clavo says on Nov 8, 2009, 15:43 (today): flag David, you just told me to phuck off? Must have gotten under your skin to get that kind of reaction from you after my statement you quoted. Seems to me like you are the dick, David. Some people just have asses as tight as a frogs ass, thats all. I did it nicely in response to you talking shit about me doing something in good faith. So it thats how you play and the shoe fits what would you expect me to say. I do not get concerned whether your name is miguel or george bush so do not give that anymore thought. I actually liked george bush. My business is dogs and not bitches. You seem to know alot about the bitches. David

davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia David....I live here in Colombia 2 years this month, and i spend much more than that monthly for my living and business expenses. davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia Johnny says Is it you David that just spent about 200 bucks in fuel duty and toad tolls to fetch your dog? Yes it was toad tolls, And 1 million to the taxi I backed into in el dorada and of course 50,000 to transito. But honestly, I was not drinking and it was my fault. Maybe I should have done the Colombian thing, deny, deny, deny, okay it is an asshole thing anywhere. In addition if you really wanted me to freely tip do not place a charge on my bill for tipping. You do your staff and your establishment a disservice. David

davidslc46 comments on Tipping in Colombia I always appreciate when they add the 5% propitia ( sp ) in as it saves me from having to feel guilty for not going with the usual 15%. Obviously when you have to add it to all checks, people clearly do not tip much in Colombia. David

davidslc46 comments on Why do people talk poorly about each other? dwmte7 says on Nov 8, 2009, 09:47 (today): flag tried, miguel, but i was too old and there was no place to park my walker.................... patriarch Oh thats right, you are so old and get off on just trying to relive those good old Colombia days. Nobody gives a sh*t whether you were the only gringo with balls enough to live in Barbosa way back when. Better to be a Colombian queen in the here and now. Sorry I had to edit my own post as it was beginning to look like I was the subject of this thread, LOL! David

davidslc46 comments on Lost all belonging in hotel , Itagui dwmte7 says on Nov 8, 2009, 04:49 (today): flag what i find curious, is how one, looking for a place to stay in the medallo area, would find themselves in itagui? it's like getting more lost after you're already lost. every time we had to go to itagui to visit family, my skin crawled. the atmosphere is/was horrible, dull, kinda lifeless. add to that the slammer there doesn't help anything. Well when you are led to believe all things are equal in Medellin neighborhoods you probably end up staying in some places you maybe should not be staying. Douglas, Can you imagine losing everything in Itagui and not having another friend or family to help you get things sorted out? Well as Robert more or less stated, cut your losses and go home a wiser but poorer man. David

davidslc46 comments on Accommodation in Medellin? Lisa Zee says on Nov 7, 2009, 19:55: flag "Poblado is also appealing but I want to experience the real Medallo!" El Poblado is in Medellin!. You take a taxi and you will be wherever you want to, the same as if you stay in another area, but a lot safer. I would agree with what Lisa says. You are going to get alot of attention, some of it unwanted in many Medellin neighborhoods and a tourist just does not have time to acclimate. David

davidslc46 comments on Help Requested, Going from Medellin to Bogota Went bello through el dorada to bogota and it took about 8 and 1-2 hours to do 400 KM. About the same on the way back. two thirds of the road is mountains where the road is single laned in each direction and when you finally do pass the tanker going 10KM per hour you meet another slow moving truck about a quarter of a mile further up or down the road. Road conditions sucked in most places. Signage got a little weak in small towns and had to ask for directions a couple times each way. These are rather grueling hours and driving conditions. We split the trip in half and did it over two days the way home which was the way I would do it in the future if I ever do it again. Gasoline both ways was about $140 USD and road toals were probably $70. Lodging in Bogota airport area more expensive then around any US airports and a room cost us $228 USD dicounted!! But after the dog had had about 40 hours trip time we cleared him through the vet and Dian in about 3 hours and other then dehydration and hunger the dog made it okay. So when all was said and done it was worth it to get my boy home, but in the future I will make flying to Bogota my first and most appealing option. Oh, saw a moto hit a dog and lose control right in front of me around rio negro and an overturned truck and three slides on the way to bogota and so I can appreciate that one little incident could potentially make this trip a 12 hour trip. Thanks everyone for the help! David

davidslc46 comments on Why do people talk poorly about each other? People want to be acknowledged. The more undervalued they feel at the core the more aberrant their actions and words. The internet allows anyone the opportunity to pretend to be something they are not. Most of us want to be accepted and therefore try to fit in. The really sad case is the one who spouts off with little regard to whether their comments move people towards them or away from them. I suspect like an unstable dog their insecurity is what motivates them but regardless they cannot be trusted. What a bunch of psychobabble! They are phucked up if you hadn`t noticed! David

davidslc46 comments on www.xoom.com YOU CAN'T USE XOOM IN TO TRANSFER MONEY FROM US WHEN YOU ARE IN COLOMBIA. That was my problem. Sending from my own USA bank account to myself in Colombia triggered a blockage and they refused to transmit anything. I cannot remember what the limit was but I thought it was only $3000 per 30 days which maybe enough if you budget better than I. David

