Your frustrations and loves

Hey all!

I know it takes time to get used to the new layout and stuff.. but I would LOVE for you to post about your frustrations, and the things you love too (if any). Post them in this thread.

The reason is that in a few weeks, they won't feel so strong anymore, and I want to hear about them so I can try to fix and improve things - that's the whole idea of this new system, that it makes it much easier for me to fix and improve things.

It's also very helpful if you try to explain to me how and why you miss things: like, how were you using that feature and why. That can help me figure out if maybe a slightly different implementation would also work for you.

So always a work in progress - I consider these few weeks the beta period of the new site.

I love the avatars as well and the way the page loads in a flash. Negative: I miss the lists of threads with new answers in black with author and time and date of the post; always up on top. I miss the hummingbird too but the little monkey is cute too; I wonder if people click on the message he has in the link.

Desi

Hi Peter.

After my initial horror at the changes, I must admit the site's growing on me. It's easy to navigate; the avatars are small enough to be functional, without being intrusive; the 'extras' such as being able to see all of a member's posts, the most frequent user list etc. are fun; and, yes, I like the monkey.

On the negative side: The last contributed to thread doesn't get bumped to the top, so debates are likely to wither away before they really get going. Aesthetically, a less functionalist font and softer background colours would be easier on the eye. And you can't edit posts (though I appreciate that that's going to change).

But, like I said, it's certainly growing on me. Thanks for all your hard work.

And, by the way, thanks for making me a 'friend'. How do I return the compliment?

Hi Peter,

I'm already used to the site. It is streamlined and fast, and I actually like it. Thank you. Something I always wanted (and it might be there already but I'm ignorant of it) is a way to have a list of threads to which I have recently posted. Sometimes it's hard for me to remember the threads I have visited. It is the old brain fading...

I agree with Desi when she says: "Negative: I miss the lists of threads with new answers in black with author and time and date of the post; always up on top." That's the single thing I miss from the old site.

Jaramillo - click on your profile and you can see thread titles you started and their dates. You can also see your posts under a different tab but unfortunately there's no reference to the thread they were in, or the date, and you can't click on something and be taken to the thread. I hope Peter fixes this because right now this feature (the listing of posts) doesn't have much utility.

Tinto (Moderator) says on Jun 22, 2007, 06:08:

To clarify my comment above, there are two tabs I'm referring to in the profile section:

1. "posts" but it used to be called threads/topics/original posts

2. "comments" but sometimes called posts

The "posts" feature is useful. I don't think the "comments" feature adds much value it its present state.

Desi and elrey have my vote as well. I really miss "NEW" showing that new threads have been added to a post. It's frustrating not being able to tell if anyone has added anything since I last looked at it.

And I agree with kalder, posts are going to die a quick death because new threads to it don't bump the post up to the top of the list (i.e., doesn't make the post "new"), therefore they get buried among all the wonderful posts to this board. The days of a post getting 200 comments to it will be gone if this feature isn't resurrected. Hopefully Peter will figure out how to turn an old post into a new one when someone adds a comment to the thread since I last read the post.

I still think the monkey is cute. I think it's the curly tail that does the trick. And it's nice seeing PBHers add photos to make themselves more human in this virtual world.

hi, peter. yes, your efforts and creativity are all plus. the ironing out process shouldn't be terribly long, nor painful.

i agree with most of the above, threads should be newest, first. and i still harrang about scrolling through the comments. maybe there could be a simple button to take one to the end of the comments to get straight there. some have repeatedly said they want to re read the comments over and over...duh. me, no, i read the majority but my focus is the thread itself.

thanks for the friend posting.

I have a few complaints really:

1.Not enough Kat1 photos on this site. Makes me sad :(.

2. its hard to see all the different topics with this new format, you have to scroll too much. Makes me sad too :(

If you go look at someone's profile there is no list of forums at the top of the page to click on to go back to where you were. You have to click on 'home' and start over (ok I guess I can use the back arrow on my toolbar, but I think the forums list should be at the top of every page, no?)
