ColombianoX comments on ¿Que Paso?

I've heard Jay Leno makes some pretty tasteless jokes about Colombia. And who can forget the "joke" that redneck David Letterman said about Miss Colombia a few years ago. He had to apologize after the colombian consulate in NYC complained. Sadly, it appears anti-colombian jokes are alive and well on late night US television. Interesting how they would never dare make jokes about some countries (i.e. Israel) but they see others as fair game (i.e. Colombia). These "jokes" will only continue until we colombian-(US)americans step up and complain about this disrespectful treatment of Colombia by these so-called late night comics.

As for Drew Carey, I never liked that fat f---! I always thought he was overrated.

LEAVE GOMEZMAN ALONE!!! When Gomez first appeared on this board, I admit we had a few altercations, but we have gotten to know and respect each other since then. I consider him one of my few friends on this board. He is always there to offer sound advice to anyone with an inquiry about Colombia and I think he is without a doubt one of the most valuable members of this board.

COLOMBICHE,

"I am all in favor of, and cheering, for Colombia being a better place, which I believe it is steadily becoming."

GringoDeLouisian,

My "fantasy-based conclusions"? This is an article from CNN, one of the leading news sources in the USA, and they don't report "fantasy"! If you are supposedly "in favor of Colombia being a better place" then why are you trying to refute what is undoubtedly positive news for Colombia?

On a side note, it's interesting how Univision and Telemundo completely ignored this news item in their evening newscasts yesterday.

Antioqueñita,

I really can't see how any self-respecting 'antioqueño' could think that movies like "La Vendedora de Rosas" and "La Virgen de los Sicarios" are "good movies". They have got to be among the most negatively-biased, dismal, anti-Medellin garbage I've ever seen!!

"I think Oprah might be the worlds most popular woman."

Oprah?

I was going to say the same thing, but Gomez beat me to it. I really don't think anyone in the non-english speaking world knows or really cares who Oprah is. It's not like she's a famous singer or actress. Remember that just recently some trendy french store wouldn't let her in to shop when it was about to close. Oprah made a big fuss about it and attributed it to 'racism' (what a surprise!). The french employees probably just didn't know who she was.

ColombianoX comments on Definition of North America/North American…

"Why is it you feel you have the right to label me with some generic lable that doesn't describe who I am?"

GringoInBogota,

Colombians don't call you "americano" because to them that term is even more generic than "norteamericano". For colombians and most latin americans, an "americano" is anyone from any country from Chile to Canada. Therefore when they call you "norteamericano", they are being a little more specific, and when they want to be really specific, they'll just call you "estadounidense".

Now do you understand??

"See, that's important to maintaining ColX's sense of superiority to Mexico and God knows he needs something to feel superior about."

Mr. Hollywood,

Your implication that this thread is about me "maintaining any sense of superiority to Mexico" is complete hogwash. If the article had stated that Peru or Bolivia were now the top US drug suppliers then I would have titled this thread:

"Great news!! Peru, NOT Colombia, is now the TOP SUPPLIER of U.S. Drugs!!"

or

"Great news!! Bolivia, NOT Colombia, is now the TOP SUPPLIER of U.S. Drugs!!"

I've noticed that every time I post a postive note about Colombia or the colombian people, you always try to contradict it, which begs me to ask the question, are you ANTI-COLOMBIAN?

"Here all these years I had imagined the Catholic "stance" on homosexuality involved a priest telling an alterboy to bend over and pick up the communion wafers."

"ColX is a resentful, anti-American"

I'm anti-american? Gee, let's see, I've posted articles about altruistic (US)american doctors who have gone to Colombia to operate for free on poor colombian children, I've constantly expressed my gratitude for Plan Colombia, and any time a colombian makes any unfair comment about the US system based on the rule of law, I call them on it. Once again, your assertion is ridiculous.

My title is almost the the same as the original title given to this article by the Miami Herald, a very respectable (US)american paper, so if you think there's any misrepresentation going on, take it up with them. Here's the link so you can see it for yourself:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/12266993.htm

Mr. Hollywood,

Don't worry, you're not wrecking anything. Those lovely stats you bothered to look up are only about cocaine, the article talks about several types if illegal drugs, therefore what the article says about Mexico being the top supplier of US DRUGS (not just cocaine) still stands.

Well yes, if I were mexican or chicano, of course I would not see this as great news, but last time I checked I was COLOMBIAN-(US)american and I'm coming from the 100% pro-colombian point of view, so hell yeah I see it as great news!!

Come on Tinto, then what are they supposed to do, put subtitles on a cartoon watched by many small children who can't read yet? Heck, I even prefer to watch the Star Wars movies in spanish on DVD, I always get a kick out of hearing Darth Vader say,"Luke, YO SOY TU PADRE!"

About the DVD's that come with french-language tracks and no spanish-language tracks, this really pisses me off! I don't see why they give preference to french-speakers since spanish is without a doubt the second language of the US.