davidslc46 comments on Help Requested, Going from Medellin to Bogota webmanco says on Nov 3, 2009, 15:49 (today): flag How old is the dog, would not the dog need a couple of day´s rest befor driving to Medellín? Just over 2 years. No he should be able to rest in the back of my truck. He will be worthless for a few days as it is an extremely long trip and dogs suffer jet lag just as we do. But I know the dog and should be able to identify if he is not holding up well at any point. Part of the high cargo cost is for providing care, food and water, at stops along the route. I will let you know how it actually works out. I am not looking forward to the trip, but I am excited to be getting my dog home. David

davidslc46 comments on Help Requested, Going from Medellin to Bogota Thanks you guys, MB, I just hope it was the days you chose to drive as I am pretty much stuck with having to drive it. However air france has an embargo on animals in cargo so he gets shipped cargo from Budapest to Bogota at a much greater cost.. David

davidslc46 comments on The Days Before the Gringo Invassion I just spent yesterday partying in Santa Domingo. I would loive to see any of you bad ass gringos in front of an ATM in that town flaunting yourselves. What a bunch of crap. We are not talking citibank el poblado. David

davidslc46 comments on crazy shooting on bus in medellin You carry an illegal firearm in Medellin these days and you will most likely lose it and be arrested. In my neighborhood the police response to the increased shootings has been checkpoints throughout the neighborhood. We are talking every major thoroughway up until the discos close. This has brought security although if someone wants you bad enough I suspect they can still get you. I do not know if you can legally even carry one in Medellin. I am sure one of you or the other members knows what the staus of concealed weapons in Medellin is. David

After the meet up,it will be known who's old, fat, bald, drunkard, ugly, stupid, poor, sex tourist, slutty, lunatic, ect. Yep you pretty much identified everyone but me at the last meetup, LOL. davidslc46 comments on Yikes! ATM Fees davidyamiga says on Oct 27, 2009, 17:02 (today): flag David...I am only able to take out 800,000 pesos. They changed recently. David Change machines until you fiind one with money and then it will give you 2 million. I thought the same thing a few months ago and it took me a few times to Citibank San Diego and El Poblado to figure out that is what the machine reverts to when it is low on cash. Now I just cancel the transaction and then try other machines. Only once did I have to try three to get back two million. David

|
davidslc46 comments on Yikes! ATM Fees Citibank ATM's are newer and you can withdraw million pesos in one shot... This is true. I pay $5 foreign transaction fee to my card company but when you can get $1000 USD out in one transaction it does not hurt that much. David

davidslc46 comments on Robbery in Cali Lastnight $$ Robbers do not follow you home to your gate to rob you Sh*t I saw the exact thing happen in Envigado caught on apartment complex video tape and broadcast on TV. 3 motos six men boxed them in at the gate entrance. And the security guys did not do sh*t as afar as I remember. They went at them through the windows stealing like 4 million pesos that they had taken from an ATM. David

davidslc46 comments on How long is a foreign Driver Licence valid in Colombia? 170 for the real thing, all included. Thats what I paid in Bello and I do not have to a discussion with transito about the law related to a drivers license. It has made my road check stops much more efficient. David

davidslc46 comments on Overweight, socially inept, badly dressed gringos Thanks theflatline, Seriously none of these stereotypes fly much beyond park lleras as far as I can see. There are alot of attractive people in Colombia who do shorts of one type or another and sandels. David
|
|
davidslc46 comments on Overweight, socially inept, badly dressed gringos This mythical 'fat-boy-in-sandals' figure strikes me as being a comedic stock-in-trade, wheeled out from time to time by the kind of churlish mockers who think a studied juvenile cynicism and a faux-street demeanour reflect well on them. I thought translating spanish was hard? David

davidslc46 comments on PBH MEET UP IN MEDELLIN, 13th of NOVEMBER Darloup Are you THAT bored and that desperate in Colombia that you wish to meet other ex-pats? Doesn't Colombia provide enough? Darloup, Do you really think it was boredom that got me and my wife to the last meetup? And do you think meeting Huskie, Robert, Papi, Gringoloid, Mes, and their ladies ( Huskie had a lady friend ) was not something worth experiencing. You probably have not met any of them as you would not make the statement you did if you had. Each of them warranted friendship and respect, but how the phuck would you know that? They had the balls to show up ( not including Huskie ) and I am glad they did. It does not take any balls to spout off on this site but it does take balls to go and be real with members who have spouted off. Boredom had nothing to do with it. If you knew us you would know we did it by choice and not out of need. David

davidslc46 comments on Failing Horribly...Should I call it quits or is there something I'm missing? Bro, You sound like a good guy. You are not failing, you just have not found a way to succeed. You are the only one who can decide when it is time to fold em. Whats missing is a wealthy Colombiana! Seriously why you are still here try to hook up with a nice Colombiana who is well off. I am sure there are a few that would like to meet you. If you already in a relationship my apologies, but whether I stand or fall I will survive but it is a whole lot easier to be getting laid while I am doing it. Money does not hurt for that matter either, David
