In Union Square they erect a giant pine tree about 200 feet tall (I'm not kidding) and decorate it with huge green & gold & purple decorations the size of a basketball. Christmas music plays everywhere. What an incredible city. One Christmas eve I gave a homeless woman who petitioned me five dollars. She looked like a junkie, but hey it was Christmas. juanalejo says on Dec 3, 2005, 14:27: Christmas Well Christmas season has officially started already. All the malls are fully decorated and well lit. There have been 4 firework shows already, that is the lighting of Monserrate, the lighting of Condensa (Electric Power company), and two in Park 93. The big fireworks display will be on the 7th evening when the 15 million bulbs that the city has put up this year will be lit up. The 15 is the night ciclovia, when the city closes the streets from 6 till midnight for the population to come out and enjoy the city lights. Last year over 3 million people walked through that night. On the 16 we start the novenas which will continue through the 24. There will be choirs in most large parks (93, Simon Bolivar, Tunal, Virrey, Usaquen) during the novena, also in many malls. The 17 will be the 24 hour shopping night. After the 24 the city will empty, and the 25 is a hang over day for us, so not much activity going on. From that point, rather head elsewhere if you are looking for people.
