try this on for size..

today the young gringo whippersnapper visa officer in vancouver,...
... denied a tourist visa for la commandante, (a permanent resident of canada for one year,
full-time employed here, living common-law with the oldgringo, all perfectly documented.)
...to travel to hawaii............why?....he's a jealous twerp. + $115....ka-chinga!!!

go figure..???.... ..guess what?? as a canadian resident, she can now go anywhere in the world,
piece of cake,..except usa.......duh..........who needs 'em?

Two thoughts.

First, it seems strange in light of the fact that a US green card holder can travel to Canada without even having to have a visa at all. What's good for the goose ought to be good for the gander.

Second, I wonder if the situation would not have been different if you were married. The Fundamentalist Republic of America is old-fashioned and doesn't regard common-law or conjugal partners the same way that much of the rest of the world does.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

oldbongo says on Oct 20, 2005, 12:58:

uc... you are right,..there should be reciprocity for similar visa holders,... but there isn't,....should be free trade too.

second, apparently, canadian residents forget their spouses, jobs, life in paradise canada, to infiltrate usa to become illegal alien nannies................duh..............

.... the joke is, in two years she becomes citizen here, with passport, and never has to say please to the gringo, just show the passport and go anywhere................shmucks.......

Rubiazo says on Oct 21, 2005, 19:36:

Oldgringo actually it does happen all the time Plenty of people enter the USA via Canada. It sucks, but thats the logic they have behind it.

You can also get denied entry into the USA with a Canadian passport, sorry to burst your bubble on that one. It has happened to me personally twice in my life.

I think it's payback for Canada allowing all the draft dodgers into the country back in the 60's - hahahhaah

I used to think the other way was true I lived in Michigan for 3 or 4 years and used to routinely cross the border for lunch/dinner/bar hopping in Sarnia/Windsor. When I crossed the border into Canada - they will check us out very thoroughly sometimes taking 15 or 20 minutes (I sometimes had Indians with just student visas to USA with me in the car with their Univ. IDs.) On our way back it seemed like the US people just waved us through making me think that one can easily smuggle in illegals from Canada if one wanted to. Of course this was a few years ago - maybe now the border crossings are harder on this side. I for one don't like the idea of any borders (but maybe I am a tree-hugging, flower-sniffing hippy, liberal bastard! Jajajaja)

CaryGrant says on Oct 22, 2005, 10:36:

The whole visa system is crazy. Two people the US recently allowed in from Canada:

1. Guy in Eastern Canada crosses the US border with numerous weapons, including a bloody chainsaw. You can guess why the chainsaw was bloody...

2. Scam artist in Vancouver, bilked people of millions. The RCMP (Canadian equivalvent of the FBI, sort-of) asked the US border guys to hold this man at the border if he showed up, because he would be fleeing the country. Guy arrives at the US border with a pickup truck and trailer full of his worldly possessions, US border service calls the RCMP - then lets him through. RCMP arrives 45 minutes after the call, but he's now safely in the US, where he cannot be extradited for his various crimes.

You know what, the US can keep those two.

BAQ says on Oct 23, 2005, 09:07:

RJSTUFF Yea, the border situation has changed. One reason is the "High tech pot" being grown in Canada and brought back to the States. Other reason, of course is the post 911 deal. Either way, it' not as easy as it used to be.

Then again, there are MILES & MILES of open border not to mention the great lakes, so if you really wanted to get across, it wouldn;t take a rocket scientist to do it.

This is what makes the system so screwed up. The honest folk cross at the border, the illegal activity more times than not occurs AWAY from the "Official border crossing points".

Ahh yes, your U.S. tax dollars hard at work to make you "Feel better".

Just a thought.

But that's exactly what our US tax dollars are all about now-a-days - making stupid US citizens fell better (they're stupid if the money doesn't accomplish the said objective but yet is used to make them fell better) and to win votes.

And, in general (or more exactly put, in majority), this is what the US citizens want... otherwise they'd vote differently and they're not.

Case in example, the temporary $4B tax for TSA and air travel *security* - it's not temporary and it's not security. But it sure makes some people feel better, and it sure is putting on a show.

rjstuff says on Oct 25, 2005, 13:14:

What the heck flaleo My state govt. received about 90 million or more in homeland decurity and it was spent on ??? My department got new ID cards and installed a security gate and new locks on all doors and made it harder for employees to move around within the building - and even harder for the public when they have business in the building - did it make it more secure - NO. Did it make people feel more secure - NO. Did it make the govt. fell better about having secured the homeland (what a bunch of crap that name is!) - YES!
Long live the system of corruption at every level and deception at every level and BS at every level - no I am not talking about South America - but USA.
flaleo - you want rational, efficient, ethical work done by our govt. - JAJAJA.

flaleo says on Oct 25, 2005, 13:53:

No, I want that our citizens would at least themselves want some ration, efficient, and ethical things from their government - whether it be even possible or only a fanatasy... but we don't.

flaleo says on Oct 25, 2005, 13:55:

And with regard to travel... as if checking to see if I have an ID makes it anymore safe. Terrorists have IDs that could get past a metal detector. Oh, and removing my sandals or belt - neither have an ounce of metal or place to put a plastic explosive. But, this is off the topic for the post, sorry for my rant :)

BAQ says on Oct 28, 2005, 16:40:

Remember the "Brady law"? When we banned "More than 10 round magazines"???

Talk about a FEEL GOOD law. Only applied to NEWLY MADE clips, the ones produced before the law took affect (which were in the millions) were still legal.

"HOmeland Security" is no different. Just ask anyone in law enforcement, if they are honest with you, they will tell you it is a joke, after of course, they stop rolling on the floor laughing.

Sad but true, Americans don;t want to belly up to the bar for a dose of what is really needed. They are to consumed with their "Personal Freedom, Privacy and Rights", and that is fine, but then they shouldn;t bitch and complain when we get hit again like 911.

I always like a window seat when I travel but after 911 it was impossible even when I had selected a window seat. Either the ticket agent or stewardness would just about command me to take an aisle seat, usually saying something like, "Oh no, sir, you don't want a window seat, you want an aisle seat. Here let me put you right here." What was up with that? Are they putting all the guys who are over 6'2" and 200 pounds on the aisles?

BAQ says on Oct 28, 2005, 18:56:

Curious Cowboy, that is funny. Now immagine this, since you are a "Big guy" maybe they want you at the isle so if another "Richard Reed" tries to light his shoes, they can say to you "Excuse me sir, would it be an inconvience if we were to ask you to beat the shit out of the passenger sitting in seat 29C? We would be happy to re-seat you in first class".
