Colombia > Medellín > Guatape and El Peñol.

Guatape and El Peñol.

Guatape is located approximately 90 minutes outside of Medellin. The main attraction are the beautiful lakes and a funky rock sticking out of the landscape, El Peñol.

Guatape is located approximately 90 minutes outside of Medellin. The area is beautiful and easy to get to. You can take a bus from Medellin.

A reservoir built for a hydroelectric damn has created a beautiful landscape full of hills and lakes. The lake covers thousands of acres and can be explored and enjoyed by renting a boat or taking one of the large party boats available on weekends.

Pablo Escobar once called Guatape his home and built several big Casas on its lakeshores. Escobar's main home is now a bombed out shell that is easily viewed from the lake.

El Peñol is a rock strangely sticking out of the landscape, You can climb all the way up via some funky stairs built into the rock. There's a little restaurant on top, and fantastic views.
