Keep walking... When I ask for a bottle in a bar they gotta bring it to me closed. Otherwise I will demand for a new one closed and sealed.In many places they "marranean" a la gente; most time tourist. filling with cheap ass whiskey (or other liquor) a fine ass bottle. GIB I'm not telling colombian cops are better... I'm just clarifying that is NOT one of the best as your fellow bbruce stated previously. My point of view is that is one of the most corrupted ones and abuse their authority.

Si... Yo cuando llegue aca a USA trate de entablar amistad con mis companeros de escuela; esperaba que fuera a ser bien recibido por el grupo de colombianos... lo que me encontre fue con una bola de creidos "come-mierda"... unos pocos eran gente autentica pero la verdad es que tanta maldad junta me rebota y entonces empece a hacer grupo con amigos de otros paises... Ese sentimiento de desconfianza y envididia no va conmigo... dias pasados habia creado un blog parecido a este en ingles... porque la verdad es que mucha gente se da cuenta de lo la cagada que son muchos colombianos. Colombianos que solo andan fijandose en los problemas ajenos y en quien le salio el asilo politico y a quien no... que maricada... la verdad es que me da risa. ahh tambien me he ganado la sonrisita marica esa y la miradita sobre el hombro... me da mas risa pq esa bola de pendejos no me dan un plato de comida... por otro lado tambien he conocido... gente incondicional pero repito muy pocos...

Cops in the U.S... Abuse their authority;
I've seen news like:
A police officer killed a mexican trying to rob someone's house; the suspect was harrasing the owner of the house nocking the door several times. The police shot him in the head cause the suspect didn't put his hands on his head as the officer demanded.
At the end... the mexican was identified as a worker of the landscaping company the owner called days before to do his garden.
Then what happens..
the officer receive medals of honor... he killed a terrorist.
The mexican is illegal then his body is placed... somewhere...
he ain't got a decent funeral no trumpets, no prayers, no tears,no mexican flags, no family around his grave.

I recommend you not... to mess around with those people... Arauca is dangerous as hell... I don't want to scare you but If you are going to do some research to those kinds of areas... probably is to get in touch with those people as part of your research...if you are going try to get a local as Kat1 said... guerrillas don't play... If that's your objetive... go for it... but if is not nescesary try to do your research far away from there... I would never go there eventhough I'm colombian...

yeah modefoque... I can't stand with those modefoques I come from a place that if you ain't got money for food, drink,etc. people say: don't worry about money, we got you. REAl people doesn't care how much you got in your pockets cause "como dice el dicho donde comen dos comen tres". and I see then when I get here and see this colombians full of envy & s**t. How dissapointing.. Instead of giving you a hand... they try to fuck you up.. I don't know what's going on with this people... nojoda da rabia... que falta de sencillez...

yeah kat1...But not all colombians are like that... It's sad that many colombians are putting our culture under the ground. I'ts hard to find authentic colombians; enventhough I'm colombian is hard to me to get along with many of them. I just have a couple of colombian friends cause most that I've met really pretend to be superiors than people from other countries and that doesn't goes with me. I study, and get my stuff cause I break my back in order to get my things. I got no car so if you see me riding a bike or walking instead of driving a BMW... I don't really care what people think about me... If I got no money to buy a sushi; I go to BK and buy something from the dollar menu... Anyways s**t will smell the same... And that's something many colombians don't get. They think people is gonna be checking out the stuff they get as in Colombia... If you got a nice car... good for you... Just be sure you can pay it and will be all right. Otherwise you will be showing your golf-buddies how broke you really are; and your social life will end right away.
So Kat; I hope you can meet some colombian ain't full of crap someday... we still got authentic people...

it depends... If you are planning to teach english classes in an institution is risky cause in order to work most institutions ask for something that shows that you are legal to work.. legaly talking.
but for example if you lecture personal classes nobody will demand any kind of papers and you can get money. Is not a stable job but money is money everywhere... about the visas I dont know how it plays... but I think that in order to issue some kind of visa in Colombia.. is not that hard...

thanks rafa the states is a good place to live but immigration stuff is getting harder everyday... my cousin lives there and the weather is not a matter of fact for me... I tried to issue a work permit in the states but the office i was issuing with was some fake humanitarian bull... now my status is pending, and I cant do nothing so is the same as being ilegal...

but you know anything else about this law cause i know somebody that just passed the border and is applying for the asylum (she just did it 3 weeks ago). On the other hand my cousin move there when the border was open for all kind of immigrants and got his asylum, if you know where i can get more info about the law you are talking about please let me know. Asylum in the states is as hard as it gets so I didnt even try to issue it.
