What? We do have two male members that act like a couple of old ladies on one day and like little babies the next.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on 2-way ignore

He shouldn't have edited it. He was right.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Engagement ring

I wouldn't worry about customs. I just pocketed my wife's ring without a second thought. I was more worried about losing it. it is a good idea to ask the prospective fiancee about her preference for a ring. I just pointed my wife at the DeBeers page to pick out the cut she liked. Then I just had my jeweler send me photos of various designs from which she could pick.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on What is your favorite colombian insult...

I think the funniest is probably "ñampiro". It is the word my wife uses to refer to scummy or thuggy looking people. It is synonymous to "ñero". Muergano is another good one that isn't vulgar. My personal favorites are all very vulgar, so I'll abstain.

I really don't know what to think. I suppose I should lock this thread or at least demote it. Damned web enabled phone. I could have gone all night without seeing this. The truth is that this is one of those times I wish I had an alter ego account so I could post what I reaaly think.

Monpirri, It is at 3227 Hillcroft. The number is (713) 789-2950. They have one variety of Colombian empanadas(so-so) and a wide variety of Argentinian empanadas. They also have various Colombian plates. I like the mashed patacon and a side of chicharron. They also have some good breads, pastries and other sweets. I love Colombian style merengues and they have some good ones. They also have some good juices and the typical Colombian soft drinks. For pan de yucas and other baked goods, I still prefer Pan Rico, but this place is good and more conveniently located.

It was you Raaay, but now you screwed it all up by making me spill the beans. Now they'll have to pick someone else. I vote for Elmo. It really blows that he gets axed right before I decide to wade back into the muck.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on I want to be a Moderator!

You guys actually think this pays? Shit, this is the only thing I do for free. I normally won't so much as send an email without billing for it. Don't ask me why I do this for free. I must be mental.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on I want to be a Moderator!

"you know the rules, MC. no one who asks can be considered......" Hmmmm

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on I want to be a Moderator!

Ha Ha. If you only knew who's been or being considered. Shit. I am still in shock that they asked me. I honestly thought somebody was having a laugh at my expense when they first contacted me about it.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on I want to be a Moderator!

Greg, I don't say this to hassle you, but it would help you to lighten up a bit. You can't take any of the nonsense on this site too seriously. People will talk shit to all of us. If someone steps over the line, let us know and we'll handle it. However, if someone is just ribbing you in good nature or even offering some reasonable and respectful criticism(even if you don't necessarily like it), it is better to take it in stride. Maybe give them a little shit back, but none of this is worth getting stressed over.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on I want to be a Moderator!

I might go batshit one day an auction off my password to highest bidder. Peter would shut them down quickly, but they'd have a helluva time while it lasted :-0

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

Hey man. Rice is apparently some controversial stuff.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on I want to be a Moderator!

Trust me. You don't want to be a mod. It is really quite the pain in the neck. You get people from all sides whining, complaining and generally being a hassle. Luckily, there are those members that make you want to stick around. I have to restrain myself from the deleting the rest of the lot en masse. The absolute worst are the crybabies.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

That's some serious poetic waxing over some rice there Johnny. That must be good stuff. Colombian rice usually doesn't get too much more exciting than throwing some noodles in the mix. Some people will put in some slightly crispy, thin noodles. It add some texture to the rice and is pretty good.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

Hey Monpi, A little OT, but have you had the patacones with chicharron at Marines Empanadas in Houston? Very good stuff. Much better than their so-so empanadas.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

"one cup of rice and two cups of water, oil and salt." Dead on. That's how my mom taught me to make it. You just need a tiny pinch of salt. You need to oil to keep it from getting clumpy. I boil the rice until there is almost no water left. Then you put it on low and cover the pot with a paper towel and put the lid on it. Then you let it cook on low until it is the right consistency. If you leave it just the right amount of time and you have a good pot, you get PEGA! I know the paper towel bit sounds weird, but it does make a difference. Don't ask me why. That's my mom's technique.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

This thread is making me hungry. To make matters worse, my wife is taking an English class for these next two months so I don't get my home cooked lunch every day like I normally do.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

"most Colombians are fat" Really? Where?

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

When it comes to the rice, it is more about the consistency and texture than the flavor. If the rice is too soggy or too dry, it isn't as good. Like I mentioned, most people usually mix the rice with whatever else is on the plate.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

I think it is a valid question about a cultural difference. I don't think the OP meant anything bad by it. BTW Londoner, there is a big difference between good and bad rice.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on This is one the reason that I moved to Colombia

"I explained to my wife that coming to the USA will mean more weight on her." That is often the case, but if she exercises and takes care of herself, she can avoid the weight gain. It helps to let her try and maintain the same diet and eating practices that she has in Colombia. My wife has actually lost a little weight since moving to the US a little over a year ago. She weighed herself yesterday and was at 112 lbs versus about 120 when she moved here.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombians and arroz blanco.

