Me hiciste dar hambre...jaja. Por suerte tengo dulce de batata en la heladera (nevera) !!!!!!!!!

Seguí con tu Latin Swing, q como dice Cerati, "todo lo iluminas"...

I took the bus along St. Clair yesterday towards Dufferin, and near Oakwood I saw 2 places of note: One was called 'La Paisa' and I think it was a Colombian restaurant, another was called 'Mi Tierra' and it said on the sign something like "Colombian and Latin American goods". I'd go check them out today but I leave Toronto for awhile. It's crazy, these places are so close yet I never noticed them before! Thanks by the way for sharing your knowledge :)

Maninred... Mi tierra is ok... food not bad but it's pricier and the Menu is lacking a LOT of variety. Service is ok depending when you go. The Establishment is nice.

I still recommend Arrieros on Jane and Annette. Richer menu, dirty cheap, big ass servings. Good taste and very friendly staff.

I know the owners of La Paisa, they are from Manizales. Food is ok, service hmmm... I give it 2/5. Food about 3/5.

where are you living now? we're stuck here in florida for a bit as our youngest daughter, laura juliana is in a private catholic school here...we don't want her studying in colombia, even though it is her birth place. schools are just much better here. too, she wants to go to georgetown univ. in wash. d.c. to study diplomacy. it's like west point for the military. if one wants to advance in the dip. corps they go to georgetown. when she enters university, her oldest brother, 43 yrs old, can look out for her--he lives in washington. then mom and i can go home, por fin. ojolla. i look forward to sitting on the porch in the finca in llano grande like a yogi looks forward to his, ".....40 years, the begging bowl and the road." after a householder has done 40 years of maintaining his house and family, he's allowed to 'drop out' and become a sadhu. oh, for my 40 years..........
if you're in colombia during navidad, and in medallo, don't miss the candle celebration in por venir. there's nothing like it on earth! really. they put candles in paper bags and let them burn all night. it's more than spactacular. there's millions of candles, literally. por venir is on the edge of rio negro, on the road to the airport. best time is 10 days before navidad.

The insurance should have kicked in by the time you decide to make the trip back from the Underworld and guide the Muiscas. I would guess you don't buy this part of the legend. Kind of spoils the effect, a bit of a Disneyesque and shady three-card-monte shuffle to please the kids.

I once met a guy who wanted to die by being struck by lightning. He watched far too much Weather Channel and drove his VW Bus across the badlands, looking to climb trees in the hurricane's eye. Fatimas being what they are, and fickle, I heard he ended up breaking into a power station by midnight. He ended up okay in an ER, my ER, and was not pleased about it.

Nope, Dominion is stylin'.

I worked at No Frills, our uniform had a drawing of a bunch of bananas right on the T-shirt.

I was a cashier so I had to spend boring long hours scanning groceries. I used to keep myself entertained by trying to guess where the people in my line were from, what language they spoke etc. I would also try to guess what kind of groceries they had in their cart before hand.

The funnest was when latinos came through my line and started talking about me right in front of my face because they didn't think I looked latina. I once had an ecuadorian lady giving her daughter instructions on how to sneak out the coke cases at the bottom of the cart, she was saying all this right in front of me. When they were about to leave I go: "senora, me hace el favor y me pasa las coca colas que lleva debajo del carrito", she turned pale ha ha ha.

If she hadn't talked about the cases she was hiding I would never had noticed them.

Those crazy ecuadorian ladies! Serves her right. We had a lot of people steal stuff from IGA, try and walk out of there with six pounds of steak beneath the winter coat.

I have lots of good stories. There was some big schitzophrenic German guy who used to come in wearing soccer shorts and a tank top during the winter time. He would always carry this ginormic German flag, the pole of the flag covered in carpet material (I guess his hands got cold?).

One time he freaked out on me because he said I wouldn't tell him what the tomatoes were saying about him behind his back. I was like "don't worry dude, the tomatoes say really nice things about you when you are not here". He wouldn't believe me, so his face turned blood red and he grabbed my neck with one had and told me when was going to strangle me. The security guard came by and kicked his ass out of the store.

I swear to god every word of this story is true. I am actually laughing as I type it.

Of course I believe the tomato story. You would not believe the stories I could tell you about emergency patients. I would have told him the truth -- "The Heinz tomatoes like your patriotism, Hans, but the Primo's think you're loco."

One of the good ones was a guy dressed as Spider Man who came in with a head injury. Seems his friend was turned on when he dressed as Spider Man, more so when he climbed on to the dresser to jump on to her bed. They had both been drinking. Ambulancer driver told me she was tied down. He jumped, hit his head on the headboard or baseboard and he passed out. A neighbour heard the thump, or the woman, and called an ambulance. The ambulance drivers didn't bother to remove the Spider Man costume when they went to pick him up...

I have spent three or four days in Munich so am no expert.

Munchen has a lot of good places and "gardens" to drink beer (some famous one like the Hofbrauhaus; Oktoberfest is in Munich). I like pretzels and sausages but German food doesn't do it for me. There are a lot of Turkish in Germany with various ethnic restaurants that serve food I prefer to the heavy German stuff.

Lots of nice parks and architecture in Munich. Good (but pricy) shopping if into that sort of thing. A lot of students, but I found the vibe much more conservative and less bohemian than Berlin. Several stuffy museums and schlossen (old castles -- Nymphenburg the best I saw), though the old art gallery (alte pinksomething?) was pretty good. Opera and ballet are popular, getting a ticket would be harder than you think. Good orchestra. I found the Olympic stuff somewhat boring. Several clubs which played a lot of techno but closed early, unlike the all night raves in Berlin.

