Avoid it, there are better options

The good: Salento is a lovely place
The bad: Disorganized, drab, and much better options for less $ nearby

We had planned to stay at the Plantation House in Salento. We had made a reservation there a month back, confirmed a week back, and even stopped in the morning of before we went to the Valle de Corcora to confirm and drop off our bags. After our long hike and ride we returned to the Plantation House to find out that the owner Tim had “messed up” and didn’t have room for us. We can’t quite imagine how this suddenly happened since we had been there in the morning, but the place was dirty and dark, a single story building with few windows, and not welcoming in the least. We were given the clean impression that this happens a lot and that there are a few other places they put people when this happens. I strongly recommend against a stay at the Plantation house. We moved closer to town to the newly opened Hotel Segorbe on Calle 5 (intursalentoltdo at hotmail.com) , which was a beauty of a place, a lovingly restored colonial with rooms on the second floor with private baths, small balcony, and fantastic mountain views. It also included a strange breakfast which I would skip and go to the bakery up the street. They had a nice courtyard to relax in and were very friendly folks, and did I mention this place with views, atmosphere and private bath were cheaper than the dingy shared bath Plantation House rooms?

Lovely hostel in a beautiful location (a bit of a walk from the centre). Room #1 (35k/40k COP for single/double use) has a sensational view over the valley. Occasional singalongs around a campfire in the field. Two border collie's and a couple of cats run around the place. Renovations planned.

BClare - didn`t stay with us. They didn`t confirm the reservation they made in June for September and because they hadn`t confirmed the reservation we hadn`t space for them. I didn`t mess up the reservation - they failed to confirm - I`ve asked BClare for a copy of the email confirmation (and I`m still waiting). They arrived in the morning dropped their bags off and left for Cocora. When I checked I found the original reservation and NO CONFIRMATION. As a favour to them I found them the the hostel Ciudad de Segorbe organised a reservation with them and even carried their bags down there for them.

They never even entered Plantation House except to drop their bags off in the morning in the lounge and collect them in the afternoon as I walked them down to the hostel they stayed in. So how they feel justified to comment on the rooms as dingy and Plantation House as dark I have no idea.

BClare wrote a damning review on PBH about us and followed it up with this comment here.

To me (the owner) their comments are unjustified and need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

It´s better to be silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and prove the fact....
