crystaln comments on warning for Canadians....

Be Patient! Hello...I have successfully received a visa for my conjugal partner. You need to be more patient! Seven months is NOTHING. Be prepared to wait and in the meantime do everything you can. If she has not received an interview yet you must still wait. If she has...tell her to give the Embassy a call to follow up...follow up ...follow up... In Canada, you should definitely contact your local MP and ruffle some feathers.

The entire process for me took about a year.

Best of luck, I feel for you!

crystaln comments on Connecting through Bogota airport

Travel Agent's word My computer system says legal connection time is 90 mins...having done it myself I would say it depends on what time you are arriving on your international flight...probably wouldn't chance it though since there are so many delays with customs and baggage.

crystaln comments on Conjugal Partner visa for Canada

We're screwed Yeah..thanks..seems we're screwed though...you have one thing we didn't...neither one of us has been married so there is no separation that is preventing us from getting married. As far as they are concerned we "can" get married. What would be a reasonable reason for not wanting to get married? We just DON'T ..and they should understand our right to live as common law....hmmm..whatever!

Ok..but our application has not been refused yet...had yours been? I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by pissing off the officer. I know that we are right but it seems they are trying to force us to get married. You were able to get an opposite sex partner into the country by applying this way b/c you had tried to live together and couldn't? Thanks for your reply...any additional help you could provide would be great. Can't seem to get to a human on the call centre line...don't think they are going to be able to give him another interview, but definitely plan to show up in 3 weeks at the Embassy. I have a feeling being a female and dealing with a male immigration officer I might not get anywhere..

Sponsoring Conjugal Partner from Canada Hi Everyone,

Hope someone can offer some advice as to how to go about receiving a visa for a Conjugal partner from Colombia.

My boyfriend (Colombian) and I (Canadian) have been together (or apart actually) for 2 years.

Of the course of the two years, he applied twice for student visas and was declined. After having been together for a year, we decided to try the conjugal route. It's very specific in the Canadian Immigration guide that this is only for special cases where people are unable to marry or live together continuously to form a common law relationship due to immigration barriers. Having student visas declined is the main reason we were not able to live common law.

The waiting time on the application actually wasn't that long. We submitted our application to Mississauga in December of 2004 and received an Interview at the end of March 2005.

However, he was told at the interview that the conjugal class is only for same sex couples that cannot get married because their country does not allow, COMBINED with immigration barriers...which we feel is very descriminatory. If they woudln't give him student permits, how would it have been possible for us to take part in a common law relationship?

We have been told that our application will be declined in 3 months if we do not submit change in marital status. We feel this is being forced on us.

Any thoughts from anyone out there how to beat this without getting married? Does anyone know anyone who has successfully recieved a visa by applying as a conjugal partner?

Your thoughts and feed back are greatly appreciated.
