BOGOTA and MEDELLIN Christmas Shopping and Celebrations

Bogota and Medellin start today a full week of Christmas celebrations and extended shopping hours.

BOGOTA:

McDonald's failure in Colombia

In this week's Semana magazine there's an article about McDonald's. Apparently the fast food company has been losing money since it started its operations in Colombia. The article also says that most of the latin american operations are losing money and the headquarters are considering to sell the whole latin american operations to a mexican franchisee.

Chilean Investor buys 25% of EXITO for US $250 Million

There was a recent posting by.... I don't remember, who asked about investing in Exito, the largest colombian retailer. Well, it looks like he/she was onto something, in today's news they announced that a chilean investment group bought 25% of Exito, they paid 250 million dollars, that means the company's market cap is 1 billion dollars.

Airbus chooses Medellin's Airport to test their SuperJumbo

Airbus Industrie has chosen Medellin's Jose Maria Cordova International Airport to test their Super Jumbo A-380 because of the technical specifications and qualified personnel at the airport.

The big bird will land next sunday so if you're in Medellin or nearby go there with your camera.

According to the report, Medellin's airport will be the first one in the Americas to receive the big plane.

VINACURE - A CLUB WORTH VISITING IN MEDELLIN

So, for all of you PBH posters and occasional visitors, here´s my little impression of a place that´s definitely worth a visit if you´re in Medellin.

The place is called Vinacure, it´s a Club located in Caldas (see "how to get there" below). Now, this place is really something I´ve never seen anywhere else in Colombia. How could I describe it? it´s part circus, part disco, part bar, part museum/gallery. You could spend an hour just identifying and looking at all the images, ...

The flower festival in Medellin is perhaps the largest folkloric festival held in Colombia after the Barranquilla Carnival in January.