The thing about white rice is that it goes well with lots of different food. It's not like you just sit there and eat the rice by itself. You mix it with the meat, beans, lentils or whatever else you happen to be eating. It soaks up sauce and generally makes the meal complete. I grew up with it all my life and my Colombian wife still makes it practically every day. The best part is the "pega". This is the part of the rice on the edges of the pot that gets toasted. A Colombian family will oftentimes fight over pega. Heck, a pot that makes good pega is a prized possession. I guess the custom derives partially from the fact that rice is cheap and fills you up. I know a lot of people claim that it is not that good for you, but I have tons of very old relatives that have been eating it their entire lives and it didn't seem to do them any harm.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Bull fighting in Colombia?

Costeña. If you keep posting racist comments about those which are supposedly your own people, you won't last here very long.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Bull fighting in Colombia?

"I like to see the Matador get killed every now and then. It is only fair." "It is very difficult to understand bull fights if you were not born and raised in Spain or a Latin country, and your parent took you to them." Amen and Amen!

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on paying for PBH?

Greg, You really need to be careful what you post on the site. It's not really a matter of trust amongst PBH members. Not only are your posts available to anyone that views PBH, but they are indexed and cached on Google and other search engines. If you don't want your comments to be public, don't post them. If there are any past comments that have personal information that you'd like removed, let me know and I will discuss it with the other mods. Please don't start a huge fight with others over something as unimportant as someone poking fun at your name. You are really being oversensitive about that. Now if you see others posting insults or personal attacks that are really over the line, then please flag the comments or contact a mod and we will deal with the comment and the poster.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Beautiful images of Colombia.

Thanks PCL. I am only inquiring as part of my sacred mod duties ;) We might have to put Lisa in the fishbowl until she fesses up as to whose bootie that is.

Very nice images Lisa. So... Who is that in your avatar photo?

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on ECONOMICAL RATES!!!! TO SHIP FROM USA TO COLOMBIA

We send packages several times a month. I won't say that we lowball DIAN every time, but I won't say that we don't. We have never heard a peep out of DIAN. Of course, we don't send electronics. DIAN has a real hard on for electronics. As I said, the packages always arrive in about a week to even small towns and cities in various parts of Colombia. They are definitely send via air from Houston to Bogota. I don't know how they are transported within Colombia.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on And Here I Thought This Only Happened In Colombia! Big Bloody At Fort Hood

I have to agree with Aztec. According to various reports, the FBI had looked into this guy for posting jihadist posts on internet forums. Several of his fellow service members reported that he was zealously against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and had made inflammatory comments to them in support of suicide bombings and the killing of American soldiers. Several witnesses claim that he yelled alahu akbar before he started shooting. The guy had a psychiatric evaluation within the past year and showed no signs of mental illness. Of course, the major media outlets like to tiptoe around the truth when it comes to the real reason behind this terrorist act. However, anyone that isn't blinded by PC bullshit can plainly see that he did this for religious reasons. Bury this piece of shit with a pig carcass. BTW, I am not only anti-islam. I despise all religious superstitious bullshit equally.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on ECONOMICAL RATES!!!! TO SHIP FROM USA TO COLOMBIA

What do you mean "air"? We are shipping from Houston and things get to most Colombian cities in about a week (usually less to Bogota), so I would imagine it isn't going by mule. It is always cheaper to send from Miami because of the increased competition. I would imaging the time You do pay import duties depending on the items you send, but that can usually be lowballed a bit without DIAN(Colombian customs) making trouble.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombian police kill Farc terrorist leader

I have to agree with Romy on this one. Whenever a jailhouse snitch points at Uribe or his cronies, they do everything they can to discredit him. When the stoolie implicates a political enemy(farc or otherwise), the government is quick to back up the accusation. Regardless, I'm sure this farc piece of shit was guilty of plenty. It's a good thing they killed him. If they'd have arrested him, he'd be out of jail in two months. Hell, they might have made him a peace ambassador like old one eye(Karina).

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on How dangerous is PBH becoming?

Hi Brians, I've been busy with other priorities. I still check in from time to time. Good to see you're still around. We've been losing too many good people around here lately.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on How dangerous is PBH becoming?

Don't need to make up nonsense, whatever you are.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on ECONOMICAL RATES!!!! TO SHIP FROM USA TO COLOMBIA

No offense, but those prices are a bit on the high side. We pay $18 for the first 10 pounds and $2.20 per pound above that. We use Box Express in Houston, but all the services in Houston have similar prices. Shippers in Florida charge considerable less.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Colombian police kill Farc terrorist leader

They have attributed just about every farc terrorist attack in the last ten years to this guy, from Gaviria's sister to the El Nogal bombing and everything in between. I don't doubt the farc was involved in most, if not all of those attacks, but I find it hard to believe that this guy was behind them all

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on How dangerous is PBH becoming?

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Company has not paid me.......what can I do??

