www.happybutpoor.com NOT www.poorbuthappy.com

If you owned a site like www.happybutpoor.com what would you do with it? Not www.poorbuthappy.com. Would you dedicate it to something to do with backpacking or travel? Maybe some kind of marketing site? It's kind of a catchy name and could be used in allot of ways I would think on the internet. Any thoughts or ideas on this name?

how about cheap&opinionated.com?

Just because you have been to Colombia, that does NOT mean that you are anywhere near an expert on the place. Sorry. Truth hurts.

Juanes thanks for your comment. It's a great idea. Maybe I should be more specific about this. I actually bought the domain www.happybutpoor.com because like www.poorbuthappy.com I thought it had a catchy name. I really have not decided which way I should go with the site. I can't see me running it like a forum and in no way is it going to compete with Peter's site or forum. It could be used to promote hostels around the world or as a marketing site where people can get ideas and start online marketing businesses for free. The domain name is generic in a way as there are many topics it could cover.

So I just thought I would ask here initially for some feedback on it before I start doing extensive research on how to market it.

Gringoloid maybe I could look into buying ASKASTUPIDQUESTION.COM LOL.

At any rate your feedback is appreciated

Lostgringo,

Think about how many people would search poorbuthappy everytime they went to search poorbuthappy, sorry I mean happybutpoor? See what I mean?

The poorbuthappy phrase is just too popular over the other transposed name.

In anycase, good luck.

MT you are of course correct. But allot of it is the way you promote the site too. And if they went to the incorrect site they could easily turn around and go back. No? Well maybe not lol. Anyway, it's not costing me allot to look into this and you never know. You can brand anything if you go about it the right way. Thanks for the input. How about happybutpoor backpacks for travelers on a budget? Or a site dedicated to ethics where people are willing to lose money so they can look at themselves in the mirror. Or does the idea have anything to do with money at all? Also a search in Google for poor but happy should bring up happybutpoor if the keywords are entered correctly. Most people just type in www.poorbuyhappy.com rather than google it with the domain name all together. And you would be surprised how many people would actually type in happybutpoor instead of poorbuthappy.

8,740,000 websites promoting those keywords in Google. In Yahoo there is 148,000,000. So there is competion there for a reason. Admittedly, Peter's Poorbuthappy is at the top of the heap. But again a good marketing strategy and branding can do wonders for a product and a website. The key is not to have a higher ranking on Google than poorbuthappy but be on the 1st page. And the more the site is seen WITH poorbuthappy the more it gets known. Especially if it represents something unique.

Anyway, I just thought I would try and brainstorm it here first as this is where I got the idea. I certainly don't mind if the post is deleted.

I was thinking with a happybutpoor... my first thought was those who gambled in the housing market and went for broke and maybe they decided afterwards that they were happier with a smaller house... the whole "bigger is better" need not apply.

Vishere that's a better idea with the name. I just bought it. I like Dan's idea and may do some research on people wanting or needing to downsize

you could open it up as a kind of travelblog stroke travelsite where backpackers or people who have visisted poorer places around the globe like i have could post fotos of the good aspects of life there..........fotos from the people who are living on for a year what we spend a week here in london and how they are happier than the westerners like myself who are going to be facing not so good time for the next few years economically....have a look at www.travelblog.org for some ideas maybe too.

hope this helps

Lostgringo. I found all kinds of stuff about people downsizing... try searches for "tiny house" "micro house" "little house" "Katrina cottage" and "anti-Mcmansion"
There's a few companies that make designs/plans for tiny dwellings. There's also various groups on yahoo. A lot of those places that people are in are 500 sqft or less. have fun on your search.

Dan thanks for that information. I think it would be allot of fun to dedicate a website to this concept. People living on less and being happy. The "American Dream" idea of outdoing your neighbor is falling apart at the seams for many as mortgage prices increase and the value of property decreases. Combine that with unemployement and the cost of living you have a recipe for allot of despair. Maybe allot of testimonies of people who have broke away from this notion and pictures of their current living conditions. I think it would be fun to promote something like this.

SiV you are correct. I used to get mixed up the Beans and Wieners vs Wieners and Beens. It would take some time for people to get used to it. It is possible but would take hard work to do it.
