Thank you, Mario! About the "diploma" -- he did, in fact, graduate the equivalent of high school in Colombia, but I just don't know if they have diplomas or transcripts or whatever.

I suppose he could check with the school he attended in Bogota?

He has been talking about getting a GED lately, though now in his 30s... but I thought he was "screwed" when he first arrived in the U.S. and his high school education in Colombia should be recognized here, no?

Names My Colombian boyfriend's name is John, and always has been, though people assume he *was* originally named Juan. His uncle chose the name, but his mother and relatives pronounce it more like "Jhoun" (as in Jean Claude Van Dame).....

My mother-in-law has a pretty name: Belen (accent over last e).