From duplicate thread tabla says on Sep 29, 2009, 09:18 (today): flag Just thinking aloud here - some ideas I think you need a definite plan You need to collect and create all the evidence you can as to what they owe you. You must be able to prove your rate of pay and the hours you have put in. So part of your plan should be to say to them: what no money again? Well then sign this! (This being a statement of your hours worked and rate of pay and total due with date due and today's date, and the latest promise of when they say they will pay) Clearly if they refuse to sign, you go straight to a lawyer, as they clearly have no intention of paying you. The person signing should have the necessary authority, and it should ideally be on their letterhead. Be sure you know the name of the owners and that you have a contract with the same names. So my idea is first concentrate on getting evidence without falling out with them. I would anyway discuss with a lawyer what evidence you will need. It's not about winning in court, it's about making sure they know you have a strong case. Do they have other teachers? Are they paid? What is the history here? Discuss with other staff. Continue to fulfil your contract and be friendly (but firm) as long as there is a chance it will work out. Your goal is not only to get paid but in future to be paid regularly on time. Otherwise you end your contract with a debt which will be hard to collect. What does your contract say about late payment? Will think some more later...

How about just eating less crap and doing some exercise? As a result of fat fucks all over the world hoping for yet another miracle diet that allows them to lose weight while eating crap and sitting on their asses, the price of Acai in Brazil has shot up 60 times while production has not increased much. That would not seem like a problem, except that various native peoples in Brazil depend on this berry as a staple of their diets. Since these people are dirt poor to begin with, they can't exactly afford the increased prices. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601086&sid=ai8WCgSJrhmY&refer=latin_america Rising U.S. sales of acai, a purple Amazon berry promoted as a “superfood” on Oprah Winfrey’s Web site, are depriving Brazilian jungle dwellers of a protein-rich nutrient they’ve relied on for generations. U.S. consumers are turning a “a typical poor people’s food into something like a delicacy,” said Oscar Nogueira, who specializes in the fruit at Embrapa, Brazil’s agricultural research company. Spending on acai-based products by Americans seeking to lose weight, gain energy or slow aging doubled to $104 million last year, according to SPINS, a Schaumburg, Illinois-based market research firm. Since U.S. demand took off early this decade, the fruit’s wholesale price in Brazil has jumped about 60-fold, Embrapa data show. In 2008, exports from Para, the South American country’s main producing state, climbed 53 percent to account for about a quarter of output, according to the local government. Production, though, has increased little in the past five years.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Neiva and Desierto de Tatacoa

I don't write any travelguide. I just added a hotel listing to the Bogota page and the site's software automatically added that tag to my account. I need to get into the database and turn that off. The last time I stayed in a cheap hostel was back when I was backpacking through Europe at 17. It was fun, but I like I prefer a nicer place with good service. There is nothing wrong with hostels, but they just aren't my taste.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Neiva and Desierto de Tatacoa

I have yet to see an $8 USD hotel in which I'd stay. That isn't to say I like to overspend, but I don't mind spending $80K to $110K COP for a decent place to stay. That is what I spend in Bogota for a nice apartment in a good part of town depending on the size of the apartment. Obviously, outside of Colombia nice places to stay are a lot more expensive. In the US, you are lucky to find someplace decent for $100 USD a night. I take that back. The last time I spent $8 USD to stay somewhere was at a boatel in Amsterdam when I was 17. That was cool back then, but I am a little older and have a few more kroner in my pocket :)

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Neiva and Desierto de Tatacoa

Stocktrader, The Hotel Pacande I mentioned has A/C, is fairly nice and usually costs between $80K to 90K a night. The Plaza is a ripoff. I wouldn't feel safe in a 16k a night joint and I am Colombian with half my family from Neiva and I normally go there several times a year. There are several threads with good info about San Augustin. Do a site search for San Agustin and you should find plenty of info. Always keep in mind that Neiva and particularly the rural parts of El Huila department can be a bit sketchy when it comes to security. There is a lot of street crime in Neiva and there is still a fair amount of farc activity in the small towns and rural areas of El Huila. The trip to San Agustin is generally safe for tourists, but beware of going too far off the beaten path in Huila.

PCL, It's understood that she's a little older, but she looks good for her age. Granted, I know Colombian women that have aged much better, but Sofia is still a piece. Greg, I think that's the point of their roles. I'm sure this will prompt more than one old gringo to head his ass down to the marriage agencies in Barranquilla. Despite Elmo's claims, plenty of Curramberas would be happy to marry some old guy for some visa action.

Guatavita or Chinauta make for nice short trips.

ColombianoGringo (Moderator) (Trustee board) comments on Neiva and Desierto de Tatacoa

Pman, Next time, stay at Hotel Pacande in Neiva and ask for the Corporate Rate(Tarifa Corporativa). You can do a search for Hotel Pacande and find the info I've posted before.

That show looks like it's going to be a wreck. I think Simon will end up pissed about it. At least Sofia is still a total piece of ass. capt_j, Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to try that software to see if it helps with watching the BBC F1 feeds. Using open proxies is a hassle.