I suppose this, more than anything else, makes me a real colombian..... the fact that I am longing for my little corner of South America .... even when I am supposed to be awe stricken because I am standing at the foot of the Eiffel tower... or the Empire State.... or the Big Ben....

I always liked travelling in South America much more than Europe. Old buildings and postcards are okay for a while. Famous touristy spots often a let down, long lines, expectations unmet. Give me people who are friendly and unpretentious.

Munich left me cold. The Colombians are way more fun than the Germans, and smile one heckuva lot more. Berlin is a little more international, and with East Berlin has a cool bohemian vibe, but it is still a German city. In Colombia, people want tourists to share their music and culture and have a good time. People in Colombia are always eager to tell a joke or hear a story. German jokes hurt my ears.

"Your German likes nature, but his idea of nature is a glorified Welsh
Harp. He takes great interest in his garden. He plants seven rose trees
on the north side and seven on the south, and if they do not grow up all
the same size and shape it worries him so that he cannot sleep of nights.
Every flower he ties to a stick. This interferes with his view of the
flower, but he has the satisfaction of knowing it is there, and that it
is behaving itself. The lake is lined with zinc, and once a week he
takes it up, carries it into the kitchen, and scours it. In the
geometrical centre of the grass plot, which is sometimes as large as a
tablecloth and is generally railed round, he places a china dog. The
Germans are very fond of dogs, but as a rule they prefer them of china.
The china dog never digs holes in the lawn to bury bones, and never
scatters a flower-bed to the winds with his hind legs. From the German
point of view, he is the ideal dog. He stops where you put him, and he
is never where you do not want him." -- Jerome K Jerome, Three Men In A Bummel.

After the meal, we went for coffee and pastries on college street. I felt fine, drove home and started feeling really really dizzy. I started feeling nauseous and shivering. I hugged the porcelain god, wrote a post on PBH and crawled into bed (exactly in that order). Called my friend and she felt fine but that is because she had fish instead of chicken.

I don't know what the hell that was, but I felt better by this mornin.... I am still a bit queasy.

I like ajiaco, and vampires are said to dislike garlic, but if I'm pretty sure I'd survive if I never had a bowl of ajiaco again. I mean I only had it for the first time two years ago, and seemed to be doing okay. I'm about 99% sure I just ate the ajiaco and did not use it fetishistically -- I hardly remember rubbing any of it on my nipples. You think of a better mission and we'll talk.

Isn't there an Earth chakra in Alberta? Nothing against rednecks, but I'd prefer to go to the one in Hawaii or the Himalayas. The reason so few fang-bearers walk the Earth is because dentists conspire to remove fangs at an early age, turning dangerous vampyrs into harmless frucos.

I am willing to accept some "irrational" phonomena, but other stuff just makes no sense to me. Auras? If you see them, you see them. I don't. Psychics? Some people are very perceptive, you wanna call it ESP I won't complain; my mother is like this, I can be too. Celestine prophecies? I find them a bit simplistic, but won't argue the premise. Chakras? I guess it depends just what one means by this. Ghosts? Maybe. Sasquatch? Nuh-HUH.

Mujer florero (Marilia A. Casares)

no me escuchas no me miras
¡ay! cuánto te quiero

Quiero ser tu florero,
con mi cintura ancha
muy contenta cuando me das el beso de la semana
Es mi sueño todo limpio
es mi sueño estar en bata

Jaja. Aja. Jaa. I always thought Weird Al was over-rated -- I mean it is easy to parody popular songs. Geez, half the you-tube Yasuri Yamileth copies are as good. Brother was neither a Fruco nor a fang-bearer nor a wearer of yellow tees. He was old enough to have known better than to buy 3-D, or whatever that album was called.

You know I have only the greatest respect for you, querida (and doubtless dream of you in your red Fogosa outfit, looking and talking like a Killer Tomato). But the evidence would suggest you (1) Either knew some of the words to Eat It yourself or (2) Took the time to Google it. And here I was thinking you were cultured and hip. Ten times! I listened to Letanias 2 or 3 times so I could understand the Spanish. And that was enough, frankly. I found a few Colombians who acted like they didn't know who Octavio Mesa was until they had a few drinks too.

I met a few female lawyers in Colombia, and they ALL tried to teach me as many pirobos as they could, presumably so I could insult strangers and get myself in serious trouble. I did have fun watching people abreact to "Entonces qué, marica"... they would look stunned for a few seconds, decide whether to try and clock me, then laugh and buy me a drink.

I have a friend (it wasn't me, smartie) who put "Sexyback" on the pub jukebox ten times in a row, and it nearly started a massive brawl. It seems that hearing the golden voice of Justin Timberlake for half an hour was excessive and cruel. The Letanias is funnier but it grates -- like slamming a taxi door or crunching all the pappadoms in Pondicherry at the same time.

You know, I remember as a really small child in colombia they used to have a show on cadena 1 about Los Proceres de la Independencia. Every episode they would act out the life of one of our heroes of independence. I will never forget the show about Policarpa, I was only 5 but I remember being in awe when Policarpa bravely took a hail of bullets.. except on the show she was sitting on a stool blindfolded with her back to the executioners. That scene has always remained vividly in my mind.... it' the epidome of bravado.
