We're kind of new to this parenting thing and trying to figure out how to best be mobile with our newborn son. I must be a wimp, cuz I can't carry my kid in my arms all day like all the parents seem to do here. Mom's on doctor's orders not to do any lifting. We've got one of those carseat/plastic basket things, but it basically doesn't help the cause all that much. So, we're wondering if anyone in Medellin might have an old stroller (that would work for a newborn) that they'd like to rent or sell to us. We're hoping to make our great escape from the country by the end of this month (Oct), and plus we're both young and in between jobs (poor, but happy, I assure you), so the more economical the better if you know what I mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know one that hangs out around the church in front of parque poblado that would be an excellent choice. perfectstranger says on Oct 3, 2009, 13:16: Just get an "umbrella" stroller for now. When you get back to the states get on craiglist and look for a BOB. I bought mine new. You have to have one. Being poor and having a baby can get rough you need a stroller so you can be mobile and not stuck around the house, especially for the mami, and baby, and papi too. Greg is right you are not going to find the prices and or quality you would in States. Chances of getting a good used one....slim. NO ONE BUYS THEM SO NO ONE HAS THEM TO PASS DOWN. Unless you find someone on PBH...your chances are slim even families from MDE who know a lot of people can't find these kind of baby items to borrow, rent, or buy from other families. Before I left MDE last time I gave a "co-sleeper", crib, highchair, baby bath tub, clothes, baby tent, and toys to my drivers' sister for her children. All of those things came from States to Panama and eventually colombia. Very nice things but sometimes you are better off buying a cheap local option and being the one to pass it down to a family when you leave. If you get an umbrella stoller from carrefour you can bring it on the plane with you when you go. Craiglist has a ton of used strollers and other baby items. When I came back I replaces most of our items from craiglist, paying TEN bucks for a highchair, used, instead of 100 new.
