The wife was taking the daughter to her fathers. I'm sure one of the neighbours tipped off the bandits. When we are home, we don't bother with the bars on the front door. It was kicked in.
I figured one of the neighbours who has a key was here looking for something of my wife's she needed to work but it would be odd that she didn't knock on my window. I instinctively said ,"hola?" and sensed more movement outside my bedroom door. I got up, not sure if I was still dreaming or not and found thr front door broken.
There were some neighbours on the street who awoke to the noise but didn't get the plate on the moto.
The police showed up 20 min later but they couldn't do anything by then.
At first I was wishing I would have been quicker and caught him but then I thought I was just lucky they didn't get anything or shoot me.
This is nothing new here. Not enough people pay the nighttime vigillante to be able to talk about one in the day, when this always happens.
I sure have some great neighbours. One had the door fixxed before the police got there. On the other hand, I'm sure somebody tipped off the bandits that the wife would be out of town today, assuming I was going with her. The AC was on though, who leaves the house with the AC on?

Paisa/Calena/Luver says on Jul 17, 2009, 16:38: Just checking.. you live on the coast? Sorry to hear that.. Home robery/invasion is the most violating thing that can happen to a person.. "PAY ATTENTION! I wonder if that person knows that when we push the FUNNY button, its because we are reading something outrageous, trying to be cynical, derogatory, sarcastic and/or obnoxious!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Chriscan (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jul 17, 2009, 18:59: It didn't bother me too much. I was half asleep and they were gone before reality set in. It happens a lot in my bario but I worry about coming home to an empty house. I think that after seeing how little is in my house, they might not come back. Chriscan (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jul 17, 2009, 19:51: The neighbours just told me that they saw the guy on the moto had a gun. I feel lucky that things went the way they did. For a while today, I was thinking I want a gun but that has passed. Convincing the neighbours to fork out a few more pesos a month for a vigillante is the best thing that could happen. RogueOne says on Jul 17, 2009, 20:08: If this is nothing new and this always happens, then why is this post-worthy? Trying to be blase when you've actually been violated and nearly bought it? And next time it could be worse? That's also probably why you twisted the word "burgalary".

Chriscan (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jul 19, 2009, 07:23: Well, we have the security patrol at night and nothing ever happens at night. Our neighbourhood has about one break in a month during the day. We had a meeting yesterday and it looks like people are willing to pay for daytime patrols now too. When people heard that the bandits had guns there was a lot of fear. Before it was mostly kids. Beam me up Scotty; No intelligent life here. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Chriscan (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jul 19, 2009, 18:09: a gun will not help. Mine was the only case where someone was home. They thought I wasn't. It would just be another thing that could get stolen. I didn't get shot without a gun. They had no interest in hurting me but if I had a gun, my chances of getting shot would be much greater, especially with two of them. I have guns back in Canada but they are for vermin and I don't keep ammo in the house. I've dealt with dangerous people enough to know keeping the situation cool is always best. Stay calm even if you think it's your last moment and they will wonder what trick you have up your sleeve. Beam me up Scotty; No intelligent life here. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Lowell says on Jul 20, 2009, 09:54: All my exterior doors are metal with a strong dead bolts and throw bolts that we use at night. The rear door has 2 bolts. It will take a cutting torch or car to open either doors. The ramp to our front door is at enough an angle that a vehicle couldn't hit it with much speed. It would be easier to cut the bars off our windows than open any of our doors. My door in Panama had bolts that went into the celing, floor and sides. No duplicate keys were possible. Alfred E.
