OhMy says on Feb 27, 2008, 13:15: Hi Coonsie, only seen your comment now. I'm in Let's go Volunteer at the moment, well it's actually called Manos Amigos, Let's go Volunteer seems to be a just a name for getting the volunteers. Anyway, it's going well, the people here are incredibly friendly and the work is interesting. Basically at the moment there are 3 other volunteers and myself but there was 5 others for the last few weeks. I think it's usually about 2 or 3 volunteers. The work is helping some of the poorer children to read, write, speak some english and a bit of maths, some days they do sports and dance classes. Also, every day they prepare over a hundred lunchs. I've enjoyed my time here, although I wouldn't like to be the only volunteer here. It would make the weekends and evenings pretty boring as the town itself is no great shakes, but still, it's a good insight into the 'real' colombia. There's also some great weekend trips, but again, for me they're only good when doing them for other people. It's also very good for learning spanish. I'm only going to stay here a month as I want to do some other charity work with 'Habitat para Humanidad' up north. Hope the above helps. When are you getting to Colombia?
