Never stayed there, but have heard it is not very safe. Have family that have a house there and most of the time they stay during the week in Cali. I think there is a nun run orphanage there. If you're into visiting, I hear they are always in need of donations of all kinds. Other then that, I'm not sure. Someone else should be able to give you more details.

Yumbo is the nastiest city I've gone through because of the stench and I'm not making it up... it is stannnnky. It's very industrial, they have lots of factories releasing all kinds of waste all day long. I just dread having to go through it but we always have to when traveling from Tuluá to Cali. Oh, and from what I hear it's not very safe either.

Mrs. Gator's pet project (and mine) for a number of years has been support (pesos and school supplies, etc.) for the Instituto Santa Maria an orphanage in Yumbo. We also try and have at least one big party for the girls each year.

i think everyone is right i'ts not safe....!! we raise our cows on the finca and they are happy and grass fed.....then...... everytime the cows take a vacation to Yumbo...they get killed, packaged, frozen and delivered to the house...!!

Yumbo is ok if you want to buy a dead cow, I often pop over there when I'm running low on cow hoofs.....not safe..not sure about that one. it's regular, if you are just used to the shopping malls and areas then its going to appear unsafe for sure.

Carton de Colombia and Propal; making paper stinks as all of us who have grown up in the vicinity of a paper mill know. Actually, the quality of air in the northern barrios of Cali has improved some. There was a time when nobody wanted to buy in La Flora, Prados del Norte and especially Vipasa because of the proximity to Yumbo and the stink, but something must've happened because the smell is considerbly less.
